To ask if you would put child forward for the vaccine trial?

So the Oxford vaccine is now to be tested in children as young as six. Would you put your child up for for children?

Everyone calling others stupid for not wanting it can now volunteer their kids! Because, you know... you're so confident that it's perfectly safe and the right thing to do.

I mean, the fact that OP's third comment to a PP was "ew, why would you do that?" is indicative of the level of intellect we're dealing with here.

FWIW, my DD is 3 and honestly, I'd be worried about her taking part because I am a natural worrier, but if she was of an age and we were asked, I probably would let her once I'd discussed it with DP. She's had no adverse reactions to any of her previous jabs. And, as a PP said, actually participating in a trial would probably mean she'd have the inoculation in the safest conditions possible, with constant monitoring.

I've personally had the first Pfizer jab and thus far have had no side effects, though obviously can't speak for longer-term issues.

l2b2 · 13/02/2021 17:48

Yes absolutely.

BlowDryRat · 13/02/2021 17:51

How did you get the link to work @Angel2702? It just says there could be a typo in the address for me.

TomatoesAreFruit · 13/02/2021 17:51

Not for the trial... I am a big advocate for vaccinations but UlI would rather a vaccine to be fully tested before gunmen to my child.

I dont judge anyone who feels differently in fact I am grateful to parents who have enrolled their children in the trial.

TomatoesAreFruit · 13/02/2021 17:52

Sorry for the typs. Given not gunmen

Starlightstarbright1 · 13/02/2021 17:57

No.. i can consent for myself, i can only consent for something that would be of benefit my child. I can't see how i could consent

Sweettea1 · 13/02/2021 18:06

I will have the vacs when its my turn. No way would I volunteer my dc tho I wouldnt volunteer myself to trail it so why would I volunteer them. But I suppose some1 has todo it so good on them that trust it will be ok and are willing todo it.

Alienchannell21 · 13/02/2021 18:08

No chance

Oneearringlost · 13/02/2021 18:10

Yes, I would.

OverTheRainbow88 · 13/02/2021 18:11

If no one had volunteered we wouldn’t have any jabs now. I’m glad so many people are willing to be brave and think of the greater good.

lunalucie · 13/02/2021 18:13

I'm sure Pfizer will go back to Nigeria and experiment on the children there again before letting anyone else's children have it.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 13/02/2021 18:20

I would. CEV child in the family here so everyone who can get it will. Later once it's fully tested I would also support schools requiring it. No vaccine, home school them.

Namechangeforthewin · 13/02/2021 18:23

I would but would want to ask questions 1st. The chances of a vaccine doing damage is so low. Bearing in mind they only want to test how well it works not that it'll kill our children.

My 12 year old would absolutely be up for this and I wouldn’t discourage him.

Angel2702 · 13/02/2021 18:36

@BlowDryRat

How did you get the link to work *@Angel2702*? It just says there could be a typo in the address for me.
I had to turn off WiFi on my phone and it worked on 4G. Very odd.
Comtesse · 13/02/2021 18:47

14m people have had the vaccine in this country, way more than that worldwide. Are they all keeling over? Just how dodgy do you think it could be? I would not be averse to putting my children in a trial.

Sadsiblingatsea · 13/02/2021 20:22

No way!

pursuedbyablackdog · 13/02/2021 20:26

Yes.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 13/02/2021 21:27

@comtesse the government are logging all the reported side effects, some serious, some not so. You can download it from government website I think

Comtesse · 13/02/2021 21:30

Yes I know. I’ve done work with MHRA in the past. If there were systemic problems that affected a lot of people we would have heard by now, @Tryingtryingandtrying no??

BonnesVacances · 13/02/2021 21:32

I was just looking at this but they're not recruiting for DS's age (16) at our nearest centre. DD is CV and we are waiting with baited breath for her vaccine. The least we could do is contribute towards children being able to have it too by being part of the vaccine testing programme.

Presumably everyone planning on having it themselves were happy for other people to test it for them first?

Tryingtryingandtrying · 13/02/2021 21:35

@comtesse they are still logging it to make sure I guess. Obviously a lot of people who have received it so far are elderly with other health conditions so the reports are relatively high.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 13/02/2021 21:35

Compared to other yellow card vaccine reports I mean

Tryingtryingandtrying · 13/02/2021 21:37

@lunalucie I'm confused by your comment? What do you mean?
