Window open at night and it’s freezing

My DP doesn’t like to be hot at night, fair enough. But it’s -8°c outside and he has the window open, our bedroom is like an igloo. We still have the thin duvet on our bed so he doesn’t get hot, I have a blanket and a hot water bottle but I just don’t sleep well in a freezing bedroom.
So AIBU - it’s healthier to have the window open at night
Or AINBU - it’s winter!

Haven't had chance to read the whole thread. I'm a cold person, dh is a hot person. We have a his and hers duvet. My side is 15 tog, his is 4. All one duvet, so no change of bedding required.

Chunkymenrock · 12/02/2021 07:03

Electric blanket on your side. Heaven, and everyone is happy!

ChasingRainbows19 · 12/02/2021 07:06

Those who have windows in minus temps cos they can’t possibly sleep any other way. What do you do when it’s heatwave weather, no air flow through the windows as it’s so hot? Do you move to a cold country for the summer?

peak2021 · 12/02/2021 07:06

Whilst acknowledging the difference people have in feeling the cold, my first thought was to wonder if he is overweight?

LakieLady · 12/02/2021 07:19

I have one of the trickle vents in the bedroom windows open all year round, otherwise I wake up with a headache. It doesn't seem to make it cold though. I'm a chilly mortal, and haven't even worn pyjamas most nights.

Years ago, I bought a pair of fleece pyjamas for camping. They kept me amazingly warm, even on really cold nights. Maybe you should try and find some of those, OP?

Ivy48 · 12/02/2021 07:28

Why don’t you both just have a double duvet? If he likes to roll up in the covers and you get none, plus no new bedding, I’m sure you have a spare duvet cover? I leave a window open to help with condensation but it’s only slightly open, it’s no good to have all windows shut, especially in winter

Fan therapy and a cold sheet from the freezer 👏😊
Ninkanink · 12/02/2021 07:45

We live in a small town. It’s completely quiet.

Our bedroom is warm by the time we get up.

Ninkanink · 12/02/2021 07:49

When there’s a heatwave the windows/doors are wide open throughout the upstairs to allow the air to move and we use fans. We sleep naked (I sleep naked in winter too, but for the coldest nights, and even then I’ll usually just wear a pyjama top) and use a sheet as a blanket. We don’t sleep particularly well when it’s hot.

ScrapThatThen · 12/02/2021 08:00

Why doesn't your comfort matter?

livefornaps · 12/02/2021 08:11

Send him out to sleep in the shed, it'll be like a four star resort for him!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 12/02/2021 08:13

Gah I used to live with someone like this. Such a pain in the arse. I lost count of the amount of times I'd get in the shower in the middle of the night to try and warm up. So much easier to blast a fan for a few minutes to cool down then it is to try to warm up when it's utterly freezing.

I wish I could 🤣 I really struggle in hot weather. I tend to have fans, cold flannels and count down the days til Autumn
Seriously79 · 12/02/2021 08:25

Window is always on the latch here.

knittingaddict · 12/02/2021 08:30

We have our bedroom window open all year round. It was open last night, heating off and I was still too hot. I can't stand stuffy rooms and hotels with non opening windows and so called climate control are my worst nightmare.

Yabu.

I absolutely would if I could afford it. It gets to this time of year and I start panicking about the coming summer months.
MaryIsA · 12/02/2021 08:35

Electric blanket or over blanket that stays on all night with dual controls.

WhatInFreshHell · 12/02/2021 08:38

One of the best things about leaving my EXH was that I could finally sleep in a freezing cold room again!
As a PP has said, what about a compromise, and close the windows at bedtime but have them open until then? Or alternatively you could wait until he's fallen asleep and then just close them 😂

DoubleHelix79 · 12/02/2021 08:55

We have electric blankets (the kind that goes underneath the sheets) and they're awesome on cold nights (oöd house, leaky windows)

StCharlotte · 12/02/2021 08:56

@x2boys

Yeah I'm with your partner on this I hate being cold and love being cosy but I have both windows open and sleep under the windowConfused
But are you making someone else suffer in the process?
Bibidy · 12/02/2021 09:24

@Whatisthisfuckery

I usually do but the ast couple of nights I’ve had it shut, first time in years.
Same here.

I love the fresh air at night but it's been too cold even for me these last few days. Plus it was making getting up in the morning unbearable.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 12/02/2021 09:25

@crumble82

No compromise, I’ve had to wait until he’s asleep and sneak the window shut! I don’t mind it open most of the year but this is ridiculous. We have thought about 2 different duvets, I’m just really dragging my feet at having to buy them plus new bedding when we already have nice stuff.
You could put them in the one duvet cover.

A good nights sleep is more important than a few quid on bedding. & buy a single or dual control electric blanket. OR a couple of hot water bottles. Wear warm socks and a top.

I'd be really cross if you closed the window when I was asleep as I'd wake up with a banging headache.

It's easy to do things to warm up.

Chemenger · 12/02/2021 09:30

I would like to have the window open but DH won’t have it. I sleep much better in a cold room (as long as I have a warm enough duvet, of course). You need a warmer duvet, some bed socks and a woolly hat. I would suggest two single duvets instead of a double.

StCharlotte · 12/02/2021 09:44

OP is he even a bit sorry for being such a dick?

I would definitely go down the electric blanket route.

LimitIsUp · 12/02/2021 10:14

To fellow 'running hot' people / does anyone have a problem with pillows. I frequently wake up at night because my head and face have got to hot and
I have to flip over the pillow to the cool side
