It's a Parking One

Ok mumsnetters I need some ideas.
I popped out for 10 minutes this morning and come home to a random car on my driveway (outside my house). This is private property and allocated parking for a New Build. The Main Street it's off is permit parking only - this car has a permit.
The only place I can park is blocking it in causing a semi obstruction which I've done.
Police won't help as a civil matter.
Note has been left on the car by me telling them it's private property.
What else can I do?! Immediate neighbours have no idea whose car this is. Angry

@PPAK2

So much drama for a 2 minute inconvenience.
Indeed

It wouldn't have taken him longer than that to park appropriately instead of trespassing on someone's private property.

EarringsandLipstick · 10/02/2021 19:45

@Sparklingbrook

Just because I'm not completely furious at what he did doesn't mean I personally would park on someone's drive or in a disabled space.

If I came back and someone was on my drive I would be a bit shocked too, because it's a bit of a weird thing to do.

He was totally in the wrong and I get that, I just though the resulting long conversation was totally unnecessary and a bit cringey to read.

There are ways to talk to people, and all the 'teach him a lesson' stuff I found a bit Hmm.

Agree 💯 with this.

Just came back to the thread after this morning, see there's been quite a lot of discussion on it

Clearly OP thinks she was totally right to do what she did.

However, while the guy was entirely wrong, and OP is right to point it out, I think the exchange is really nasty & the threat to all his employer, and making him repeat word for word that he what the OP said, is just horrible.

EarringsandLipstick · 10/02/2021 19:45

threat to call* his employer

Hettya · 10/02/2021 19:47

As a key worker, I'm excited to hear that so many MNetters think I can park wherever I like.

Yep. Me too. It will save loads of time knowing I can park where I want.

crowsfeet57 · 10/02/2021 19:55

As someone who regularly has my drive blocked so that we can't get either of our cars off it, I totally applaud your stand OP.

If it was a regular situation, and if OP had actually been blocked in, then I could have understood it more.

Neither was the case.

Man was wrong. OP didn't have to treat him like that; could have made her point without the nastiness.

I haven't seen ONE post say this 🤷🏻‍♀️
Whythesadface · 10/02/2021 20:14

Yeah that bloke really apologised.
The bit where he said I am so sorry I used your drive , I realise it was so very very rude and entitled, sorry I parked on your drive and treated it as a parking space and promise I won't do it again.
That really got me.
The Flowers and the Bottle of wine he then delivered once he had finished work, really show how sorry he was.

Nsky · 10/02/2021 20:15

It’s wrong, if he was a career, park on their drive, he just thought it was ok, it’s not

LizB62A · 10/02/2021 20:22

I'm on your side in this OP

We had someone park in private parking the other day for 2 hours right and he claimed to be "visiting a client" who turned out to be at least a 5 minute walk away in a different, less private, road.
I strongly suspect he parked there so that nobody realised that he and his alleged client were breaking lockdown (I'm 100% convinced he wasn't a carer or funeral director, it wasn't an ambulance either!)

He said he hadn't realised it was private parking, despite parking right under two big signs saying "Private Parking"

There's just an awful lot of inconsiderate and lazy tossers in the world.

EarringsandLipstick · 10/02/2021 20:30

The Flowers and the Bottle of wine he then delivered once he had finished work, really show how sorry he was.

What? He was an entitled CF. For sure. But why does he need to do this?

He did apologise. A lot. OP could have made clear it had better not happen again, without behaving like an arse.

Hettya · 10/02/2021 20:33

Payment for the parking spot he stole.

CrocodilesCry · 10/02/2021 20:39

We used to get this all the time - carers for older lady next door parking right across our drive blocking us in or out but too lazy to park on their client's drive which was always empty.

It was incredibly annoying. They blocked our drive three times a day despite us being really nice and asking them not to and ringing the company asking them to tell their staff to just pull onto the empty bloody drive of the lady they were looking after!

Jijithecat · 10/02/2021 20:47

Team OP here!
Mumsnet was baying for the car owner's blood before the plot twist reveal.
Besides, just because he was wearing a carers uniform and badge doesn't actually mean he was visiting a client at the time. He could have been visiting a friend/ family member who lived nearby pre or post work.

Well this MNer wasn't! (See my post at 8:44).

I think you are wildly generalising.

Nothing wrong with calling him out on it, that's not what she did tho.

EarringsandLipstick · 10/02/2021 20:58

We used to get this all the time

Your situation is totally different tho! It was repeated, blocked you in & you tried to resolve it politely.

This happened once. Still not right but not the same at all. OP seemed to love being frothy about it all the same.

Hettya · 10/02/2021 21:32

Seems there's a few posters that love being all frothy about the op too 😂

Jijithecat · 10/02/2021 21:32

@EarringsandLipstick yep just scanned the first two pages, yours is the first post suggesting the OP moves their car when asked.
In fact, perhaps the OP heeded your advice of 'once they turn up you can surely just get annoyed/react as you wish'.

EarringsandLipstick · 10/02/2021 21:37

@Jijithecat

Sorry I'm not getting the point? Unless I was very unclear (maybe I was!) I was saying this talk of 'being in the bath', 'on a Zoom call' was a bit silly; she should just move the car & let him know she's annoyed.

How is that the same as 'baying for blood' and how is 'being annoyed' the same as 'be arsey & patronising to CF parking man & threaten to call his workplace'? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

RootyT00t · 10/02/2021 21:39

Why are people telling you to be out, in the bath, have a drink etc etc.

Do people really go on like this in real life?

Sparklingbrook · 10/02/2021 21:41

I am loving all the over exaggerating and assumptions on this thread. Grin

Mayne he will park there again tomorrow. Grin Shock

Fiftiesfresh · 10/02/2021 21:42

webuiltthisbuffet spot on.

drinkstoomuchwine · 10/02/2021 21:43

What a horrible thread.

Ontheboardwalk · 10/02/2021 21:50

@GabriellaMontez

He didnt give a shit. You were absolutely right to make your point. I hope it discourages him from bring so rude in future not just on your drive but wherever else he thinks he can get away with it.
