If so, why and who is your favourite character.

@randomer

Stevie, felt like a non event to me.Originally, sassy girl behind the desk with a couple of guys on the go.Never developed, never changed out of her jean and checked shirt look.
She really developed.

You did watch the entire series?

randomer · 11/02/2021 14:21

I did, I enjoyed it. It was a bit of light relief.

drumandthebass · 11/02/2021 14:32

Loved it. I think I'd have to say Moria followed by Alexis. I can't remember the mayor's name but he stated to irritate me greatly towards the end

IndecentFeminist · 11/02/2021 15:00

I would love to give no fucks like Moira

TashaG · 11/02/2021 15:48

Yes we love it!

Love David 💕

We are now watching Superstore on Netflix which is great xx can’t beat a good Netflix binge ❤️

LastDuchessFerrara · 11/02/2021 22:11

I loved David's character at first but as the Patrick story took off, the constant grimacing and gurning started to really annoy me

Yes, it was annoying. I wish he'd married Stevie.

The mayor is playing the foolish idiot. But I get that the Roses have to play along also in this drama.

What power these local fools have ha ha.

A microcosm of our own Parish Councils perhaps lol.

The Roses were pretty foolish when they first arrived and continued to be so at times throughout the 6 seasons.

I've just finished it and I'm genuinely gutted. Where do I go from here???

springydaff · 20/06/2021 01:25

I'm late to the party but I'd have to say my favourite was Johnny. I've just watched the whole thing and Johnny was the only character I didn't find excruciatingly irritating by the end.

But I absolutely LOVED it, from the very first episode I was hooked - hence logging on here to find others taking about it.

I have to agree with randomer that imo Stevie just never took off as a character for me at all. Very flat throughout.

It got a bit too earnest and dogmatic with the Patrick coming out to parents episodes - I nearly gave up there.

Astonishingly brilliant telly. Not perfect but Dan Levy is only a young guy - 27? If this is his writing debut then it's seriously impressive.

It's not for everyone though. Very marmite I'd say.

GiantToadstool · 20/06/2021 04:01

It was incredibly good telly wasn't it?! Was def one of our favourite lockdown viewings.

Bookfour · 20/06/2021 04:43

Moira

Justilou1 · 20/06/2021 04:50

Hated it to begin with, but my DDs insisted upon watching it with me as some bonding thing. It was something I inwardly rolled my eyes at… at first. Soon I was sneaking off to binge-watch episodes by myself and I cried when the series ended. While I am nothing at all like her, Amy DDs love to call me Moira just to stir… (I’m not above calling them David and Alexis, too, which leaves DH & DS utterly bewildered, much to our amusement.)

springydaff · 20/06/2021 14:58

I loved the twist at the end that Twyla is seriously rich!

DeflatedGinDrinker · 20/06/2021 15:06

Absolutely love it. Love them all

Somuddled · 20/06/2021 15:10

David, best character and easily the best actor. Sometimes it is actually embarrassing how much better an actor he is than the rest of them great show.

Moonwhite · 20/06/2021 15:25

It took me about half a season to get into but I ended up really liking it. Alexis was the last main character to stop annoying me, but the part where Moira sings for her made me cry.

I found it did get a bit over-indulgent at times. I'm pretty sure David performs an entire (Madonna?) pop song to Patrick in one scene, at least it felt like it. The fact that it's a father-son production (with his sister playing Twyla) mean that in places it got overly sentimental where unrelated showrunners would have tightened it up, but it also had a lot of heart probably for the same reason. I'll watch it all again one day. Moira is one of my favourite comedy characters of the last decade, so I will have to watch again!

Moonwhite · 20/06/2021 15:29

I did feel that the Mayor and his wife became very two-dimensional though. And Stevie too. They had much more to do in the first season, then it ended up seeming like "Oh Dad/son, we totally forgot, we've got to write in scenes for those people who aren't us!" Developing minor characters was clearly not where their focus was, but I suppose every production has its favourites.

Tina Turner - Simply the Best.

Great scene Grin

Aprilx · 20/06/2021 15:54

I couldn’t stand Moria, she got more ridiculous as the show went on, I couldn’t stand her voice. I cannot remember how far through I got, definitely at least a few series but I couldn’t watch anymore because of Moria. I really enjoyed all the other characters, I think David was the best.

fussychica · 20/06/2021 17:17

I started off really not liking it and it took me several episodes to really enjoy it, now glad I stuck with it. Love David and Stevie. Moira's wardrobe and wigs totally bonkers. Grin

springydaff · 20/06/2021 20:06

I laughed uproarously at the folding in the cheese argument scene

BastardMonkfish · 20/06/2021 20:07

Watched a couple of series and it was ok but I didn't find it as funny as everyone told me they found it. I don't know if I was missing something!

Muddywoof · 20/06/2021 20:50

Watched every episode and hated it! I never understood the attraction, every character was awful, their character growth was poor, however I can appreciate the person playing Moira (always forget her name) she did a very good job, especially as a woman playing a character (Moira) playing another character (bird woman) and keeping it in Moiras style iuswim.

David and Alexis were terrible. Stevie was a bore.

springydaff · 20/06/2021 21:12

I have to agree with all you say, Muddy. I still loved it though.
