If so, why and who is your favourite character.

Turtles45 · 10/02/2021 13:07

Moira, loved it all

chomalungma · 10/02/2021 13:08

I watched five seasons and my impression didn’t improve. It was absolute drivel. Characters completely unendearing and storylines weak at best

So....why watch 5 seasons of something you think is drivel with weak storylines and unendearing characters?

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 10/02/2021 13:08

It took a few episodes for me to like it but I persevered and love it!

minipie · 10/02/2021 13:12

It does! I didn’t like the first episode at all. Stick with it till episode 3 or 4.

HideTanner · 10/02/2021 13:15

I'm intrigued as people seem to really really love it but I've also been told it only gets good in season 3, which does put me off a bit. So I'm putting it on my longlist of things to watch at some point. West Wing is still on that list so I may not get to it any time soon.

ItsJackieWeaverBitch · 10/02/2021 13:18

I love them all for all different reasons but it’s a tie between David and Moira as to who my ultimate favourite is. And David and Patrick are my favourite tv couple ever. I loved Friends back in the day but in hindsight none of them were particularly nice or even likeable people especially near the end whereas there isn’t any character on SC that I actively dislike.

alpenguin · 10/02/2021 13:19

Because @chomalungma everyone kept telling me to stick with it, that it got better... but it didn’t. A a

MrsWooster · 10/02/2021 13:25

I can’t possibly pick one... it makes me do that ‘huff!’ laugh that happens when you’re not expecting to laugh and it catches your breath.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 10/02/2021 13:30

I loved it from the start. Binge watched and I’m slowly working way through it again.

Makes me laugh out loud and cry.

No favourite character. I love them all.

Strokethefurrywall · 10/02/2021 13:35

Hard to choose a favorite, but I do love Moira. When she does the solo at Alexis's graduation, it's adorable.

And David in the Amish field holding a broom because he's pissed off at his family.

It's definitely a gentle comedy, I do LOL far more at Modern Family but Schitts creek has some absolute gems.

The end of season 2 was my favorite episode, when Johnny stands up for Schitts Creek and his friends. Heartwarming stuff!

Mreggsworth · 10/02/2021 13:35

Love it. Love all characters

In terms of who is funniest David or Moira

But I think Alexis has the best character development

TerribleCustomerCervix · 10/02/2021 13:37

Against the grain here, but I really didn’t like Patrick!

He came in as The Straight Man contrasting against all these really wacky, quirky characters and I found it really jarring. Compared to when Ben was introduced to Parks and Recreation, and how his character was developed to show his own “weirdness”, I don’t think Schitts Creek did as good a job with Patrick.

I did like how there was no homophobia about a gay relationship- given it takes place in a small town where the residents are supposed to be a bit sheltered etc, it would have been an easy storyline to use but they didn’t.

Balloondog · 10/02/2021 13:40

I can't pick a favourite between Alexis and Stevie (though 'A little bit Alexis' might just edge her forward). I couldn't stand Moira and Roland though and never came round to either which made it hard going at times.
The subtleties and character development were fantastic and unmatched by any other comedy in my opinion.

Justme10 · 10/02/2021 13:49

I definitely takes a few episodes to get in to it but I just loved it, so happy and feel good Smile

And the conversation between stevie and David about what kind of 'wine' he likes was just so beautiful!

namechangetheworld · 10/02/2021 13:55

I really wanted to like this one, the premise sounded very similar to Arrested Development (rich, spoilt family lose all of their money) which is an amazing show. I actually really enjoyed the first season, David and Moira especially were hilarious. After that it went steadily downhill and I gave up halfway through season 3. I don't watch comedies for character development and relationship drama, I watch them to laugh, and it just wasn't funny after the first few episodes. The amount of praise this show gets baffles me.

Agree with PP that Patrick was the worst. So bland and unlikable. I understand he was supposed to be the straight man but he didn't fit in with the rest of the cast at all.

MustardMitt · 10/02/2021 14:02

It wasn’t laugh out loud funny but I liked it.

I kept waiting for something really horrible to happen though, which it didn’t. So that was nice.

I like a red that used to be a white Grin

And reds. Sometimes a Rose.

Bonnieonthelam · 10/02/2021 14:09

@Stinkywizzleteets

Hated it. I really don’t understand why people liked it so much. I gave it a good few seasons to see if it would improve but it’s awful.
Same. Hated it. Was terribly boring. I stuck it out for 6 episodes. Cant commit to any more.
Northernlass99 · 10/02/2021 14:10

Loved it. We are on the final series. Yes its not laugh out loud I agree, but it is a gentle, heartwarming sort of comedy. Easy to watch and makes you feel good when you feel the world is imploding.

Favourite - David or Moira.

Foldinthecheese · 10/02/2021 14:32

My username probably tells you all you need to know about my feelings. I love David. Love. David. And I love his dynamic with other characters, particularly Stevie. But Alexis is probably my second favourite character. It’s the expressions and idiosyncrasies of them all that does it for me. I’ve been a big fan of Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara for a long time, though, and really recommend checking out some of the other things they’ve done together, especially Best In Show.

Mrsjayy · 10/02/2021 14:58

Finished series 4 this afternoon in flash back Moira had taken her "Christmas Pills" Grin

Mrsjayy · 10/02/2021 15:03

they’ve done together, especially Best In Show.

It's a favourite of mine just makes me laugh.

DavidsSchitt · 10/02/2021 15:30

@Foldinthecheese nice username. It's got nothing on mine though Grin

debbrianna · 10/02/2021 15:40

I think it's one of those tv shows which grow on you. You learn more about the characters as they grow. Everyone in the show developes or achieves something which in the beginning is seen as a characters flaw. Even those who came across perfect, developed.

Rolland was great becuase he sets the tone of the town. Giving you the impression on what kind of hell hole the Roses got themselves in for. With all that jaw dropping little town mentality, they love it and care for one another. Which rubbed off on the Roses.
It was summed up really nicely by Twylar at end. I wish roland made up with his son. That was unfinished in my opinion.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/02/2021 15:45

I want alexis to have a spinoff..

A Little Bit Alexis?
