@PandemicAtTheDisco

We are all different; we have differing tastes. Life would be boring if we were all the same.

Some people are very blasé about bodily functions. They will happily leave the door open when they are on the toilet so that they can converse to friends and family. They won't mind company (that's defecating and stinking out the room) whilst having a bath.

Men use urinals and most are happy to pee standing next to each other. Men seem to have less inhibitions about urinating and defecating in public.

Some people have mobility issues or other health needs and may not mind the lack of privacy - having a more accessible bathroom may be a safety precaution.

Standing at a urinal is a bit different to having a crap in public...

Built by someone with very bad taste and no sense of layout.

@thebabessavedme

I am not very keen on the house, it looks rather cold and stark to me, howver, I would like to defend Ipswich, it has some lovely areas, some beautiful houses, some good schools, its only just over an hour into liverpool st on the train, the surrounding coast and countryside are lovely. Of course there are some social problems, areas of poverty, poor schools and has its share of drug issues etc, show me a town that dosent have any of these problems and then be sniffy!
sorry, I didn't mean to come across as sniffy about Ipswich, but the town centre feels very tired and run down to me. I like the marina though and I agree its got some other nice features like Christchurch Mansion.

Has it stayed with the same owners since 2013... the red suite in the games room stayed behind
picture 1 if not

If it was worth £800k in 2013 the refurb since hasn’t really paid for itself...

Confrontayshunme · 07/02/2021 21:29

It is a bit weird, but it looks like a former B&B with all the ensuites and in-room tubs. Has it just been a family home or was it commercial at some point?

mrwalkensir · 07/02/2021 21:31

doesn't just look cold, but drafty...

thebabessavedme · 07/02/2021 22:56

@EmmaGrundyForPM you are right, the town centre is looking awful, its run down, the amount of empty shops is sad to see and tbh I think the new cornhill has been badly thought through, it could have been so much better, I just feel that lately I have seen a lot of 'Ipswich is just shit' type posts and it seems a shame, its not all bad and there are a lot worse.

AlwaysLatte · 07/02/2021 23:01

I think the toilet does have a bifold door just out of shot.

Chambored · 07/02/2021 23:21

@RainingBatsAndFrogs

The heating bills must be massive.

That huge triple height atrium of the family room, and then the room described as a sitting room (with another dining table) doesn’t look tall enough to stand up in.

And it’s painted blue.

Agree re the dining room pic. The ceiling is either really low or the chairs are unusually big. It looks very strange, like you’d be unable to stand up in it.

And who wants an unenclosed loo in a bedroom. Yuk.

NotFabulousDarling · 07/02/2021 23:37

It's going to be a nightmare for damp/ventilation in that bedroom. That's why we have bath (waitforit) ROOMS. To contain the damp.

SatsumaFan · 08/02/2021 00:08

Ha. I have a bedroom with en-suite with... Wait for it... No door! Shock It's L-shaped so you go around a corner and there's a built in wardrobe between the loo and the bedroom wall. Bed is furthest point away on opposite wall. We never use the loo to poo in, just wees.

No damp or steam issues as there is an extract fan in the en-suite above the shower. Dh and I only ones to use it anyway.

I quite like the idea of a roll top bath in a huge bedroom, but not the practicalities. Agree this house is a bit odd for lots of the reasons already stated.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 08/02/2021 00:14

I think it's a ruddy gorgeous house

Anystarinthesky · 08/02/2021 00:17

I would make the dining room with the low ceiling into a little snug for myself.

Anystarinthesky · 08/02/2021 00:20

May I show you all this property?

I just love it, it is like a mini Stately Home.

Oh I meant U-shaped btw.

SqeakyHindge · 08/02/2021 00:31

photo 9 family room, I like they gone for the is it a window or is it a door feature on wall.

englishroseamongstirishthorns · 08/02/2021 03:33

I would use this as a guest room. My guests would feel as though they were in a high class hotel suite. Lovely.

Henrysmycat · 08/02/2021 05:35

This is what happens when architects are so up themselves that they do not talk to interior architects or designers. Joking. There is simply not a single wall to put a sofa or bed. Arches, weird openings, random doors and windows.
It’s designed by a commercial buildings architect (explains the triple height lobby room) or the owners were so involved that the architect gave up and did what they ask just to shut them up/please them.
As a designer, I’d flip things around. Make the living room with the massive window into the dining room. You can get away with the coldness/doors galore in a dining area and it’s near the kitchen.
Turn the sitting room into a family room where you get to close the door to the mess and it’s cosier. It’s far away from the kitchen but that awkward placement of the kitchen island renders that huge room almost unusable. But would have been nice if you can move the island, to add a small family area in case you have smaller kids and you need to multitask whilst the kids chill/watch tv/etc.
Then, turn the current dining room (next to the entrance) into a bit more “formal” sitting room.
Depending on the amount of kids/needs, you can turn the games room into another bedroom and turn that windowless bedroom back into a cupboard/storage.
Bedroom one is a hot mess as ALL the walls are occupied by windows, doors and wardrobes that the bed has to “float” and make it into an awkward/stressful room. I’d move the wardrobe and use that wall to anchor the bed.
The bedroom 2 is easily rectified with a partition or glass wall and a good extraction fan as it’s windowless.
