Actresses - Feel so cross - ruined by plastic surgery

Thisisnotreallymyname · 06/02/2021 20:03

Feel so sad - been watching TV and why is it that women ( in the main ) feel the need to absolutely ruin their faces with fillers, Botox, face lifts, to the point where they look deformed, or like they are wearing shiny masks.
Felicity Kendal last night on Graham Norton, Fern Britton on Mastermind, Sally Thomsett on Pointless Celeb........
Do they not see what we see when they look in the mirror ?
I’ve nothing against PSurgery, but my God, please know when to stop !

IABU - they look fine
IANBU -they look awful .

NerrSnerr
They really can't win. Just look on threads on here about people choosing to grow their grey hair out, they're full of posters saying how ageing it is, as if looking your age is a bad thing

I don't think that's the case - I think that what I see is lots of posters saying how liberating it is to stop dyeing.

I don't think people get surgery to look young, imv it is often to not look tired, grumpy, rather than looking young. Just looking good for your age.

However, there are very few parts for older women - what movies need them? - not the action ones, not the romances (unless the odd ones about older couples) - so they are trying to look young enough to qualify for parts. Though trout lips - I've no idea why anyone wants them.

I read an article about people having more natural teeth - less of teh blinding blue/white. more just lightening a bit and straightening. I think that that will happen with surgery too - people will try to look real.

Oblomov21 · 07/02/2021 07:26

FK on GN show looked like she had no top lip and couldn't speak properly.

I don't like all the actresses who have had too much work done.

NK in the Undoing was unable to express emotions because her face just won't move. So sad.

ImperfectTents · 07/02/2021 07:36

Apologies if this has already been linked to but 'last fuckable day' sums this up

AuntieMarysCanary · 07/02/2021 07:37

@letsdolunch321

These women need to think how will my hands and turkey neck look having had botox.

Felicity Kendall hands and neck both give her age away.

You can get all of that sorted too- so she's just chosen not to have it done :)
SimonJT · 07/02/2021 07:51

They haven’t had plastic surgery, they have had cosmetic surgery, and no they’re not ruined as the way you look can’t ruin who you are.

Actors who don’t have cosmetic procedures often lose work, but I think very young people in the public eye are more concerning than middle aged people having facelifts etc.

Good cosmetic surgery isn’t obvious in a bad way, I have a small amount of filler to disguise a ‘dent’ in the tip of my nose, I can’t have it permanently fixed until I give up rugby.

rookiemere · 07/02/2021 08:20

I had a school reunion a couple of years ago - 30 years since we'd left senior school, so we were all around 48.

I thought everyone looked fabulous except for one lady who had been gorgeous looking at school whose face had a strange puffy consistency. Turns out she owned a business giving fillers and other injectables. She would have looked much better without it.

I doubt that you could have anything done and it not be at all noticeable.

AuntieMarysCanary · 07/02/2021 08:22

Someone like Joanna Lumley has IMO had tweaks - she's the same age as Felicity K. Yes, she still has wrinkles and a 'neck' but she looks fabulous, darling.

And as she is smoker, there is no way her skin would be like it is without a bit of help.

FK may or may not have had work done- I think what has happened is- and she says this- that she has botox for years but hasn't now. What we are seeing is the real her without botox and maybe that comes as a shock.

If you look at old pics of her, she doesn't have good bone structure, her face has always been 'bottom heavy' and even as a young woman she had a very thin top lip.

This is what gives fillers a bad name.

You would never know if someone had 'good' fillers because they just look good!

Have a look here at the before and after pics- none of them look overdone. This is the page for fillers, there are other images for lips etc.

Great improvements on the link but how often would you need it done I wonder?

5128gap · 07/02/2021 08:34

What makes me cross OP is the sheer spite of a number of posters on an allegedly pro women forum as they drag other women down.
Gleefully tutting and judging about what other women choose to do to their own faces, delighted to see formerly beautiful older women 'ruined', and cloaking it all in a thin veil of faux concern.
Not to mention the sheer arrogance of those who from their lofty heights of 'awareness' assume they have some special understanding of asthetics and societal pressure that these unfortunate other women don't have.
I get the argument that women in the public eye expect to be discussed. Their looks are part of their brand, so its inevitable they will be targets for this sort of thing.
I also get that there are important issues around societal pressure on women regarding their appearance that can be usefully discussed.
What 'saddens' me are those people who are clearly delighted at the opportunity for cruelty to other women.
Poring over photographs in which they consider older women asthetically less pleasing, scrutinising the appearance of younger women they see out and about; and passing off as feminism comments you would expect to find in the Daily Mail.

Sometimesonly · 07/02/2021 08:35

@imperfecttents Brilliant! Grin

I imagine if you are surrounded by people who all do it, it begins to look normal to you anyway. I remember a (lovely) new mum at school who had really noticeably plumped lips- she said that in her old circle of friends loads of women did it. But here it really stood out.

www.express.co.uk/celebrity-news/1394020/Felicity-Kendal-age-surgery-Graham-Norton-Show-youthful-the-good-life-pictures-news-latest/amp

But then it doesn't help with the media say how youthful and amazing she looks

Chicchicchicchiclana · 07/02/2021 08:44

That is not the Express saying how youthful she looks despite the caption. That is the tabloid equivalent of being bitchy and inviting their readers to gasp at how awful the results of her procedures are. That "journalist" doesn't think the surgery has done her any favours anymore than anyone on this thread does. If they did they would have chosen a more flattering shot.

bluebluezoo · 07/02/2021 08:44

There’s only 3 pics? Out of all their clients only 3 are good enough to publish? Plus they do the old juiceplus weightloss thing- different hair, different lighting etc...

Even if the results are imperceptible on a still photo, the game is up when you talk, smile or move. This is why I think many people have a skewed idea of how good they look, they see themselves in the mirror, but they don’t see themselves in conversation.

I had an aunt who died at 98. She always looked fabulous- never wore makeup, always in jeans, still beautiful.

Frenchdressing · 07/02/2021 08:45

Some of this plastic surgery/fillers etc is horrible. How can we not notice?! I don’t think people are gleeful but it’s such a ‘thing’ people are bound to notice and discuss.

Absolutely this - i cannot stand it when the tabloids do those bitchy sarcastic articles.

They always do them for Ladies Days at the races, choose the most unflattering photos of women they can find and caption them with "belles of the ball" etc. I think they're awful.

rookiemere · 07/02/2021 08:55

Agree @Frenchdressing it's like the elephant in the room to ignore it. I think it's more of a scandal that women mostly and some men are encouraged to get procedures done.
As for those pictures @bluebluezoo the ladies looked "better" because a more flattering picture with better lighting was used, frankly I don't think whatever they injected in their cheeks made much of an improvement. Also what's wrong with looking the age you are ?

Exhausteddog · 07/02/2021 08:56

It's interesting how fillers and injections /bee sting lips have become so main stream.

20 ish years ago when Lesley Ash had lip fillers it was a massive deal (and she a judged harshly for it) Now so many 20 or 30 something celebs or influencers seem to have that kind of treatment.

Part of me feels sad that young women feel so insecure or dissatisfied with their look they feel they need to do that....or is it because it's become more popular that it's not even seen as a big deal, just one up from wearing make up...? I remember a woman on the apprentice opening a botox clinic and I think she was aiming at people in their 20s.

But if you start tweaking your looks in your 20s, how many procedures would you end up having...? I think Katie Price ,is early 40s and I'm pretty sure shes had more than one face lift but criticised other people for doing it

SuperbGorgonzola · 07/02/2021 09:00

It was Stockard Channing for me when i realised she had had a lot of surgery. I thought she looked absolutely fantastic in the West Wing where she will have been in her 50s and 60s, and playing her age too.

lljkk · 07/02/2021 09:11

On balance, I vastly prefer

wrinkles
"gaunt"
"jowls"
white hair

etc. to how most of these work-done aged women look : stretched face, narrowed eyes, mount & smile distorted, puffed lips, wrong hair color. Cosmetic surgery on them since their youth is like seeing what happened to the dog breeds in last 150 yrs. Nothing improved by the 'work' done.

AuntieMarysCanary · 07/02/2021 09:13

There is a load of hypocrisy on this thread.

How many of you posting that women shouldn't have a light touch of fillers, Botox or more, (if it's well done not overdone) dye your hair, have your teeth whitened, pay £30 a month for gel nails, fannies and legs waxed, and are forever on a diet?

Are you doing it for men and 'society'?

No

You are doing it because you want to look good for YOU. And if you ARE doing to for men (especially the pubic waxing), then stop being judgemental of other women.

Judging other women who choose to have some kind of cosmetic fillers or Botox is horrible and you are being illogical.

Everyone agrees that cosmetic work done badly is a no-no, but that's their fault for choosing to over-do it, or choosing a bad practitioner.

Well said.

I also wonder if those people are brave enough to post a photo on here so we can all rip it to shreds and criticise the way theyve styled their hair, or the fact theyve missed plucking a chin hair or their thin brows or thin lips etc.
Funnily enough- I suspect they wouldnt be ok with that.

Sometimesonly · 07/02/2021 09:22

Judging other women who choose to have some kind of cosmetic fillers or Botox is horrible and you are being illogical.
If you are an actor who needs to use their face to act, it is obviously going to be a problem if you can't use your face muscles. Grin That said if someone offered me millions of dollars if I had a few tweaks I would probably agree. Sucks though.

lljkk · 07/02/2021 09:24

@AuntieMarysCanary

I don't and never want to do any of those things.

I fully agree with you that most women think I look very ugly for not making those kinds of efforts. I don't care. Heck, one of my teen DSs despairs of me not dying grey out of my hair & says I look 20 years older for it. He can get over that.

I reckon my grey hair makes me look distinguished on a good day & otherwise I don't care. I see lots of older women every day who didn't have 'work' done. They look fine. The whole vanity thing backfires. Or maybe it would just backfire on me.

Still, if cosmetic surgery etc is an industry that exists to try to make people look better -- it's fair enough to point out when that industry failed & the person doesn't look good at all. I think these Slebs have been badly advised rather than they have moral failings.

profilechange · 07/02/2021 09:31

@icecreamgirl94 I also have big lips and was teased at school. Still hate them but am always being complemented on them. Why anyone would want fillers in their lips is just beyond me 🤷🏻‍♀️
