Needing someone to come to the house at 7.30AM, look after a 7 year old and walk 7 year old to school for 8.45AM.
£5 too low, £10 too high?

£10 is too low.

buzzandwoodyallday · 06/02/2021 17:54

That's over an hours work. At least £10 worth, if not more tbh. Depends who is doing it. An adult? Then more like £12 or £15. A teen? £10

Findahouse21 · 06/02/2021 17:54

I'd say 12.50 based on you wanting someone responsible enough to look after you child for 1.25 hours.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 06/02/2021 17:55

£5 is far too low and below MW.
I'd want £20 per day. Inconvenient hours.

Looneytune253 · 06/02/2021 17:55

I'm a childminder and charge £5 for that but wouldn't be worth it for one child. Maybe £15?

Reinventinganna · 06/02/2021 17:56

£10 too low. I would think £15 minimum.

Pretenditsaplan · 06/02/2021 17:57

Id say 15-20 depending on the childs normal behaviour going to school.

SuperHighway · 06/02/2021 17:59

One hour and 15 minutes. Obviously £5 and £10 are too low. It should be £11 minimum to meet National minimum wage.

OrigamiOwl · 06/02/2021 17:59

Also need to factor in how far away the school is?

Cocomarine · 06/02/2021 17:59

How long to get back to your house from school? I think you should pay that too. So sounds like at least 1.5 hours. In which case - minimum wage x1.5.

Anything less for an individual with is too low. (different if you’re paying for a childminder shared session)

HadEnoughOfGoingForWalks · 06/02/2021 18:00

£20

KatyClaire · 06/02/2021 18:00

£10 is less than minimum wage, so both too low. You would need to pay at least £10.90 for NMW but more really if you want someone with any kind of qualification.

The hours aren’t especially convenient so you may need to pay more to tempt someone, especially as it’s for such a short amount of time per day.

You might be better off if you could find a parent to have a reciprocal arrangement with - is that an option? Alternatively if you know anyone with a trustworthy teenager who would be willing and able to do it before school you could pay less on the basis that NMW for teens is £4.55 per hour.

suspiria777 · 06/02/2021 18:01

I pay my dog walker £15 for an hour. You're really looking for closer to 1h30 of work (including the time to get back from the school) so you should be prepared to pay a minimum of £20 per time.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 06/02/2021 18:02

At least minimum wage, plus a premium for the fact that it's a crappy tiny amount of hours, plus it's a part hour so round up to at least the nearest 30 mins. Min £15 per day assuming child is easy/well behaved.

Cpl654321 · 06/02/2021 18:02

Hmm I'd say £15 for that. Don't know where you live maybe stuff is cheaper there generally. But for that hour and responsibility you're def looking at £10

SequinsAndGlitter · 06/02/2021 18:02

Person doing it is an adult, qualified ,with full dbs. Would not need to return to the house as child is at school.
School is 20 minutes walk away.

Cpl654321 · 06/02/2021 18:02

More than £10 ^

LaceyBetty · 06/02/2021 18:03

Probably £15.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 06/02/2021 18:03

£5 would be illegal!

I would be asking for £15.

strawberriesontheNeva · 06/02/2021 18:03

£20 ph but maybe more depending on how far the person has to travel to get to you, how far away the school is from you and also the persons journey back home again.

FelicityPike · 06/02/2021 18:03

At least £15.

Dutchesss · 06/02/2021 18:03

No less than £15. It's inconvenient timing and over 1 hour. I'm guessing the child would probably need help getting ready / breakfast as well in that time so it's not like an evening of babysitting watching the TV.

Pinkblueberry · 06/02/2021 18:04

10 definitely isn’t enough.

dreamsarefree · 06/02/2021 18:04

Minimum £15 if not £20. More importantly though what are they prepared to accept?

Moo678 · 06/02/2021 18:04

Both too low. I was more in the £20 ball park because it doesn’t really seem worth a person’s while otherwise. Could you find a local childminder? Or our nursery does breakfast club and school drop off.
