Needing someone to come to the house at 7.30AM, look after a 7 year old and walk 7 year old to school for 8.45AM.
£5 too low, £10 too high?

Is this what someone is wanting to pay you OP?

lunar1 · 06/02/2021 18:25

Why would you think £5 is ok! I got that babysitting for an hour when I was 13.

I would say £20.

Spied · 06/02/2021 18:25

£20 a day if it was one or two days a week.
£15 a day if it was for the five days.

Perfect28 · 06/02/2021 18:25

This is making me laugh. I mean I agree, but most don't pay minimum wage per hour for a nursery or childminder.

triceratops12 · 06/02/2021 18:25

£20 to make it worth anyone's while

luxxlisbon · 06/02/2021 18:25

I can't believe £5 is even listed as an option!

Ickiness · 06/02/2021 18:25

At least £15 to make it worth their time to turn up for more than an hour and then take the child to school
Any less and it’s not worth their time tbh

VettiyaIruken · 06/02/2021 18:26

Living wage at the least.

A fiver for an hour and a quarter is below min wage and just plain wrong.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 06/02/2021 18:26

£20

Skyliner001 · 06/02/2021 18:27

£15/20

Rainbows2021 · 06/02/2021 18:28

if its a one off I would say £15
regular with the inconvenient hours £20 per day.

LazyDaisy22 · 06/02/2021 18:28

At least £15, maybe £20.

ChronicallyCurious · 06/02/2021 18:30

At LEAST £10. Probably 12-5 depending on area. £5 is below NMW

Noideaatall · 06/02/2021 18:30

I hired someone to do this five days a week, and they started out at £60 a week, which rose to £75 over time. It was 5 years ago however, and we're in London.

LApprentiSorcier · 06/02/2021 18:30

My husband has recently lost his job due to Covid and has a current DBS check - he would do it for £75 a week. Let me know if you want to hire him Grin Grin Grin

MarleyTheDog · 06/02/2021 18:32

£12- £15 if it’s a friend. £20-£25 if it’s a child care professional with DBS.

1Morewineplease · 06/02/2021 18:32

How long do you need this person's services for? You need to pay at least NMW for each hour.

Tal45 · 06/02/2021 18:34

Really it depends on what someone is prepared to do it for. I'd say £60 a week but in this climate you might find someone prepared to do it for less.

Daisysflowers · 06/02/2021 18:35

Definitely more near £20. Wouldn’t expect anyone to do it for under £15. It’s not great hours and then a walk as well. Also does the adult then need to walk back to get their car or will they have to travel on transports/long walk to get to you in the morning? Is the adult happy about the 20 minute walk?

Dogsarehairy · 06/02/2021 18:36

You also need to run a payroll for them you are employing them
If they are self employed then they would set their own rate.

1Morewineplease · 06/02/2021 18:36

Sorry, just realised what hours you need.
Probably £20.

poblwcymru · 06/02/2021 18:36

£15 - if school is 20 minute walk they will be working 7.30am-9.05am. 1.5 hours @ £10 per hour.

AbsitivelyPosolutely · 06/02/2021 18:37

£5 🤣

huggzy · 06/02/2021 18:38

I think you need to allow for their time to walk back to to your house, that rounds up to 2 hours, 2 hours at minimum wage (assuming they're over 25 or whatever the cut off is now) comes to just under £17.50.

huggzy · 06/02/2021 18:39

Sorry I somehow read that school starts at 9am!

I still think at least £15 as a bare minimum.
