Needing someone to come to the house at 7.30AM, look after a 7 year old and walk 7 year old to school for 8.45AM.
£5 too low, £10 too high?

OP posts:
ColdCottage · 07/02/2021 19:26

The OP is going to be the one providing the childcare.

Yossahughes · 07/02/2021 19:28

£20 as you have to get yourself there and then home again so it’s probably 2 hours of your time. £10 and hour is reasonable. Not many people would be hassled with going somewhere for a 2 hour job so you are already being more reasonable than most - all the babysitters I used in the past used to have a 3 hour minimum rate to make it worth their while....

CarryOnPlainHunting · 07/02/2021 19:44

£20

It’s going to take up 2 hours of time, realistically, and it’s an early start.

Rachel709 · 07/02/2021 20:10

I would say at least ten pounds but probably 12 would be more reasonable.

cordeliae · 07/02/2021 20:19

Awkward hours, awkward age. £20

Jaded1 · 07/02/2021 20:19

The rate should go way up if you’re asking someone to do two hours work, and then you need to factor in their travel time.
I’d say absolute minimum is £15 per hour. As for different rates for different age groups? It’s insulting. If it’s someone you’re entrusting responsibility for your 7 year old, you should trust that they can be responsible and pay them accordingly.

NoKnit · 07/02/2021 20:35

At an absolute minimum £15 and let her walk to school by herself

Kettledodger · 07/02/2021 20:42

Again I will say RTFT people or at least read the Op's posts! She is not asking anyone to do this for her she is the one being asked to do it!

TinyCake · 07/02/2021 20:48

Do you have to walk?
Are you heading that way at that time anyway?
Breakfast club is completely different as they have lots of children to look after not one.
£100 a week sounds like a lot but unless they've offered a favour to you in return then I think £20 a day is fair. They want someone to be responsible for getting their child to school safely and dealing with the situation if something happens on the way.

Itsokthanks · 07/02/2021 20:52

Minimum £15 but I'd want £20 to do it.

readyornot22 · 07/02/2021 22:17

Five pounds, are you having a laugh..? To travel to your house at an early hour, look after your child and walk her to school.. I’d say £20. I was a childminder and would’ve charged £10 for that - but that’s having the children bought to you AND being able to have more children!

HadEnoughOfGoingForWalks · 07/02/2021 22:20

If you haven’t got time to read the thread then at least read the OP’s posts.

CakeRequired · 07/02/2021 22:22

If the person wanting you to do it can get cheaper, send them to the cheaper place. Dunno why they are arguing, they know someone cheaper, sod off then. Are they usually this stupid?

You should be charging £15+ for that, otherwise its not worth it. Nurseries/breakfast clubs charge less because they have more kids.

Notcontent · 07/02/2021 22:28

@SequinsAndGlitter

It's actually for me. I've been asked to do it temporarily. I'm unsure what to say as a lot of people are saying 'Breakfast club and childminders only cost £5-6 so that's what you should be charging.'

I was going to suggest more like what most of you have suggested but keep hearing different things. I would like to do it as would like to support the mum but don't want to take advantage of her. I have told her my expectations of pay just now in an email but if she is looking at someone to do it for £5-6 then obviously that is not do-able. Especially with the early start and unsociable hours.

You can’t compare this to breakfast club or even a childminder, as they are being paid by multiple sets of parents! So a childminder might be charging £6 per child, but she is only charging that much because she would actually be looking after 3 or 4 children at the same time...
Aerielview · 07/02/2021 22:29

I'd say at least £15

lyingonthesofa · 07/02/2021 22:47

Uuhu

lyingonthesofa · 07/02/2021 22:47

Ok I

whattodo2019 · 07/02/2021 22:51

£20
You might be better off using a breakfast club at school or a childminder. I'm sure they would work out cheaper

Norwayreally · 07/02/2021 23:04

If the parent concerned is balking at the fact breakfast club is only £5, they should put them in breakfast club. You’d be providing over an hour of childcare plus a 20 minute walk (40 minutes really because you’ll have to walk back home). They should pay £20.

DENGREEN · 08/02/2021 01:14

£10 is about right. If it’s every day it will be £50 a week (cash in hand I assume?). Definitely not less.

DENGREEN · 08/02/2021 01:17

To those who point out that person has to get to and from home: nobody (or very few people) gets paid for travelling to and from work.

NoseinBook3 · 08/02/2021 01:20

@SequinsAndGlitter

Person doing it is an adult, qualified ,with full dbs. Would not need to return to the house as child is at school. School is 20 minutes walk away.
Then surely they have a standard charge which you can either pay or arrange something else?
NoseinBook3 · 08/02/2021 01:21

Oh sorry just seen that it’s you. Charge whatever you are comfortable with. If they won’t pay it then it isn’t worth your time

Mally2020 · 08/02/2021 01:29

odd you're trusting them with your child yet you're being cheap with it.Plus based on the time frame you want on absolute minimum frame you're still under minimum wage which would be slave labour.

Mally2020 · 08/02/2021 01:30

likewise just seen it's you. No don't bother doing it
