To think not everyone washes their hands after every single wee when in their own home?

Anything other than a wee, yes of course.

But washing hands after every bloody wee is overkill in my opinion

I don’t think I want to after reading this thread ! I thought it was only the odd unhygienic person that didn’t wash hands not this many 🤢

But why? This isn't people saying they don't wash their hands before preparing food, after having a poo, after using public conveniences or before eating. This is simply some saying they don't always wash their hands after every single wee and quick dab with loo roll and going to sit back down on the sofa or whatever. While I wash my hands after the toilet myself, I don't think it's a big deal if people don't always in that particular situation as long as they are doing so in the examples above. We come in contact with a hell of a lot more germs day to day for that to be any sort of problem

StanfordPines · 06/02/2021 17:30

Why is poo and wee treated differently? Everyone is saying that they always wash after a poo but not after a wee. But why the difference. I manage to avoid getting shit on my hands just as much as I do piss, so if you don’t bother for wee then why bother for poo. And no, urine is not sterile so that isn’t an argument.

Ginfordinner · 06/02/2021 17:35

Good point @StanfordPines.

When I was at primary school we used to have monitors in the toilets to make sure that everyone washed their hands after using the loo. Washing hands was drummed and drummed into us, and now it is just as automatic as putting a seatbelt on in the car.

Because poo carries more diseases and bacteria, especially in meat eaters (which is why we tend towards eating animals that are herbivores too). A solid lump of poo will contain much more active bacteria than wee.
Cornettoninja · 06/02/2021 17:45

To correct myself; we tend to eat animals that don’t eat other mammals, certainly in this country anyway.

Oh and poo has more parasites.

crazylikechocolate · 06/02/2021 17:46

Yes basic hygiene
After using the loo
Before touching food / dishes/ cutlery etc
Before eating
When I come in from outside
After handling mail etc
Plus random times in between when necessary/ needed
Unless it's a proper hand wash why bother ? Dipping fingers under the tap is pointless

Well apart from the obvious much more numerous and more potentially serious bacteria it carries. The clean oneself after a poo takes more pressure and closer contact. A quick dab after a wee with scrunched sheets of loo roll will see the wee going nowhere near your hand whereas the paper gets pressed in to your bottom to clean the poo. Hope that's descriptive enough for you 😆

redsquirrelfan · 06/02/2021 17:51

@ToffeePennie

That is disgusting. It is imperative that everyone washes their hands EVERY SINGLE TIME they go to the toilet. It’s utterly grim not too. 🤮
Why? I don't wee on my hands and it's my loo, not a public one, and my germs.

I wash my hands after a number two and before preparing food and before going out to the shop and when I get back from the shop.

I have a coffee-induced nervous bladder and can go the loo several times in the space of a few minutes if I have had too much coffee. I'm not washing my hands every time, it would be crazy.

Those of you who suffer with dry hands, I can recommend Waitrose lime and basil soap or handwash, and Arran Aromatics bars of soap. I don't get dry hands although I clearly don't wash my hands remotely often enough according to some people on here.

As for the question about washing after a poo and not a wee - I dab myself when I wee, I don't "wipe", I would get very itchy if I did. But I wipe myself very thoroughly otherwise.

StanfordPines · 06/02/2021 17:53

It seems a lot of effort to make so many excuses. Why not just wash your damn hands.

And I don’t get poo on my hands, so why bother? If I am considered fastidious and ocd for washing my hands after every wee then why bother at all?

And yes poo has more bacteria in it. Which if you have on your hands you transfer to the flush which is then touched by all the ‘it’s just a wee’ non washers. Just wash your hands. It’s not hard.

greeksalad · 06/02/2021 17:57

Reading this thread is making me want to wash my hands.

I had hoped that one positive thing to come out of this pandemic would be a greater sense of hygiene all round.

It used to make me feel disgusted pre pandemic when you'd see a woman come out of the toilet cubicle in the supermarket loos and not wash her hands! Then they go and touch all the food!

Please OP, grow up and wash your hands!

shinynewapple2021 · 06/02/2021 18:02

Do you live alone OP?

I can see why you might do this if there is only you using your bathroom but if you are sharing it with a partner and kids then that's horrible .

midnightstar66 · 06/02/2021 18:05

It used to make me feel disgusted pre pandemic when you'd see a woman come out of the toilet cubicle in the supermarket loos and not wash her hands! Then they go and touch all the food!

But OP does wash her hands after using supermarket loos, she does wash her hands before leaving the house and returning home and before preparing food. Compare the level of potential germs where we have a dog who is allowed on the furniture after walking the city streets and parks and playing at the stables, I bet hers is cleaner under a microscope despite me washing my hands after having a wee

Flyingf1edgelings · 06/02/2021 18:20

Can’t believe how many people have such little personal hygiene 😬 I make my young kids clean their hands too. Just because a toilet looks clean doesn’t mean it it there is so much bacteria you can’t see and passing it to door handles your face, mouth 🤮 plus saying you use toilet roll not your hand, tony molecules of pee bacteria get on your hand 🥴 turns me seeing women in public loos walking fixing hair after using lol and walking straight out 🤮

Violinist64 · 06/02/2021 18:20

How could you not wash your hands EVERY SINGLE TIME you use the toilet? I know not all men do (and I have always thought that was disgusting tbh) but I thought women were cleaner. Seems l was wrong. If l ever meet some of you ILR, please remind me not to shake hands with you.

I find that an awful lot of women think they are sterile dirt and germ free zones or that they don't do things in a dirty way. The same women think men's bodies are teeming with filth and germs.

I have known women who won't shower for a week, who make their husbands shower every night because it would be gross not to. This is true even when the man's daily existence is identical to the woman's, as in both office workers.

Often seems like some weird personal hygiene superiority complex.

Just an observation from a lifetime of listening and reading.

I wash my hands if I pee, always. I freely admit a little piss gets on my hands while wiping, I don't see how it cannot, but then again I don't use enough toilet tissue to deforest North America every time I have a piss.

Stonerosie67 · 06/02/2021 18:27

Basic hygiene! Can't believe how many of you don't, I think that's just minging!

Greencabin · 06/02/2021 18:33

I wash my hands after every wee, no exceptions!

StanfordPines · 06/02/2021 18:35

Well it was like the poster earlier who said that women don’t need to wash as they don’t touch themselves but men do because they touch their penises. If this man has a shower in the morning how is his penis any dirtier than any other part of his body?

OohKittens · 06/02/2021 18:39

I wash my hands every time, I'm glad I have no friends or family after reading the amount of people who don't! I would be hanging around outside the bathroom listening for the tap Blush

Cornettoninja · 06/02/2021 18:39

Because it’s been kept under clothes in a particularly sweaty part of the body. Bit like feet. Plus men of a certain age (not even that old tbf) have a tendency to ‘dribble’ no matter how careful they are to shake afterwards.

helpfulperson · 06/02/2021 19:00

I know I should but cant hand on heart say that I do. Especially not at 3am.

Dentistlakes · 06/02/2021 19:01

Judging by the number of people I see in public toilets who don’t bother I think it must be quite common not to. If you factor in the people who just do it in public toilets because they don’t want to be seen not doing it, I reckon at least 50% of people probably don’t at home.

Dentistlakes · 06/02/2021 19:02

Makes it even more important to wash hands before eating and preparing food. Even if you do wash your hands, many people who don’t will be touching the same surfaces.

FlyingFaster · 06/02/2021 19:53

@60sbird

Always wash my hands after every wee, even if I go in the middle of the night I give them a quick rinse under the tap, what difference does it make where you are, hygiene is hygiene
Quick rinse under the tap does fuck all.
