To think not everyone washes their hands after every single wee when in their own home?

Anything other than a wee, yes of course.

But washing hands after every bloody wee is overkill in my opinion

I think bleaching everything to within an inch of its life actually RUINS your immune system and studies have shown this too.

Personally I use soap on my hands rather than bleach.

ParlezVousWronglais · 06/02/2021 10:41

Yes absolutely. You still put your hand down there with toilet paper and then flush by touching the handle.

Everyone wipes their bum and touches the chain and any males have also touched their bits and then flushed!

You absolutely should wash your hands every time. 100% no doubt about it.

Yeah you should be using soap and water, which will do nothing to ruin your immune system. Hmm
DenisetheMenace · 06/02/2021 10:42

Always have. Would feel a bit yuck if I didn’t.

Trinacham · 06/02/2021 10:43

@Puzzler333

Anyone still thinking they shouldn't bother to take a few seconds to wash hands should study a tiny bit of history - look up Semmelweiz.

Doctor who compared childbirth deaths and infections between a ward where doctors washed hands and one where they didn't (obviously not recently). The differences were stark.

It may not be the wee itself that has put germs on your hands, but washing them regularly is required, so why not straight after a wee? You're next to the sink anyway...

Not disagreeing with what you say but my sink is in another room to the toilet Shock
GetOffYourHighHorse · 06/02/2021 10:43

'The idea that you can catch a disease from yourself is very odd.Those who think they will be covered in germs because they did a wee have just been conditioned to believe this. Logic says you won't'

You don't 'catch it from yourself'. Omg this thread. You spread your grubby bugs to others. Surfaces etc.

So even if someone lives alone they will be touching surfaces, visitors (in normal times) will touch these surfaces. You will touch surfaces outdoors with your wee hands. Then guess what, someone else will touch it too. Voila! Bacteria causes infection.

Just wash your hands after going to the loo.

@Mummadeze

Really sorry for winding people up with my answer. It was really insensitive but I was being honest about my attitude before Covid. Am a lot more aware about germ spreading now. I didn’t previously realise not washing my hands could harm others, I genuinely thought the only risk was to myself.
@Mummadeze Thank you for coming back and your honesty (genuinely). Hopefully others may realise the same and then this weird gross thread will have at least been worth it! Grin
firstimemamma · 06/02/2021 10:43

I do 9/10 but if it's a wee in the night sometimes I don't bother.

MeadowHay · 06/02/2021 10:44

Oh my god I can't believe there are so many people who don't wash their hands after they've been to the toilet Envy. I bet none of you would admit to this irl in which case surely you know you should be washing them.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 06/02/2021 10:44

'Not disagreeing with what you say but my sink is in another room to the toilet'

You just walk into the other room and erm, wash your hands.

pinkearedcow · 06/02/2021 10:45

There's no coronorvirus in wee

It can be in urine and faeces although not thought to be transmissable that way.

"SARS-CoV-2 RNA has also been detected in other biological samples, including the urine and feces of some patients.(46-50)One study found viable SARS-CoV-2 in the urine of one patient.(51)Three studies have cultured SARS-CoV-2 from stool specimens. (48, 52, 53) To date, however, there have been no published reports of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 through feces or urine. "

@NewCatMummy

Ewwww- I wash after every wee, every toilet trip, every bin bag change, every trip outside the house, before eating every time, at work about every ten minutes. Yes I get through a lot of hand cream. Yes it’s gross to not wash your hands.
^^ This is me and my family too. I’m Utterly flabbergasted by the number of people who don’t wash hands after a wee 🤮
SqeakyHindge · 06/02/2021 10:49
@SqeakyHindge - why not wash your hands then use hand gel after opening the door? What an attitude to have. You're one of the people responsible for viruses and illnesses spreading. How revolting.
Give over I haven’t left the house in almost a year!

Perhaps you do well taking food hygiene course you see how pointless that is.

u been amaze what your suitcase picks up or when your kid get threads worms have made me OTT. it took my child to make me realise had issue, after few months his hands no longer show any signs of what overwashing has done.

STF back down

BerniesMittens · 06/02/2021 10:49

A lot of these replies are the reason that I don't eat food prepared in other people’s homes. 🤮

FreekStar · 06/02/2021 10:50

I can't believe so many people get covered in wee!

IMissFrance · 06/02/2021 10:51

@Beseigedbykillersquirrels

To the filthy ones who decide they don't need to wash after a wee as their hands will still be clean, I have a question. Would you go into your bathroom and lick the light pull and and the toilet flush? If not, why not?
Yes in my own home I would.

I make sure they and the door handles, taps, top of the soap bottle are cleaned each day.

Just to clear this up for me anyway.

I wee a LOT as I drink a LOT. So sometimes I can wee 3-4 times an hour if I've just exercised and drank lots during.

If I'm home alone at those points I neither flush nor wash my hands as I know I'll be back in there 15 minutes later.

Of course should I have guests, be outside of my own home, or about to be preparing food/drink my hands will have a thorough wash every time. (Public toilets I was for 20 seconds and then sanitise once out of the toilets)

ineedaholidaynow · 06/02/2021 10:52

@BerniesMittens I always used to think people were a bit precious about not eating food prepared by someone else, I am now thinking they had the right idea

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 06/02/2021 10:52

I do, DH does and as far as I’ve noticed my friends and relatives do.

StanfordPines · 06/02/2021 10:53

The idea that you can catch a disease from yourself is very odd.

The idea that spending less than a minute washing you hands is such a laborious chore is very odd.

StanfordPines · 06/02/2021 10:53

I wash my hands every time but I don’t bleach everything to within an inch of its life. There is a middle ground.

Youcunnyfunt · 06/02/2021 10:54

Yeah, I do. The only time I might not is a 3am wee... but I can't even remember the last time I had one of those.
It's pretty gross. When I have a wee before bed, obviously (I say "obviously" but clearly this isn't a default for many people...) wash hands - if I hadn't, when I wake up, what if I put my hands on my face, rubbed my eyes, touched my mouth to cover a yawn, etc.? Bloody gross! I'd not have to "remember" if I've washed my hands before touching my face, than just.. wash my hands.

Then again, I was part of the NHS Soton study on hand washing a few years back, so I'm well aware of the (extremely strong) link between general wellness and hand washing. You are far, far less likely to have "don't feel quite right" days if you are a regular hand washer.

Lulu1919 · 06/02/2021 10:55

I do even in the middle of the night if I get up to go !!!

ineedaholidaynow · 06/02/2021 10:56

I know people shouldn’t be having visitors at the moment, but if you are a non hand washer, what happens if someone pops by, do you have to frantically clean all the touch points in the house before they come in.
