To think not everyone washes their hands after every single wee when in their own home?

Anything other than a wee, yes of course.

But washing hands after every bloody wee is overkill in my opinion

OP posts:

Even my six year old son who has eczema washes his hands after every wee! We have hand cream and moisturiser all around the house. If this year’s repeated messaging about the importance of hand washing hasn’t sunk in by now, it never will. People are so gross!

Greenevalley · 06/02/2021 05:44

Urine is not sterile!
Wash your hands everytime!

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 06/02/2021 05:52

Yanbu op.

I really really hope all the people here have the toilets with sinks on top where waste water fills the cistern. people have no concept of water wastage.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 06/02/2021 05:53

Leafygarden42

We dont flush overnight either.

SexyGiraffe · 06/02/2021 05:53

YES - wash your hands after every time you use the toilet. It's not hard. There are germs on the toilet, the door handles, etc - regular hand washing is important and even if you 'got nothing on them' it's a good moment to do it.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 06/02/2021 05:59

Re liquid soaking through paper....

Your genital area is not a sponge. You wee. 99.99% of the liquid goes in the loo. If you are weeing onto a handful of toilet paper you are doing it wrong. There are traces of liquid left, and it doesnt soak completely through well folded loo paper.

But also... where is the risk? I dont share my bathroom with anyone outside my household. Theres a separate bathroom for use by guests. The whole house gets cleaned regularly including all bathroom surfaces. I wash my hands before cooking and before leaving the house, (standard, surely?).

In terms of spreading germs with the family, the physical contact I have with others in my family is far more likely to spread disease than contact with bathroom surfaces.

ittakes2 · 06/02/2021 06:25

We keep the lid down so I have to lift it to wee. The thought of the males in the house putting the lid up and down and what they've touched before they did this motivates me to wash my hands.

FlyingFaster · 06/02/2021 06:38

I only pee max four times a day, so it's not a big deal for me really!
If it was hourly I'd be tempted not to, not going to lie...

FlyingFaster · 06/02/2021 06:40

To add to my frankly horrific behaviour, quite often every night I will not flush the toilet after a wee in the middle of the night, so that I don't wake up other household members

We're grosser still in my house, we don't flush after a wee! (unless we have guests). Insist there until the loo has a lot of toilet paper in and needs flushing or someone does a no 2.

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/02/2021 06:48

We have anti bac and soap in toilet. I don’t mind hand gel being used after a wee.

lidoshuffle · 06/02/2021 06:54

I had a FB post "My binman told me he handles X,000 other bins a day, so you should wash your hands after taking your bin in/out " as if this was a revelation. There were "Wow, I never knew that! I'll wash my hands from now on!" comments.

I'm surprised/dismayed that people don't do basic hygiene of washing hands after moving bins or going to the loo.

How wet do some people make the paper Shock
Oblomov21 · 06/02/2021 07:20

Do germs spread easily around your house. Do you get ill regularly?
What sort of illness does non hand washing create?

lboogy · 06/02/2021 07:22

I love a hygiene Olympic thread . Always good fun. Let me get the popcorn 🍿

Greenevalley · 06/02/2021 07:23

@Nonamesavail we have a septic tank so only use 2ply loo roll. It gets quite wet.

Its interesting that everyone accepts that masks still allow particles through but seem to think a square of toilet paper protects their hands from urine.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/02/2021 07:25

I do, including in the night.

PurBal · 06/02/2021 07:26

I don't. But I only don't wash in the middle of the night.

60sbird · 06/02/2021 07:27

Always wash my hands after every wee, even if I go in the middle of the night I give them a quick rinse under the tap, what difference does it make where you are, hygiene is hygiene

Insertfunnyname · 06/02/2021 07:29

I don’t. My bathroom is clean and only I use it. I only touch clean loo roll and the flush.

Why would I wash my hands? What have I touched that is so filthy I need to wash them every time?

Fireandflames666 · 06/02/2021 07:29

Urgh that's vile, this is why the thought of going to someone elses house gives me anxiety. Disgusting.

EdgeOfACoin · 06/02/2021 07:33

Yes, I wash my hands every single time after using the toilet, with soap.

I'm disgusted that people don't.

I also note that there are no voting options, which seems strange (though haven't rtft so perhaps this has been explained.)

StanfordPines · 06/02/2021 07:33

@MyVikingLife

OMG, what is it with the English, you don’t shower daily and you don’t wash your hands after using the toilet. Completely gross and disgusting.
Don’t tar us all with the same brush. Many of us do shower every day and wash our hands after using the toilet.
Meowchickameowmeow · 06/02/2021 07:34

It's just habit, basic hygiene, and a bit bloody gross not to.

EdgeOfACoin · 06/02/2021 07:37

My parents went through a phase of doing this. Seeing other people's urine-stained toilet paper stagnating in the toilet made me want to vomit.

They appear to have stopped doing this (I've never said anything.)

LegoPirateMonkey · 06/02/2021 07:41

I’ll have to hide the thread. The idea of people leaving a toilet full of wee to stagnate in their house all day and the sheer number of people who don’t have hand washing ingrained as a habit is depressing. I didn’t realise it was so widespread to not have an understanding of the most basic hygiene!
