DSIL snarky comments re my car me or being there for 2 days in Lockdown?

FeckenLD3 · 05/02/2021 12:32

We live right by a nature reserve, lots of dog walkers, DSIL is one. She is rather, umm, curious, about goings on.

My car wasn't outside the house from Monday 9am till Tuesday evening.

She's messaged me to ask why 😵.

AIBU to tell her to mfyfob?

Ignore her. That's so nosy.
Or tell her you visited your lover.

Aelfrid · 05/02/2021 14:05

Depending on how bored you are how well you get on in general, I'd tell DH SIL asked so he knows, and then I'd be deliberately vague with her and wait to see how long it is before she cracks, and phones to tell him you're having an affair with Geoff from the parish council.

MollyButton · 05/02/2021 14:08

Love the diagram.
Far more interesting reason than I expected.

But I probably would have told everyone within hearing how I'd driven 5 hours for DH, to get extra kudos. (But then I don't have a judgey/nosy SIL).

justasking111 · 05/02/2021 14:10

I would say I am surprised you are risking the nature reserve the police have targeted it and are fining lots of people and hope she has not been fined.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 05/02/2021 14:14

"Why wasn't your car on the drive?"

"I was with my lover while DH was away."

2pinkginsplease · 05/02/2021 14:19

So would to message back

If I told you , I’d have to kill you x

2pinkginsplease · 05/02/2021 14:21

IS she normally nosey or Is she wanting to report back to her brother?

Angeldust747 · 05/02/2021 14:22

👏👏 For the diagram, love it! 🤣

ZeroFuchsGiven · 05/02/2021 14:24

She's messaged me to ask why

How is that a snarky comment?

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 05/02/2021 14:25

"Well see... the strangest things happened..." then turn your phone off.

Answer any and all questioning with "why?". Drives people bonkers, especially if they were arseholes to begin with Grin

Really convoluted story of multiple very ling messages about this friend you had to go see, insert all her back story from birth to now, drama etc.. without actually getting to the point.

Pretend you don't know what she's talking about. The car has been there the whole time.

pooopypants · 05/02/2021 14:26

Please reply with "we lent it to a couple who were going dogging and they left the back seat in quite a state. It took them a while to track down a valet service that's still open during lockdown"

Please. Pretty please?

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 05/02/2021 14:26

Because if you're worried about someone you ask if they're ok,give them a call, ask how things are going.

Not "why hasn't your car been on the drive for two days?".

AtLeastPretendToCare · 05/02/2021 14:27

I would probably message back “haha you’re hilarious!”

This place is bizarre at times.

To me that is just a perfectly normal question to ask a relative, not snarky or anything else. Confused

Even your relatives are entitled to their privacy. Why do you think it's any of your business what they've been up to? If they want you to know where they've been, they'll tell you.

This.

I would also wonder why - in lockdown - someone's car wasn't there for 2 days.

Going to take someone their laptop they 'forgot,' (on what must have been a 200 mile round trip if it was 5 hours,) is ridiculous.

And going on a 5-hour round-trip for something so trivial, sounds like a definite breach of lockdown rules.

If the police had caught you @FeckenLD3 you would have been fined, because your excuse for going that distance, and staying overnight is utterly feeble.

And I don't care if the 'lighten up 'or 'get a grip' comments come in thick and fast. That's what I think, and I'm pretty sure I'm right.

peak2021 · 05/02/2021 14:42

I have to say your DHs company being without a plan B should a laptop fail (or be forgotten) is a bit poor, even in non-Covid 19 times. Assuming DH was not so embarrassed as to hide this from them.

Not that it is your SILs concern. As for the parking map, what have you done with your garden gnomes, as they were not in the diagram?

LakieLady · 05/02/2021 14:43

@Thelnebriati

''We were trying a new car cover, makes it invisible to thieves''.
Brilliant! Say that, OP, please.

The best I could come up with was that the police had impounded it for forensic examination because they thought it had been used in a robbery.

FeckenLD3 · 05/02/2021 14:44

Why is 'forgot' in inverted commas?

I can assure you his actions were authentic.

I'm a director of the same company, I did a small amount of work on site the following morning which increased my efficiency of the task, I've worked at home (registered office) all this Lockdown whereas I normally overnight there once a fortnight.

Hotel took a copy of my driving licence and checked Companies House.

It was Essential he had his laptop.

Garden gnomes are hidden by weeds, I'm afraid, Peaky.

I'd actually hoped no one would gsbe noticed how unkempt our garden is compared to NDN's lovely manicured shrubsBlush

Having read the thread, I still don't get why you have an issue with her asking if you were away? To me that's a perfectly normal thing to ask.

Well I thought this. How ridiculous the whole thing sounds, and what a waste of time and petrol it is (as well as a gross breach of lockdown rules...),

But the OP has now dished out a drip-feed that she is in fact, a director of the same company, and did some work while she was there. Meaning she was more than entitled to break lockdown rules after all. 🙄

FeckenLD3 · 05/02/2021 15:08

My thread was nothing do to with my entitlement to break Lockdown rules. It was about how to reply to curious SIL.

So it's not a drip feed, just further info to help after thread evolved, and PPs comments warranted my pertinent info.
