To think a sitting Labour MP should operate in line with their manifesto

Leeds Labour MP has confirmed he doesn’t think women should have any sex segregated spaces (despite the commitment in the last manifesto), and that anyone who disagrees is a bigot.

If you vote for a party, shouldn’t you be able to rely on your MP abiding by manifesto commitments?

Also, what kind of woman hating psychopath thinks that refuges and prisons should be mixed sex?

I left the LP over their treatment of women (plus the Corbyn cult and the anti semitism)and my vote will go to the party that knows what women and protects them in law - this is not going to be the LP in my lifetime.

If this is the Tories then so be it.

purpleboy · 04/02/2021 23:34

At least he has shown his true colours. Get writing, let's tell the LP and our MPs what we think of this.

Impatiens · 04/02/2021 23:50

I want Keir Starmer to stop trying to hide from this issue of misogyny within the Labour party. I want him to rebuke this creep and order him to apologise. I want him to show public support for Rosie Duffield and condemn the bullying and harassment she's faced from factions within the party.

I want him to state, publicly and unequivocally, that the party supports Women, understands the sex-based inequality and violence they experience and exactly what his party intends to do to address these issues.

If he fails to do that in the very near future he can forget about me ever voting Labour again.

radicalnotion · 04/02/2021 23:52

Starmer will do none of the above. I was hopeful too but it has gone too far.

Impatiens · 05/02/2021 00:01

I'm not holding out a lot of hope radicalnotion, so far he's proved to be totally spineless.

I just don't understand what his plan is for Labour - has he even got one or is he prepared to see it sink into political oblivion before he shoves off to a plum job elsewhere?

shouldreallynamechangemore · 05/02/2021 00:20

@HettieMillia

They're better than labour sooty. And I'm not going to vote for a party that hates women. Over half of the population. That's crazy. And I'm not one to spoil (waste) my vote. I don't really get why people do that tbh.
I will do it because the candidates have to check every single spoiled ballot so will see exactly why they have lost my vote. And because I would never vote Tory.
HettieMillia · 05/02/2021 00:22

Starmer has had plenty of opportunity to call this out. Plenty of time. He hasn't done so. Surely that tells people what they need to know. He's not going to. Not unless it suits him at some point in the future for political gain. He doesn't give a shit about this.

ilovesooty · 05/02/2021 00:22

He can't put policy in place by himself. There hasn't been a party conference yet and he needs to be mindful that society isn't living through normal times and we're a long way from a General Election.

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 05/02/2021 00:26

@ilovesooty

Absolutely nothing would or could convince me to vote Tory. I couldn't countenance throwing all less privileged people under a bus.
It's better than throwing all women under the bus as it might get the issue recognised.
shouldreallynamechangemore · 05/02/2021 00:27

Agreed. He has had loads of opportunities to, at the very least, add some nuance. He hasn't. All LP representatives are obviously briefed to repeat the mantra "more light, less heat" and "we need a grown up debate" ad nauseum without ever shedding any light or taking part in the debate except when it is to belittle their female voters.

The poster who said it was a race to the bottom is spot on. My vote is all I have now and I will not be emotionally blackmailed into ignoring my own interests and the interests of women and, indeed, my gay friends at the next election.

NiceGerbil · 05/02/2021 00:28

No it isn't .
None of the parties are friends of women and girls.
I won't vote for any of them. Which is a waste.

Bring back monster raving loony. Lord sutch had great policies around cycling.

shouldreallynamechangemore · 05/02/2021 00:29

@ilovesooty

He can't put policy in place by himself. There hasn't been a party conference yet and he needs to be mindful that society isn't living through normal times and we're a long way from a General Election.
And yet he has already said Labour will reform the GRA and introduce self-ID
Impatiens · 05/02/2021 00:29

That's the problem though @ilovesooty, he's being too cautious and it's not only losing the party supporters but also emboldening the misogynist bullies within Labour.

I understand being mindful, but it doesn't excuse failing to say anything at all in support of Women.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 05/02/2021 01:05

I have said it before and will say it again,

All those men who are actively working to remove single sex spaces where women and children are at their most vulnerable, are exactly the kind of men we need to keep out.

"When a man tells you who he is, believe him"

Whatsnewpussyhat · 05/02/2021 01:06

I understand being mindful, but it doesn't excuse failing to sayanything at allin support of Women

It really doesn't. The man is a fucking coward.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/02/2021 01:54

He can't put policy in place by himself. There hasn't been a party conference yet and he needs to be mindful that society isn't living through normal times and we're a long way from a General Election.

When there was a party conference, women holding a fringe women's rights meeting were abused, threatened, intimidated and shamed.

ilovesooty · 05/02/2021 03:24

There hasn't been a physical conference since 2019. Starmer wasn't leader then.

HettieMillia · 05/02/2021 03:40

How does making all spaces mixed-sex help Muslim women or orthodox Jewish women or women who have been traumatised by men? How does making prisons mixed-sex help some of the women who find themselves at the bottom of society?

I get what your saying, but this is about all women, not just some women. It's not good for any women. The men pushing this don't give a shit about any woman, no matter who they are, what their experience is or what their beliefs are. How about all women need single sexed space and that's it? All women. Really we don't need to keep justifying the position and legal rights to men. The answer is simply no.
Or just take the staniland question. It makes it far simpler:
Do you believe that male-born people with a penis should have the right to undress and shower in a communal changing room with teenage girls ...
(Personally I take that further with all male born people, with or without a penis, but I'm sure the point is made regardless)

Of course to any logical person without an agenda, the answer is no. How on earth could it be anything else? And that, is that. This is a war on women. It's not just words. It's a fact. Just look how it's going down for women in America now Biden is in. We need to vote with our feet. (Or the cross in the box.) Because if we don't, it will be years and years before we even have a chance to roll this crap back. Seriously, we can't take this kind of risk over something so fundamentally important.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/02/2021 07:19

There hasn't been a physical conference since 2019. Starmer wasn't leader then.

Are you saying you don't think the shameful Brighton stuff would have happened if he had been?

TheGoogleMum · 05/02/2021 07:36

I think Starmer is trying not to take too strong a stance either way as he doesn't want to lose either the woke vote or the female vote (for those of us that understand the reality of what's happening). I suspect when pressed they'll side with the woke vote though. Do any of the left wing parties know what a woman is? I cannot vote right wing.

ChattyLion · 05/02/2021 07:40

Appalling that Sobel actively seems to support obliterating safety, privacy and dignity for more than half his constituency ie girls, women and their accompanying young male children.

Given that he’s apparently happy to see them all subjected to indecent exposure in the course of using public facilities to exercise or swim, and then to change and shower etc.

Whatwouldscullydo · 05/02/2021 08:07

Well.we should be grateful really. The longer this goes on the more confident and cocky people become.

I'm.all for the public occurrences of following things to their logical conclusion. Probably does more to raise awareness than the emails they just ignore when u send.

So thank you sir.

MadameBlobby · 05/02/2021 08:14

What a total arsehole

teawamutu · 05/02/2021 08:25

I'm going to mail my Tory MP, who I already know is resolutely unwoke.

But I'm also going to email the constituency Labour party and ask if they agree. I suspect they are of the wokey persuasion but I've been meaning to let them know exactly why I left and why they lost my vote.

Coffeeandcocopops · 05/02/2021 08:41

Need to get him on to the piers Morgan show. Not a fan of him but he can be vocal about this issue.
