Would you date someone shorter?

I'm going for a socially distanced walk next week with someone I met on tinder and have been chatting to for a short while, (yes it is allowed and he lives round the corner from me!). Problem is I think he might be shorter than me! I'm about 5ft8 so not small. I've always dated tall men. I'm not sure if it will bother me but I'm nervous it'll be awkward! I haven't asked how tall he is as don't want to turn it in to a thing but he looks short in his social media photos. Has anyone here ever been on a date with someone shorter? Am I incredibly shallow to worry about this?

I can't believe the responses on here! Go and meet him and see how you feel.

CSIblonde · 01/02/2021 13:53

I'm 5ft10, can't walk in heels & have dated short men. They were always v confident extroverts ( I have a type personality wise) & they wouldn't have been bothered if I'd worn heels. What's that quote, "everyone's the same height lying down..."?

Bluntness100 · 01/02/2021 13:53

@Clawdy

My gran used to say "They're all the same height when they're lying down next to you...." Wink
Yeah but they ain’t the same height when they are standing next to you.
stopgap · 01/02/2021 13:55

I married a shortie 😁

I’m 5’7.5 and he’s 5’7. He’s got a great physique, in my opinion. Also he’s exceptionally kind, funny, self-deprecating, intelligent and earns a fortune. So, you know, all of that trumps the fact he’s shorter than me.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 01/02/2021 13:59

Yep, I'd be quite happy. I'm 5'7" and, in an ideal world my dates are around 5'9". I don't have a thing for tall guys. But .... quite happy for them to be taller or shorter. It's not something I'm particularly hung up on.

Member869894 · 01/02/2021 14:02

No. I just couldn't

CounsellorTroi · 01/02/2021 14:04

I am 5ft 2 and DH is 5ft 6. He is stocky and deep chested and I love the feel of my boobs against his chest.

Shantotto · 01/02/2021 14:05

I’m 6ft so if I’ve only dated men taller than me I would have spent most of my life single. I’ve only met a couple of men taller than me I liked enough to be in a relationship with so I’d have been pretty stuck if I was that particular.

SusannaSpider · 01/02/2021 14:08

Wow, shocked by the replies. DH is 5'8” and I'm 5'10". In heels I do tower over him a bit, I've never given it a thought though, he's a good guy I'm lucky to have him (though I tell him he's lucky to have me😁) and I've never thought twice about his height.
Though I do notice that tall men often choose women a lot shorter than them, leaving us tall girls out in the cold.

But if their legs are shorter than your's it ain't a turn on
OhCaptain · 01/02/2021 14:11

I don’t get on with the ‘same height lying down’ school of thought.

I don’t want legs shorter than mine, and it’s not always lying down in any case!

Most men are longer in the body and shorter in the leg though. Unless they are lanky beanpoles.

I always worry when I see these threads. DS1 has consistently tracked on a low centile and I hate the thought that in future he'll find it hard to meet someone just because of his height.

Chanjer · 01/02/2021 14:16

Blokes aren't vilified for not liking fat women wtf!?Grin

OhCaptain · 01/02/2021 14:16

@Tricerapops there are plenty of responses saying it doesn’t bother them!

Go on any Facebook singles site, and look at the responses to the guys who say "Max size 12 preferred, please", or similar. The rage that something like that creates is insane.
Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 01/02/2021 14:19

CorianderBlues
how would you feel if someone said they wouldn't date you because you were too fat?

amused
because I am many things but I am definitively not fat Grin

I have never and wouldn't date a man who is fat either though Wink

Unlike some bitter posters, I am also very comfortable in my looks and happy that not everybody must find me attractive.

Out of curiosity, what do you say to MEN who wouldn't date a woman too short or tall?

This type of thread really shines a light.
yes, some of us have taste. And standards.

@OhCaptain true! I'm just a pessimist Grin

Although a number of the "shorties" are still quite a bit taller than his expected height.

I don't know, really, I am average size and weight (I still fit in my school uniform!), but I have seen plenty of fallout when men put conditions or preferences on a potential partner, as i said above on FB dating sites etc. When a woman does it, it is seemingly ignored/accepted. I just do not like double standards, for anything. If it's good for a him, it's good for a her.
Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 01/02/2021 14:23

I still fit in my school uniform!

seeing that that would be the worst turn off all if you ask me.

Plus I like muscles, so my now middle-aged targets tend to be wider and stronger than they were at 16.

to be fair to you, it's MN here.
Anything coming from a man tend to be met with a lot of anger and bitterness, I give you that
