Would you have reported?
I'm not a fan of reporting for reporting sake so this has shocked me.
Just what outcome was expected by sending footage to his bosses?

YABU = he deserves to lose his job.
YANBU = it's batshit he kicked a snowman.

Soz if there has been a thread already.

** Sorry hit post by mistake.

He's been a bit of a twat, but shouldn't have lost his job.

As for the binman, his friends have said on Facebook that he actually lost his position with the agency due to becoming aggressive and threatening his manager when being told off about the incident. He apparently had to be escorted off the premises by police.

THIS is why he lost his job.

Why is the CCTV 'apparently illegal'? Any Ring type door bell would have recorded it. Perfectly legally.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 31/01/2021 17:58

Re racism: some people consider the term "thug" racist, often in America where I think its usage is slightly different. It's actually a loan word from Hindi meaning "bandit" or "robber".

So many people need work at the moment that the council and the agency can both afford to be selective who they employ, or continue to employ. I'm glad they've acted against boorish and apparently violent behaviour, instead of dismissing it as "banter" as often happens.

iklboo · 31/01/2021 18:00

Yes the word 'thug' seems to have been rewritten, mainly in the US, to come from The Hate U Give as a racist slur. It doesn't mean that, as PP has pointed out.

RollOn2022 · 31/01/2021 18:02

I think a lot of people think he lost his job for this one thing. I think it’s unlikely. If he was an employee he may have had several warnings on file and this was the one that lost him his job.

If it was the first incident, it may be that they view such things very seriously. For instance company reputation etc.

SamLovesLembasBread · 31/01/2021 18:03

A thug can be any colour even in the US, and the man in question appears to be white, so I fail to see how calling him a thug could possibly be racist.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 31/01/2021 18:04

I heard about it on the radio. It said that a 3 and 6 year old built a six foot snowman (yeah, sure they did) and the bin man did a roundhouse kick and knocked its head off (impressive reach there).

Thugs were robbers/muggers/thieves and followers of Kali. Not nice people... I’ve never heard of it being thought of as racist (not bandit for that matter).

davidsSchitt · 31/01/2021 18:04

Well I wasn't being racist despite @PlanDeRaccordement deciding that I was.

Where I'm from (not the US) this little twat is the very epitome of what we call a thug.

OlympicProcrastinator · 31/01/2021 18:06

Shitty reporting. He didn’t lose his job. He’s employed by an agency. Unless the agency sacked him he still has a job with them but they’ll have to send him on another contract.

The guy is a massive argumentative aggressive twat by the sounds of it. No sympathy.

AKissAndASmile · 31/01/2021 18:08

Er, yes he did do that. Either you didn't watch the video or you're actually impressed by his reach 🤔

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 31/01/2021 18:08

It isn't racist to call someone behaving thuggishly, a thug.

It is a word of Indian origin and not specifically used to describe black people.

Bin thug was acting like a jackass when he was supposed to be working and then lost his temper.

BluebellsGreenbells · 31/01/2021 18:09

Those saying he shouldn’t have lost his job, I take it you have contacted him about your current positions?

No? Don’t fancy dealing with his shit attitude?

B33Fr33 · 31/01/2021 18:14

Let's hope the nickname snowman or such follows him around. His behaviour and response to his employer speaks volumes.

B33Fr33 · 31/01/2021 18:16

And no doubt he thinks he's awesome for knocking a disintegrating spheroid off another one. I might have martial arts traiming but i'd hardly think that would impress anyone with my "skill".

DaylightSunlight · 31/01/2021 18:18

Same here. I actually did a double take and finally clicked the link to see the colour of the 'thug'. I'd thought the pp said that because the word 'thug' was being thrown about because he's black but nope, it's a white man. So don't see how the use of the word is racist here. I can see how that would be if it was used to describe a black man but not being said about a white man, however it's being rightly used.
Hugoslavia · 31/01/2021 18:20

It was a mean thing to do. He deserved a warning at least.

Daisysflowers · 31/01/2021 18:24

I wouldn’t want anyone working for my company that behaved the way he did in the video. It was a bit more then a kick he went back for a second time to kick it over. There was no need for behaviour like that.

DinnaeFashSassenach · 31/01/2021 18:29

@AliceMcK

He should of get a telling off from his bosses for his behaviour while working but loosing his job is way over the top.
They did give him a telling off. His response to this was a refusal to apologies and swearing at his bosses.
SlummingAngel · 31/01/2021 18:32

From the sounds of things he wasn't reported as such but someone put a video on social media and it got back to the employers.

Totally unprofessional and unsurprisingly the council doesn't want someone who does that so asked the agency not to send him back. If he's still employed by the agency they can easily send him to other jobs.

DinnaeFashSassenach · 31/01/2021 18:39

I wonder if any of the people defending him would offer him a job.
What would his references say?

"Unprofessional, aggressive, ignores direction from supervisor/colleagues (whoever ran over to him on the recording), acts in a violent manner in public, when being spoken to by management, refuses to apologise, swears and threatens management."

funinthesun19 · 31/01/2021 18:45

I think this is now all more than just about a snowman.

Anyone who behaves like he was behaving whether working or just walking down the street, if someone kicks a lump of snow like he did and then goes back for more, it says a lot about their character - and it’s not pleasant.

He needs to grow the fuck up.

I'm guessing no Grin
Tigger001 · 31/01/2021 18:46

Who on earth would want him representing their business?

He wasn't sacked, he was agency and not asked back.

It was online and they seen him, so pulled him in.

In contrast our bin men gave our son a big chocolate Christmas Santa not kicking down a snowman when people have small pleasure at the moment. Snowman aside he's proven he's not a nice person and he would not be representing my company.

Yes, his bosses tried to talk to him about it. He swore at them.
Goodbye2020Hello2021 · 31/01/2021 18:48

So he deserved all he got.

GabsAlot · 31/01/2021 18:50
