AIBU to think women should not be banned from Social media for asking the question - Thread 3

Many women have been suspended from sm for asking the question:

“Do you believe that male sexed people should be allowed access to changing rooms and showers for female sexed people and teenagers?”
Seems like a perfectly reasonable question which we should be allowed to ask.

Let’s vote with our AIBU.

I don't believe in gender balancing. If I get a role, I would like to have recieved it because I was the best candidate. Not because they need another vagina in the room.

I get that you don’t see that sex discrimination is still happening. You have made the point before.

Just like you support skating competitions but cannot see the relevance for awarding women’s excellence in other areas.

I can also see how this has played out in the toilet issue. Because you personally believe any woman or girl’s distress is due to their own paranoia. Nothing else.

I don't believe in gender balancing

So you don't believe that women face any discrimination because of their sex?
If that is the case why are we not allowed to express our opinions on Social Media ?

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/02/2021 10:11

Let's just dismiss sexism in its entirety. Patriarchy, chauvinism, misogyny and any need whatsoever for feminism. The lot can go

Yes the balancing is nothing to do with hiring lesser people and every thing to do with institutional racism and sexisn etc

Its embarrassing that people basically need telling to not just hire straight white guys but these quotas aren't there for the fun of it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/02/2021 10:11

Why do you feel entitled to another child's personal medical information?

Someone's sex isn't "personal medical information". It's not just about the trans person's privacy and dignity, other people have rights too.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/02/2021 10:12

This. It's cherry picking.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 01/02/2021 10:13

Why do you feel entitled to another child's personal medical information?

Really? Why did you feel entitled to place your child with a penis in sexed accommodation for females and feel that those females had no right to know that. Nor their parents?

And fyi, sex is not medical information. My daughter has rights as well.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/02/2021 10:13

Indeed. If a male individual wants to access a position reserved for women, as means of validation, what hope is there that they are suddenly going to start putting women and their needs first. Or any understanding of what those needs actually are.

Exactly.

Datun · 01/02/2021 10:19

Why do you feel entitled to another child's personal medical information?

Again, it's one way entitlement. Women aren't entitled to know the sex of your adult step child, but your adult step child is entitled to know theirs in order to determine their choice of space.

How would your step child know which toilet to use, if they weren't entitled to know the sex of the people in there.

Because unless you and your daughter are going into somebody's pants, you don't have an inherent right to know what's in there. You're daughter would've probably found out sooner rather than later, it's not exactly a secret.

The school leaders, sd, and I had a meeting to discuss what we wanted and how we could make it work. They had no issues accommodating us to the best of their ability.

CoffeeTeaChocolate · 01/02/2021 10:20

I don’t believe in gender balancing

Really?

Women are less likely to be hired due to their biology ie the “risk” that they get pregnant. Do we want to throw them under the bus?

There are also experiences that the kind of language you use in job adverts will make it more or less likely for women to apply.

Finally, some experiences show that if you have an aptitude test before the interview, the likelihood of hiring a female is higher as women are socialised to be more modest that men and viewed differently.

Very few companies recruit with these differences in mind, they only use a gender balancing view and you don’t think that even that little is valid?

@Fastedbrownie
How about Oxbridge attempt to recruit more state educated children? Should that also be abandoned? I mean if we are looking for the on paper best candidate?

How about the drive to have more ethic minorities hired? Should we just abandon that as well? Maybe they are not the best candidates on paper?

Or is it just women that don’t need any additional help in competition (even though the maternity question will weigh heavily against them as will maternity leave in the past)?

I am actually really upset about this. I would appreciate if you answered my question though. I am genuinely interested.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/02/2021 10:21

you don't have an inherent right to know what's in there.

It's not about what's in their pants, it's about the integrity of a single sex space. If the space is mixed sex, this should be made clear.

Winesalot · 01/02/2021 10:23

Presumably they've been voted into those roles by their peers.

Most likely the same way the Green Party women’s roles were elected. By a very active and non-representative group of people who wanted to position their candidate to enact the changes they wanted.

Why do you presume that these officer roles at university would be elected any differently? Again though, if you ignore the sexist discrimination, this will seem like a fair scenario.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 01/02/2021 10:24

The school leaders, sd, and I had a meeting to discuss what we wanted and how we could make it work. They had no issues accommodating us to the best of their ability

And what about how other parents would feel it would work? Do their rights simply not matter at all.
The hypocrisy is rank. There were reasons why my child attended a single sex school. Why would you think you had the right to remove that choice from me and my daughter?

Fastedbrownie · 01/02/2021 10:24

Not exactly. I don't know what's in your daughters pants and I don't care to. It could be an entire dorm of transgirls for all I know or care.

Put simply, the school asked if we wanted a girl or boy hall. We said girl. We then went through a range of possible arrangements before settling on one that worked for all of us. I didn't put a gun to their head and say girls' halls or else...

But Fastedbrownie, if you think no one is entitled to know the sex of anyone else, and it doesn't matter anyway, what's wrong with a mixed space for your step child? Whilst preserving a single sex space for those who do mind?

Or does that not work, because determining the sex of some people is absolutely vital for your step child in order to access their space?

NotBadConsidering · 01/02/2021 10:27

I’ll bet my house that no one asked the girls themselves, or if they were and/or expressed concerns about their own privacy they were dismissed.

How do we tell the difference between the nice genuine dysphoric transwomen and the likes of Yaniv? Can anyone ever give an answer to this question?

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/02/2021 10:29

Yes I can

When the not nice ones do something not nice then they can be afforded the notion of not being true trans.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/02/2021 10:29

I wouldn't take that bet.

Even non-passing ones. We personally don't have any issues with transwomen who don't pass, I just understand why women wouldn't want them in their spaces.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/02/2021 10:33

Most likely the same way the Green Party women’s roles were elected. By a very active and non-representative group of people who wanted to position their candidate to enact the changes they wanted.

Exactly. The reason women's ringfenced roles need to be female only, is to stop male interests prevailing, as they tend to do. To give women a voice. Or there is no point.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/02/2021 10:35

Even non-passing ones. We personally don't have any issues with transwomen who don't pass, I just understand why women wouldn't want them in their spaces.

Then a third space, if one existed, would be completely acceptable to your MTF stepchild, no?

NotBadConsidering · 01/02/2021 10:35

We personally don't have any issues with transwomen who don't pass

Except Yaniv. You said you had an issue with Yaniv.

Good question, Datun.
