Currently on calorie counting so I've been parted with my favourite Prosecco since the 2 Jan.

I've been drinking gin instead as my second favourite tipple of choice. Currently I'm liking Hendrick's but I get bored.

Should I stick, or twist?
@cardibach agree about the Da Mihle seaweed gin, found it yuk. However, their botanical gin with the blue label is absolutely gorgeous, have you tried it? It's one of my faves.

Closely followed by Brecon gin, it's really lovely. It is made by the same distillery who make Penderyn whiskey which is 👌👌👌
I have Idris and I agree!
Do try [inthewelshwind.co.uk]] as I suggested earlier - awesome gin. And they are working on a whisky...

cardibach · 29/01/2021 08:08

Damn. Cocked up the link again.

cardibach · 29/01/2021 08:16

@Ginfordinner you asked Which gins do you recommend that have a pronounced juniper taste?
Pretty much anything labelled London Dry will be this style - in terms of supermarket ones, Tanqueray or Sipsmith are good.
For more off piste ones I’m a member of the Craft Gin Club who send a lovely parcel of goodies at intervals you decide (I have mine 2 monthly) or a trawl on the master of malt website. That’s where I found moonshot, which I really like!

jambeforeclottedcream · 29/01/2021 08:17

Tarquins is lush but it's a bit pricer than most

changingusernamecosofthis · 29/01/2021 08:18

HADRIANS WALL gin 😋

BarbaraofSeville · 29/01/2021 08:18

@Nonbio46

My husband bought me some Malfy pink grapefruit gin for Christmas and it’s delicious. Highly recommend it. 🍸
Now that is one of the few that I don't like (although basic Malfy is lovely), which just goes to show how all our tastes differ, making threads like this little more than a random list of types of gin.
Seaglad · 29/01/2021 08:19

Isle of Harris is my staple favourite.
But I love:
Glaswegin
Makkar
Malfy con arancia
Tarquin's
Fine (it's French)

Rememberallball · 29/01/2021 08:21

My regulars are Tanqueray; Tarquins (got to love Cornish gin); Hendricks; Gordon’s White Peach or Sicilian lemon; Warner Edwards Rhubarb; Greenall’s Wild Berry; JJ Whiteley Pink Cherry. In fact, there are few I don’t like - but I find the accompaniment is what makes it and my tonic of choice is Fentiman’s pink Rhubarb.

LeaveMyDamnJam · 29/01/2021 08:24

Silentpool is lovely and the bottles are too. Great for candles in the garden when the bottle is (too quickly) finished.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 29/01/2021 08:26

Our standard gin is Adnams Copperhouse which is lovely.

I occasionally buy a flavoured gin but prefer it unflavoured. Although I'm quite fond of Pinkster gin in the summer.

LeaveMyDamnJam · 29/01/2021 08:26

@Rememberallball. My favourite tonic too. I have it with homemade vanilla vodka (a vanilla pod in a bottle). It tastes like rhubarb and custard!

celtiethree · 29/01/2021 08:27

Has anyone mentioned Scilly Spirit Island gin? It’s just lovely especially with Mediterranean tonic. And the bottle is beautiful.

alliejay81 · 29/01/2021 08:28

Cotswolds, Mermaid and Tarquin's for me. But only serve Cotswolds with a light tonic, it's not nice with a full tonic.

Monkey 47 is best served with lime and sage, I'm much less keen without the sage! Our bottle of Jawbox disappeared quite quickly so we must have really liked that one!

Labobo · 29/01/2021 08:31

Salcombe. Expensive but worth it. The only gin so good I'd sip it neat.

Ooh sounds good - might have to order a bottle of vodka and a pack of vanilla pods 🤣🤣

Labobo · 29/01/2021 08:33

@alliejay81 - thanks for that tip about Monkey. DH bought some for Christmas but I didn't get around to tasting it before Dry Jan, so I might try a sage and lime Monkey on 1st Feb.

I've tried the lemon one and it's so nice. Especially good in summer

I dint know if this is even available anymore but my treat gin is Wrecking Coast Cornish Clotted Cream gin.

It is delicious garnished with strawberries.

JorisBonson · 29/01/2021 08:36

Haven't rtft but JJ Whitely London Dry Gin had been a game changer.

Bought it online for a cocktail day and only picked it because it was the cheapest on the website - it's lush and I can't drink any other gin now!

JorisBonson · 29/01/2021 08:37

So for those lucky to live on Guernsey, Bluebottle gin is 🤤🤤🤤🤤

SadderThanEeyore · 29/01/2021 08:49

@JorisBonson jj whitley London dry is faultless. It knocks spots off anything else at that price point. Best served with a slice of lime.
It's the house pour in a local pub - where there are more than a hundred gins 😍 people go and stay there and spend the weekend trying different gins / different serves etc. I'd have to write them all down, after a few you wouldn't remember which one was which!
Shetland Gin has some great offerings.
If you like fruit flavoured gin then Whitley Neill is your friend for quality flavoured gins along with their sister distillery Aberfalls.
Marylebone is outstanding London dry.
The mixer makes a huge difference, so don't give up on a gin until you have tried different serves. Indian tonic is sweeter than slimline, which has a dramatic effect on a gin with fennel / aniseed flavours - they don't go as well with slimline.

JorisBonson · 29/01/2021 09:16

I'll try Marylebone @SadderThanEeyore, thanks. The only flavoured gin I've ever enjoyed is the Tanqueray Seville orange, apart from that I find them all quite gross.

Glad there's another JJ Whiteley fan - I've been drinking it pretty much exclusively since I discovered it. It also makes the BEST gin martinis!

noblegreenk · 29/01/2021 09:57

My favourite gin is drumshando irish gunpowder gin. It's such a lovely gin and comes in a beautiful blue ribbed bottle.
