To ask what your favourite gin is?

Currently on calorie counting so I've been parted with my favourite Prosecco since the 2 Jan.

I've been drinking gin instead as my second favourite tipple of choice. Currently I'm liking Hendrick's but I get bored.

Should I stick, or twist?

XiCi

Which is why I like the 2 Adnams ones best - tastes like gin, only more so!

Never been a fan of overly messed about gin!

IndecentFeminist · 29/01/2021 20:22

Interestingly I read a comparison of various gins a couple of years ago in which Morrisons own gin came top.

Itstheprinciple · 29/01/2021 20:51

Tanqueray Saville is my very favourite, with ginger beer, preferably Fentimans but the Morrisons Best one is doing the job right now, with slices of orange and a star anise.

Failing that a nice Gordon's is fine with me, with fever tree tonic. I don't get the snobbery over gin, I've been drinking it for years and Gordon's has always hit the spot.

Sacred Pink grapefruit gin. So nice.

I am enjoying the suggestions on here and have learned a new term so I know what to look for. Thank you for starting this thread @noisenoisenoisenoise Gin

My absolute favourite is Martin Millers, second favourite, although it's deeply unfashionable is Bombay sapphire. Honorable mention to aldis greysons.

Salcombe is another firm favourite in this house with a slice of grapefruit, and if you’re looking for a budget option once upon a time Aldi did a grapefruit gin which was delicious!

Copper Frog is my all time favourite though if you can get hold of a bottle!

Gekeos · 29/01/2021 21:24

Have you tried the double Dutch cucumber and watermelon tonic? You can get it on Amazon it transforms your gin and perfect with Hendrix

Bluebird1234 · 29/01/2021 21:28

Do like Sipsmith and Edinburgh. Need to try Harris gin in the lovely bottle

ElGuardiandenoche · 30/01/2021 04:18

There’s nowt wrong with just having a fridge full of gin 😁. That’s some collection you have, I’m impressed. Do they not get too warm on top of the fridge though? We’ve only got about six different types in the fridge along with a couple of vodkas and obviously a box of fevertree and a box of London tonic which is DHs tonic of choice. I find that way I don’t need as much ice in the mix to water it down 😂

DramaAlpaca · 30/01/2021 04:48

I haven't yet met a gin I didn't like.

I asked DH for a bottle of 'interesting' gin for Christmas. On the advice of the guy in the off licence he got me Monkey 47 - very good, definitely interesting.

I love Ophir, also interesting, but maybe an acquired taste.

I'm not a major fan of pink gin, but I like the one you get in Irish Aldis can't remember the name but it's made in Waterford.

I have another Irish gin I have yet to try, Dingle gin. Won't open it until I've finished my Hendricks and Bombay Sapphire.

Wavey123 · 30/01/2021 06:42

Hendricks is great but expensive for the small bottle, if you’re bored I’d go for a cheaper Supermarket London dry gin (decant into the Hendricks bottle) but upgrade the tonics, most gins taste very similar. Fever tree tonics and a slice of orange and other garnishes will make a big difference

feliznavidad2 · 30/01/2021 07:27

Tobermory gin is also lovely and citrusy. 🍊

KenDoddsDadsDog · 30/01/2021 07:52

Gunpowder

ihatethecold · 30/01/2021 08:04

I’m making gin cocktails later (no idea yet what ones)
Would you get a standard supermarket gin for this or is it worth spending a bit more.

Ginfordinner · 30/01/2021 08:16

I always take the view that it would be a shame to use an expensive gin in a cocktail if you can't actually taste it. I would maybe use a cheaper branded gin instead.

ihatethecold · 30/01/2021 08:35

Thanks Gin, Thats what I was thinking.... Any recommendations for a decent cheaper gin?

OscarWildesCat · 30/01/2021 08:37

Arbikie Kirsty’s gin, definitely an acquired taste though, some hardened gin fans have tried and not enjoyed but I love it, it’s almost salty, I don’t have a sweet tooth so it suits me perfectly.

Cheapest one you can find. Most gin cocktails are built around a standard London dry so go Gordon's or Beefeater.

And yet I'll say again. Both Gordon's and Beefeater are two of the best gins I've ever tasted.

user1019273703 · 30/01/2021 11:25

I like the rhubarb and ginger from lidl, gordons pink gin (lovely with fruit) and chase rhubarb and bramley apple

@ihatethecold. I've sent you a PM

Thanks Malin52.

@Has2sons

Tanqueray Rangpur (lime) or Sevilla (orange) are my favourites (after Hendricks)
The Tanqueray ones are both lovely. I made the mistake of buying Malfy‘s blood orange one thinking that would be nice too. I was wrong. Like Roku and Tanqueray 10.
