Currently on calorie counting so I've been parted with my favourite Prosecco since the 2 Jan.

I've been drinking gin instead as my second favourite tipple of choice. Currently I'm liking Hendrick's but I get bored.

Should I stick, or twist?

Aldi own brand gin (Cromwell?) Is my absolute favourite gin. With Fentimans valencian orange tonic water .

Fi57 · 28/01/2021 22:39

I like Isle of Harris, caorunn and Bombay sapphire.

BarryTheKestrel · 28/01/2021 22:44

Bulldog is my favourite. Closely followed by Lone Wolf (I like the normal but love the cloudy lemon).
I got given a bottle of The Lakes at christmas and that is also delicious, very smooth and drinkable.

MisterT373 · 28/01/2021 22:45

Berkeley Square - check out those botanicals! Glorious!

veeeeh · 28/01/2021 22:46

I only drink Hennessy Cognac, so I shouldn't comment at all. But some of my friends love Bombay Sapphire and Gordons. So in the days when they could visit I would get a bottle of each for them + fevertree tonic. Well that was their order anyway lol.
God be with the days when we could meet and mingle and laugh and cry and support each other with hugs and all that. Sigh.

Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish gin is delicious if you ever see it on a shelf. The local pub had it as their "Gin of the week" and got me hooked.

Charmatt · 28/01/2021 22:52

Another vote for Harris gin as my favourite

I like several of the Scottish gins.

209 is beautiful. Adnams copper house, bathtub

Black shuck, think it's distilled in Norfolk.

Fishers from Aldeburgh is lovely

Silent pool isn't bad.

Pinkster is worth a try too.

Norfolk gin with the yellow font in the cream bottle is also good.

There was a pub in the next village which had an amazing selection.

For the person above who has just moved close to Thetford you really need to try the Beyton Bear after lockdown. They have a massive selection of gin

Charmatt · 28/01/2021 22:54

Sorry, I meant to post a picture of the bottle but it took a random holiday photo out of my phone instead!😂

Bluebell75 · 28/01/2021 22:57

Silent Pool - rare citrus

m0therofdragons · 28/01/2021 22:57

Sipsmith zesty orange gin with elderflower tonic. Not found one I like as much.

feliznavidad2 · 28/01/2021 22:59

Harris gin and Caorunn here.

kattekitt · 28/01/2021 23:00

Isle of Harris Gin absolute favourite

BotanyBetty · 28/01/2021 23:02

The Botanist is my new favourite (name complete coincidence Grin)

Shwighty1 · 28/01/2021 23:02

For those fans of Tanqueray Rangpur Lime try the Lidl turquoise label Hortus gin, is a really good dupe and about £12 a bottle.

maddy68 · 28/01/2021 23:04

Gin mare with normal tonic and a sprig of rosemary ❤️

Ginfordinner · 28/01/2021 23:05

@cardibach

Does it have a pronounced juniper taste I’m confused fused *@Ginfordinner* I responded to you saying you liked a gin to taste of juniper and that you liked Gordon’s. I said I don’t like Gordon’s, even though I like juniper forward gins. No, I don’t really think Gordon’s is, it’s chemically. But you said you did... I have done a few blind gin tastings over the years and my favourite gin has always ended up being Gordon’s...For me, gin has to have the pronunced juniper taste
@cardibach From the way you wrote it I thought Juniper Forward was a brand of gin not just an expression meaning that the gin tasted predominantly of juniper. Hence my question.

Which gins do you recommend that have a pronounced juniper taste?

And where do most people buy other brands of gin. Currently I buy from the supermarket. Before the pandemic I used to be able to try gins at food festivals.

Shmithecat2 · 28/01/2021 23:06

Hendricks is my staple gin, but I was given some Glaswegin for Xmas and it's lovely.

Crossandcrochety · 28/01/2021 23:09

Always always go back to Conker. It’s stunning with a slice of pink grapefruit and a sprig of rosemary.
Also very drinkable are Gin Mare, Mermaid, Scilly Spirit, Chase pomelo & pink grapefruit, and Tarquins. Tanqueray rangpur is great value and goes down very nicely too.
We’ve subscribed to craft gin club for a few years but stopped now as we were always going back to these few.

Woulditbeworth · 28/01/2021 23:09

Bathtub gin is absolutely the best.

PastramiNoRye · 28/01/2021 23:10

@Ginfordinner

I like my gin to taste of gin, not orange or lemon or cardamon or insert another flavour here.

I have done a few blind gin tastings over the years and my favourite gin has always ended up being Gordons. I also like Hendriks, Bombay Sapphire and Tanqueray. I have a bottle of York gin that I am looking forward to starting. It tasted really nice in the shop

For me, gin has to have the pronunced juniper taste. After all that is where gin gets its name from. And Fevertree Refreshingly Light tonic water is my favourite tonic water to go with it, although Mediterranean tonic water is almost as nice.

Couldn't agree more.

Beefeater all the way for me. It tastes of gin. (very juniper forward).
Bone dry, excellent in a proper Martini, ( 4:1 gin to dry vermouth, on the rocks, with a twist. Or sometimes an olive or three. )
It's also wonderful in a proper pink gin. Few drops of Angostura swirled around a chilled glass, then filled with ice, large measure of gin, a twist of lemon if you like.
Plymouth, Tanqueray and Sipsmith are also acceptable. You can keep sweet flavoured 'gins'.
The best G and T I've ever had was in a bar in San Sebastian. A chilled balloon glass, choice of gins, (i had Sipsmith) poured directly from bottle to glass, no measuring, then two or three slightly crushed juniper berries and Fevertree Light tonic. Enough ice but not a ridiculous amount. Totally delicious.

Whateverimgettingcheesefries · 28/01/2021 23:19

I really like Eden.Mill original and love gin, Pin Gin London dry and Tanqueray Sevilla.

Ginfordinner · 28/01/2021 23:21

I must look for dome Beefeater next time I go shopping.
