Currently on calorie counting so I've been parted with my favourite Prosecco since the 2 Jan.

I've been drinking gin instead as my second favourite tipple of choice. Currently I'm liking Hendrick's but I get bored.

Should I stick, or twist?

We discovered this on holiday in the Highlands and it's one of my favourites. It tastes like fresh air!

Thomas Dakin Gin with Fever tree Mediterranean tonic is lovely. Also like Bombay Sapphire and Tanqueray.

Mermaid Gin from Isle of Wight. Fantastic little distillery. Local produce at its best. Beautiful bottles too.

Another vote for mermaid gin from Isle of Wight

Tarquins with fevertree all the live long day.

We have a Craft Gin Club subscription and I’ve liked trying different gins but always go back to Tarquins. We’re probably going to cancel it as it’s getting a bit pricey every month though we’ve enjoyed trying the different gins each month.

How does everyone keep their gins? Ours are all in the fridge.

LuaDipa · 29/01/2021 06:28

Slingsby.

HelenaJustina · 29/01/2021 06:32

I love Cotswold, Siblings and Chiltern gins

cheezy · 29/01/2021 06:35

I’ve only recently realised that using full fat eg not slimline tonic, makes SUCH a difference. I don’t think I like slimline/ low cal.

There'd not be enough room for food if I kept my.gin in the fridge 😂

I keep half on top of the fridge, the other half in a cupboard in the garage

My favourite is mermaid gin with fevertree aromatic tonic and a slice of grapefruit.

My favourite non alcoholic pretender is Pentire.

This is an excellent thread, I think dry January may have to be terminated with a payday treat....

It's reminded me that I love Nordes gin (Spain has some good gins and the bottle is really stylish )
Also Manchester Wild Spirit

wifterwafter · 29/01/2021 07:09

Kilty Gin. The cleanest freshest I've ever tasted.

XiCi · 29/01/2021 07:10

My very favourite is Liverpool gin which is beautiful followed closely by Poetic licence Northern Dry but if you hate Ophyr you may not like them as they are a similar taste, albeit a thousand times nicer.

For a traditional juniper forward gin I dont think you can beat Beefeater. Crisp, dry and just a lovely clean juniper taste. I could drink it all day.

Other favourites are Monkey 47, Tanqueray Rangpur, Copperhead, Tanqueray Melacca and Malfy

Gordon's. With Schweppes tonic.

My DH is a gin distiller. I have tried 120 combinations of his gin botanicals. I have tried upwards of 100 gins from around the world. We currently have 43 bottle of gin if the house.

Gordon's is the most balanced and solid G&T gin ever and I come back to it every time.

Schweppes is the perfect mixer. Every other tonic either crowds out the gin or the flavours are contradictory.

yearinyearout · 29/01/2021 07:26

I like the bloom passion fruit and vanilla for a change, but it's quite sweet so if I'm having several I like Hendricks. I sometimes buy elderflower tonic which gives a different flavour.

AuntieMarys · 29/01/2021 07:29

Grace Gin....its a Greek one. I buy it from a Greek food importers

It's rare that I've had a gin I don't like, so I just tend to buy what I see on offer and always have a few in.

In the dim and distant past when I was able to do crazy things like go to the Canaries on holiday, I'd pick up a bottle in duty free on the way back. Best bargain was a litre of Tanquery 10 for under £25.

Waitrose is good for offers on 'fancy' gin, especially if you combine with the money off vouchers they send with their My Waitrose card.

Recently, I've bought a few bottles from The Drop Store online, which has some really good offers. Best bargains have been 2 bottles of Liverpool gin for £45, which is almost half price. Also a Welsh orange (Aber Falls?) marmalade one, which is really cheap.

I also like my gin to taste like gin, and tend to stick to normal ones, or spiced ones like Ophir, or citrus ones, I especially like the Seville Orange Liverpool one. I don't like pink strawberry gins, most gin liquers, or anything flavoured with elderflower, so tend to avoid those.

For tonic, my preference is Waitrose in cans, and I agree with a PP that most other tonics aren't fizzy enough.

My husband bought me some Malfy pink grapefruit gin for Christmas and it’s delicious. Highly recommend it. 🍸
