Currently on calorie counting so I've been parted with my favourite Prosecco since the 2 Jan.

I've been drinking gin instead as my second favourite tipple of choice. Currently I'm liking Hendrick's but I get bored.

Should I stick, or twist?

Bathtub with Fevertree Tonic

VanGoghsDog · 28/01/2021 20:48

Ooh, Conker is nice too. From Dorset I think.

SteelMack · 28/01/2021 20:53

Silent pool. Best gin mmmmmmmm

parisbynight · 28/01/2021 20:57
@parisbynight DH & I have just moved to Norfolk, any recommendations of what we should be drinking would be much appreciated Grin
@PointyMcguire Welcome to Norfolk! It sounds biased I know but there is a fantastic local food & drink scene here, and most of them have copped on to online delivery too Smile The Gyre & Gimble I mentioned have a bar with their distillery in Norwich city centre - they do gin-making sessions too where you can make your own! Not open currently, obviously. Black shuck already mentioned (good rum too) plus Norfolk Gin (v pretty ceramic bottles), What a Hoot (also making the new Sandringham gin), Archangel...Head to https://thenorfolkhub.co.uk/! Whereabouts are you (if not too outing!)

Figgygal · 28/01/2021 20:57

Brockmans
Have a gin box subscription and this month had a penningtons gin which was lovely

Normanisan1sland · 28/01/2021 20:59

Harris Gin is amazing. Rock Rose is a close second.

parisbynight · 28/01/2021 21:00

@VanGoghsDog I always assumed Adnams bottled on site too - maybe @Bookriddle was just listing out some other brands as a separate point to the Haymans distillery but the formatting made it read wrong?

PointyMcguire · 28/01/2021 21:00

@PatButchersRightEarring fab, thank you! Will check it out Gin

longtompot · 28/01/2021 21:03

Winchester gin, this one www.winchesterdistillery.co.uk/products/winchester-dry-gin

Bookriddle · 28/01/2021 21:03

@parisbynight they definitely bottle it at the haymans site, maybe not all of it! The bottles are also pre labelled, so they just put the gin inside

jambeforeclottedcream · 28/01/2021 21:08

@BarryTheChopper

Favourite ever gin is Few Breakfast gin.

It tastes slightly of Earl grey, although a pp’s suggestion of Gordon’s and earl grey teabags may just have to be tried!

Also:

Edinburgh seaside gin
Roku
Rock Rose
Mermaid pink gin
Ophir

Do try the Earl Grey thing because of that citrusy flavour the tea has.

Try a sip at about 25 mins as you might like it less intense. Let the tea bags brew slightly longer for a more intense flavour. Personal preference situation. In the end I think it was 30-35 mins in the end

MrsPnut · 28/01/2021 21:08

My favourites are
Malfy Pink Grapefruit
Tarquins
Dam Raider
Manchester Raspberry
Puerto de Indias Strawberry

Yes to Waitrose essential tonic too, I don’t want to ruin my gin with sweetener.

cardibach · 28/01/2021 21:10

Does it have a pronounced juniper taste
I’m confused fused @Ginfordinner
I responded to you saying you liked a gin to taste of juniper and that you liked Gordon’s. I said I don’t like Gordon’s, even though I like juniper forward gins. No, I don’t really think Gordon’s is, it’s chemically. But you said you did... I have done a few blind gin tastings over the years and my favourite gin has always ended up being Gordon’s...For me, gin has to have the pronunced juniper taste

claireb7rg · 28/01/2021 21:20

Jinzu is my favourite followed by silent pool

I found one in spain I Iiked and I'm trying to remember the name of it, will Google and come back

IloveJudgeJudy · 28/01/2021 21:21

Monkey 47 is wonderful
Plymouth is lovely
Plymouth Navy on special occasions
Plymouth Mr King's ltd edition(can you tell I've visited the Plymouth Gin Distillery Wink)
Anno Gin (local)
Beefeater

You can probably tell that I prefer a dry/London gin, sharp tasting, sometimes with and sometimes without tonic. Tonic will be Fevertree usually but definitely not normal Schweppes.

I'm not a fan of fruit or flavoured gins and I definitely need my gin to be in a straight glass, none of your balloons here!

BlueLionel · 28/01/2021 21:21

Whitley Neill Quince gin with fever tree cucumber tonic Star

claireb7rg · 28/01/2021 21:22

AuntyMabelandPippin · 28/01/2021 21:28

I have been drinking gin for many years and my DS introduced me to Nordes gin for Mother's Day last year.

I now buy it every couple of months, as it's absolutely lovely. I have it with lime and grapes, with Fevertree light tonic.

PointyMcguire · 28/01/2021 21:30

Ah thanks @parisbynight we’re loving it so far! We’re just outside of Thetford so not too far from Norwich. Will check out the website now.

CreaturefromtheDeep · 28/01/2021 21:30

Rock Rose is my absolute favourite and pretty much the only gin I drink these days (and I drink a lot of it). On occasion though, I'll have a Colonsay, Botanist, Shetland Reel or Harris.

Unfortunately I have a relative who seems to think I love Ophir and buys me a huge bottle every Christmas. I don't exactly hate it, but I do have to be in the mood.

Wolfiefan · 28/01/2021 21:31

I love Tanqueray Sevilla.

I found Sipsmith and Hendricks a bit blandish.
Love Bombay Sapphire.
Adding others to my list to try!

Ipadannie · 28/01/2021 21:34

For everyday drinking I really like Martin Miller. Harris gin is lush for high days and holidays.

Arrierttyclock · 28/01/2021 21:34

Love a Hendricks with a slice of cucumber in!
Bulldog is a good one as is Sipsmith. I do like a Neil Whitley orange gin as well

Arrierttyclock · 28/01/2021 21:35

Bristol dry gin is v nice as well

fishonabicycle · 28/01/2021 21:35

Chapel Down, sipsmiths, Roku.
