Depending on the material, they actually do protect, and are sufficient in the settings in which they are intended to be used, ie not in a surgical close contact situation. I still always maintain 2m plus I could not in good conscience bin 4/5 masks a day, I struggle with the level of waste I already have and even that is reduced compared to a lot of people.

And so far, touch wood, I've been covid free... Or at least symptom free!

Wtfdidwedo · 28/01/2021 19:40

I've never bought one either. I have one reusable cloth one that was given to me through work and I only need it to shop once or twice a week so never felt the need to buy one. My husband gets the medical type ones through work too and had to frequently change them.

nitsandwormsdodger · 28/01/2021 19:40

What kind of discussion were you hoping to generate from this post ?

partyatthepalace · 28/01/2021 19:41
@partyatthepalace because I'm bored

@Eleoura no...we are allowed to take them...we are encouraged to.

@blueluce85 the reusable homemade ones actually do nothing if I'm being honest with you. We use medical grade ones in my workplace because they are the ones we are required to wear in graded areas and in the lab.
Maybe read a book next time...

PurpleHoodie · 28/01/2021 19:41

There are some really nice looking ones in silk/satin on Etsy.

Givemeabreak88 · 28/01/2021 19:41

Who really cares, what an odd post

HazeyJaneII · 28/01/2021 19:41

Was this entirely necessary?

marriednotdead · 28/01/2021 19:42

I've never bought one. DP gets disposable ones from work. I tried one of his and hated it so once I realised we would be compelled to wear them, I got the sewing machine out and made some.

Hesma · 28/01/2021 19:43

Total non-post 😴😴😴

LegendDairy · 28/01/2021 19:43

I've not bought any. I've been using a cycling buff.

SmileyClare · 28/01/2021 19:43

Why don't you start an Ask Me Anything thread.. I work in a lab doing X, ask me anything.. could be more interesting?

This one's like watching paint dry.

Emeraldshamrock · 28/01/2021 19:44

Is there a point to this thread? Pathetic thing to boast about
Judging by the title and OP failing to mention she hasn't bought any as they're free in her OP I'd bet OP is fishing.
Wasting pps reading time

gagaoolaalaa · 28/01/2021 19:45

Not smug no Confused just asking a simple question. The surgical grade masks are a better option. Homemade ones should really be a last resort.

And yes I can take them for my family if needed but I don't as my dh is also supplied them through his work.

Well, then, am I the only one who never buys sellotape?

gagaoolaalaa · 28/01/2021 19:45

@SmileyClare work away with the questions I don't mind!

BillyIsMyBunny · 28/01/2021 19:47

I haven’t ever bought one either. I have to wear one all day at work and always end up with them in my car and coat pockets so I just re-use them when I need to pop into the shop. I also have a couple of reusable cloth masks which were donated to us at work which I wore when they first became mandatory in shops although not sure where they are now.

Emeraldshamrock · 28/01/2021 19:47

Well, then, am I the only one who never buys sellotape? 🤣

Livelovebehappy · 28/01/2021 19:48

I think a lot of pro mask wearers seeing the title jumped on here looking for a bun fight, thinking OP was bragging about never wearing one. Alas, not the case....

1Morewineplease · 28/01/2021 19:50

So what is your AIBU?
Many folk have been given free masks!

grapewine · 28/01/2021 19:50

Good for you, I guess? I have to budget to be able to buy them. I can't be the only one doing that. Weird post.

RuggeryBuggery · 28/01/2021 19:51

I admit I judge people a tiny bit who have disposable ones... 🙈especially acquaintances who are extremely vocal about climate change

Cuntitinthebin · 28/01/2021 19:51

I'm a little disappointed if I'm honest.

Ah sorry you have to start a new Ask me anything thread with a new title in the AMA section if you want people to erm ask you anything..

Glad you've kept yourself amused with your mask musings though. Have you tried Netflix. That's also good if you're bored.

Changemaname1 · 28/01/2021 19:53

Something I can finally join in with boasting about

Also get free masks

Preens

Wink
gagaoolaalaa · 28/01/2021 19:55

Yeah I didn't even think about my title to be honest I just thought "surely I can't be the only one to have never bought them? Ppl in work bout fancy Christmas ones and Halloween ones for the laugh (not allowed in work though) and we got talking and I said I had never actually bought one...sorry for the misleading title
