Ok. I'm very happy for you? Confused

SmileyClare · 28/01/2021 19:25

So you get free masks at work, that's good.. You could stop nicking them to wear out of work.

I'm not sure what the point of starting this thread was. Hmm

I bought a couple of multi packs of washable masks that I wear on rotation if you're interested?

Markies · 28/01/2021 19:25
@Markies I'm not boasting (what an odd thing to say) I have just realised that I have never actually purchased a mask...that's all. Bloody hell can a person not start a simple conversation in here?
Could say your thread is an odd one to start but hey ho. I’ve never bought a mask wooptie fucking do.

swashbucklecheer · 28/01/2021 19:26

I've never bought any either - I've made a load out of scrap fabric though.

Plonque · 28/01/2021 19:26

Proud of being a freeloader or proud of being a thief? Is there really a difference?! 🤷🏽‍♀️

MistleTOEboughski · 28/01/2021 19:26

We get free disposable ones at work but I prefer the fabric ones as they are more comfy. I am getting a collection going now. I just got a silk one which is quite nice and soft.

gagaoolaalaa · 28/01/2021 19:27

@partyatthepalace because I'm bored

@Eleoura no...we are allowed to take them...we are encouraged to.

@blueluce85 the reusable homemade ones actually do nothing if I'm being honest with you. We use medical grade ones in my workplace because they are the ones we are required to wear in graded areas and in the lab.

Twickerhun · 28/01/2021 19:27

Well the environmental impact of your actions is properly shit.

Just buy yourself a reusable mask and wash it regularly

PurpleHoodie · 28/01/2021 19:28

gaga

No you're quite correct. It's a nice throwaway (excuse the pun) conversation to start.

You're not alone. I've never bought any masks. Or made any. We are provided with them.

I'm thinking of having some more fashionable ones made up with filter inserts to match certain outfits.

gagaoolaalaa · 28/01/2021 19:28

@Plonque we are told to take them!! The company wants us to be safe! They are prepared to foot the bill!

SmileyClare · 28/01/2021 19:29

We're you hoping for a "I've never bought a ....." fill in your own item, thread?

I've never bought a rabbit. We inherited one from a neighbour and when he died we didn't buy another one.

FallenSky · 28/01/2021 19:29

I was having a conversation with DS earlier, after picking up a new pack of masks at the supermarket, that if you had told me a year ago that I'd be adding face masks to my weekly shop I'd have thought you were crazy. I've bought loads.

tarapinn · 28/01/2021 19:29

Yes me. I get them from work too.

Perfectly reasonable thing to talk about op

Clymene · 28/01/2021 19:30

Yay! I steal from work Confused

lavenderlou · 28/01/2021 19:32

We have some available at my school but they come out of our meagre school funds so I only wear one on the rare occasion I've forgotten to bring one from home.

Crappyfridays7 · 28/01/2021 19:33

Op already said she is told to take them for use at home sure she wouldn’t if they didn’t encourage it. I wear many at work too, we aren’t allowed to wear home made/bought ones and require to change them regularly. I don’t take any home though I have bought a few but only really go to the supermarket so wear out of the house once a week then wash.

SmileyClare · 28/01/2021 19:34

I'm surprised if you work in a lab that you don't understand the purpose of wearing a washable face covering in public. They aren't "useless", they're a basic layer to prevent droplets from the mouth and nose entering the atmosphere of those around you.

They are to protect others and any material covering does the job in a shop or public area.

gagaoolaalaa · 28/01/2021 19:34

@Clymene no it's not stealing if you are told to take them Confused

@gagaoolaalaa “We use medical grade ones in my workplace because they are the ones we are required to wear in graded areas and in the lab..”
Can regular people buy them? Do you have a link or photo- I’d love a decent mask for my mum!

gagaoolaalaa · 28/01/2021 19:35

@SmileyClare they don't though...the medical ones do. That's why they are the recommended ones to use in graded areas and when working in a LAF for example. A simple homemade mask would not suffice I'm afraid to say!

OP posts:
SmileyClare · 28/01/2021 19:36

Do you take them for all your family too?

TeenagePITA · 28/01/2021 19:37

Click bait title. Hmm

TeenagePITA · 28/01/2021 19:38

@SmileyClare

Do you take them for all your family too?
Good question!
Classicbrunette · 28/01/2021 19:38

I’ve never bought one either because my dp gets them from work in packs, and I’m a spoilt princess lol

SmileyClare · 28/01/2021 19:39

Yes a homemade mask would not suffice in a sterile lab environment for example. In a socially distanced public area such as a supermarket, any material face covering is sufficient to prevent droplets being coughed on people.

Maybe I'm in a bad mood, but you're coming across as a bit smug about your free masks I'm afraid Grin
