To ask what conspiracy theories you actually believe are true?

Following on from the thread where OP was looking for conspiracy theories for her kids to look at, I was wondering whether anyone actually believes any of the outlandish conspiracies.

We’ve all read about how people believe that Elvis didn’t die/Paul McCartney did die/the royals are all lizards/the earth is flat. But I’ve never encountered anyone who actually believes any of them, only people who talk about people who (apparently) believe in them.

So, what conspiracies do you actually believe and why?

There is (or was) a 9/11 conspiracy theory documentary on YouTube called Loose Change. Haven’t fact checked it but it’s an interesting watch

What is the pentagon thing and why would they lie about it?

I can think of two reasons... 1) to disguise having blown up an aeroplane with people’s families and friends inside and 2) to disguise defence capabilities at the site.

Not that I know they did this, I just wonder.

That is one I heard and think is feasible, horrible though that is. Demolition experts were questioning how the buildings collapsed. I'm no expert so just don't know. Whatever happened it was a dreadful tragedy for so many people.

While not quite a conspiracy, I find the Mandela Effect fascinating. The theory that, if lots of people mis-remember the same thing, it possibly could have happened but somehow our timeline has been changed. My own personal one is teaching myself as a child that the USA had 52 states ‘the same as a deck of cards’. Lots of people seem to remember being taught there were 52 states but, of course, there are only 50.
Many people also remember watching Nelson Mandela’s funeral on tv in the early 90s but he didn’t die till 2013.

@LulaMay17 read up on natural greenhouse effect vs human enhanced greenhouse effect. Humans are massively contributing to global warming. It’s not a conspiracy.

When you look at some of the photos of Donald Trump and the ex First Lady she is definitely not the same woman in some of them. Different height, different smile, different jawline.

Was this not debunked by secret service saying that they use body doubles as stand ins for some public events for safety reasons? I remember there was that uncanny valley footage of Melania as an actual unmoving mannequin but it all had a very reasonable sounding explanation, but I can't find it now

On 9/11 I think United 93 was shot down. The passengers may have fought back but I think it’s a huge coincidence that the plane heading for the White House crashed in a random field

I take the view that the overwhelming majority of conspiracy theories are evidence-free nonsense, but I would not be at all surprised if evidence did emerge that UA 93 was shot down.
