To ask what conspiracy theories you actually believe are true?

Following on from the thread where OP was looking for conspiracy theories for her kids to look at, I was wondering whether anyone actually believes any of the outlandish conspiracies.

We’ve all read about how people believe that Elvis didn’t die/Paul McCartney did die/the royals are all lizards/the earth is flat. But I’ve never encountered anyone who actually believes any of them, only people who talk about people who (apparently) believe in them.

So, what conspiracies do you actually believe and why?

I absolutely believe that there are aliens. I don’t believe that they’re little green men so to speak but I think that it’s not possible that out of the whole universe ours is the only one with intelligent life.

Yes, you are right. It would have been a big gamble. Gagarin was still incredibly brave, they weren’t 100 per cent sure a human would survive, though by the time they sent him up the dogs had become pretty regular commuters.

Aliens 👽 I do believe but I’m embarrassed. Like someone said upthread about the public’s response to a pandemic with the crazy stockpiling, the higher-ups who are privy to this info simply can’t tell joe public because the stupidity of humanity would make us implode. But I truly believe aliens live among us, we have a quality relationship with them and share advancing technology with them, and nobody dares to seriously say that they believe in aliens for fear of being thought of as unhinged (myself included except for the anonymity of mumsnet) is something encouraged by those who do know, so that anyone with real information is seen to be a bit cuckoo and is ridiculed.

With regards to your first, the list was deleted by Wikipedia in what can only be described as an act of censorship (explained here: electroverse.net/wikipedia-deletes/). Secondly, low solar activity, meridional jet stream flows, and an influx of cloud-nucleating cosmic rays are not "tiny little things" they are instead forcings far more powerful than the trace gas that is CO2. And then fourthly, nit-picking either humans are ending the planet as we know it or we're not.

If you are going to assert a CT, then surely you need to explain why it would have occurred?! E.g., why would Paul McCartney want to fake his own death? Why would the US govt claim the pentagon was hit if it wasn't?
I can see why the royal family might've wanted to get rid of Diana, or why parts of the US political establishment might've wanted rid of JFK, so they make sense. I'm not being awkward, I genuinely don't get the rationale behind them. Not sure why the authorities would go to all the bother and expense of releasing Hindley when she was pretty old already?! Can you enlighten me?

As a New Yorker who saw the second plane hit I'm a little dismayed at how many MN'ers still buy into the conspiracy theories around the attacks.

While not quite a conspiracy, I find the Mandela Effect fascinating. The theory that, if lots of people mis-remember the same thing, it possibly could have happened but somehow our timeline has been changed. My own personal one is teaching myself as a child that the USA had 52 states ‘the same as a deck of cards’. Lots of people seem to remember being taught there were 52 states but, of course, there are only 50.
Many people also remember watching Nelson Mandela’s funeral on tv in the early 90s but he didn’t die till 2013.

*@LulaMay17* read up on natural greenhouse effect vs human enhanced greenhouse effect. Humans are massively contributing to global warming. It’s not a conspiracy.

There is a podcast about Walkers switching the packets of salt and vinegar and cheese and onion. Lots of people remember this happening but there is no evidence it did.

I remember learning there were 52 states.

@emmylousings, I think with the Pentagon the conspiracy theory is that it was attacked by a missile as part of a military coup and that 9/11 was an attempt by the army to take over the USA. I’m not arguing for this myself, that’s just the explanation I have read.

I spent some time looking into the Avril Lavigne conspiracy, and I thought that might have some truth in it

Michael Stone didnt kill Lin and Megan Russell. Friends husband in the police force say it's a widely known fact amongst the police in that area and his prison that he is innocent. A lot of evidence points to Levi Bellfield

I met someone who claimed he had been kidnapped and drugged by MI5 (? I think) and held and cross-examined for 12 hours because they believed he had seen/knew something about Diana's death.

Having him tell me all this was terrifying, as he was absolutely steadfast in his story. Personally I later came to the conclusion he was delusional (there were other signs at the time).

LulaMay17 nothing in your post actually defends or supports the list you've offered as alleged proof of this "fact." I notice you've ignored most of my points, eg the fact the climate change-denier blog lists the exec of an energy company and multiple politicians as "scientists who disagree with climate change."

If you have any proof then please post it. An uncited list of "scientists" who allegedly have made statements indicating scepticism of issues related to climate change models is by far from "proof climate change is fake FACT!!!!"

Wikipedia operates on a democratic model, and the process for deleting pages is clearly laid out. The issue of whether or not to delete that particular post was put to a public vote, and the majority voted that it should be deleted due to lack of proper citations and bias. It is simply not by any stretch of the imagination "censorship" for a peer-run website to hold a vote and decide they personally don't want to host a particular page; a page that as you've demonstrated is hosted on multiple other sites.

Who exactly is censoring you? We're debating right now, aren't we? No one is deleting or censoring your posts?

And surely you're "we're all being silenced!!" contradicts your "here's a bigass list of top scientists who have publicly stated that climate change isn't real."

Either dozens and dozens of scientists are on the record as saying climate change isn't real, or everyone is being silenced. Not both.
