To ask what conspiracy theories you actually believe are true?

Following on from the thread where OP was looking for conspiracy theories for her kids to look at, I was wondering whether anyone actually believes any of the outlandish conspiracies.

We’ve all read about how people believe that Elvis didn’t die/Paul McCartney did die/the royals are all lizards/the earth is flat. But I’ve never encountered anyone who actually believes any of them, only people who talk about people who (apparently) believe in them.

So, what conspiracies do you actually believe and why?

Diana Spencer was only called Lady Diana until the age of 19. After that she was called Princess Diana until she died at the age of 36. I think it's just the foreign press which carry on calling her Lady Diana, or 'Lady Dee'

Wasn't it Lady Die? If that wasn't a sign... Shock Grin

Rockinmomma · 28/01/2021 13:16

@stella139 I never watched ‘Leaving never land’ however I have watched the counter story called ‘Square One’ on YouTube
If I go into detail here I’ll be called batshit crazy but a lot of the conspiracy surround Michael Jackson ties in with Epstein, Weinstein, Sony and this elite paedophile ring

PurpleRainDancer · 28/01/2021 13:17

@Bouledeneige

At the time Diana died she was not hugely popular with the press or general public. Look up the headlines before her death. The tabloid press was having a field day criticising her gallivanting round the med with friends and her boyfriend, sponging off her rich pals in a manner not befitting an ex princess and a mother. She was said to be embarrassing herself and her children.

Her death deified her and saved her reputation.

Well I bet she was relieved about her reputation then Hmm
Dexy1957 · 28/01/2021 13:18

I was watching 911 live on CNN saw the fighter planes being sent up. The reporter at the time said where are they going? And he said they won't let the plane hit the pentagon. I've never seen any footage of it on the television since

Lweji · 28/01/2021 13:18

This why I mainly reserve judgement on things that sound bonkers even if it is utterly unlikely, in the political sphere especially. Following the money usually sorts the wheat from the chaff.

Fair enough. But it usually doesn't take that long and evidence starts mounting from reputable sources fairly quickly. Unlike the most out there theories.

medebourne · 28/01/2021 13:19

TK Max
Harvey Wallbanger
Bill Dando
The Mars Landings

All conspiracies. I've done my research.

Why do we witter on with a group of strangers about things which have no bearing on our lives.

Do you really not think they have a bearing on your life when strict (some would say oppressive) laws and regulations are brought in as a direct result of an event that many believe doesn't quite ring true?

The FBI have admitted to using "gullible" and sometimes even the less we educated or otherwise challenged to engineer terrorism plots then take them down at the last minute. It has been speculated that the 7/7 terrorists were recruited for an exercise that followed through.

Have you noticed how terrorists are always 'known to MI5'?

Also, there are a lot of very strange circumstances indeed surrounding the killing of Brazilian electrician Jean Charles de Menezes.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 28/01/2021 13:19

Ooh another one.

Film maker David Crowley who apparently was a family annihilator. So much doesn't add up with that one, but is most likely sloppy investigation and the consequence of rushing to judgement.

I just read of the Wayfair conspiracy! Bloody hell and worse!
I can get drawn into some of the theories and find myself thinking yes I can see some points in what the theorists say but whatever is true or not I know we as mere mortals can be fed all kinds of tripe by leaders and other bare faced liars so how are we meant to know the truth from fiction unless it is glaringly obvious, which it often is not.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 28/01/2021 13:21

Agreed @WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll.

The apparent bungling of such operations baffles me sometimes.
@Hammonds
From my limited experience, I think flat earthism has a deep psychological aspect. Deep down they know it’s BS, but it’s like they love having something totally “out there” to believe in and they love the community/club/religion that goes with it. In many cases it’s less conspiracy or symptom of being off your rocker and more crazy new religion/society for the bored and mischievous. Just my take.
I've thought about this quite a bit - it seems off the wall. And it's annoying, because I can never know for myself. I can't fly into outer space to check that the earth is a globe.

But, in the same breath, every thing we have ever been taught about earth is that it is round. But it is second hand information. And at the moment I am learning that a lot, maybe too much, of what we are being taught, is second hand information.

Flat earth falls apart for me because what about all the other planets? Are they flat too or are we the Discworld outlier? Show me the turtles!!!!

Absolutely don't believe for one minute that Diana's death was accidental.

I have a family member whose previous work and connections make him extremely well placed to make an educated call, and he is absolutely convinced it was British security services.

Nandakanda · 28/01/2021 13:27

Sorry - Jeffrey Epstein.

If you’re going to be pernickety about her name then she was never actually called Princess Diana at any point in her life.
WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/01/2021 13:29

What did Joan Rivers assert? I know she made a (very unfunny) joke about the Obamas before she died - is that what you're referring to?

That's it - she said that Michele was a man. The thing that really got me, though, was how seriously, humourlessly and matter-of-factly she said it - the woman who would never shy away from finding very dark humour in just about anything and her trademark "Ah, come on, now" to deflect the shocked reactions when she crossed a line.

There's a short clip somewhere on YT where Obama refers to "Myself and Michael", but there's no proof that he was actually referring to his wife.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 28/01/2021 13:29

The Wayfair conspiracy. It’s plain odd. It does seem strange

MolyHolyGuacamole · 28/01/2021 13:30

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

I'm not entirely convinced Epstein killed himself, but willing to be contradicted by someone who knows more about that type of injury.
Absolutely.

But I also don't think he was murdered. I think he is living his best life on a remote island somewhere.

Lweji · 28/01/2021 13:30

every thing we have ever been taught about earth is that it is round. But it is second hand information. And at the moment I am learning that a lot, maybe too much, of what we are being taught, is second hand information.

You can go to the beach and look at ships disappearing into the horizon.
You can also go on a plane, take your compass with you, and circle the Earth. Or even take your own boat.
With some effort, you can build a high altitude balloon, attach a camera and take photos. phys.org/news/2017-01-students-breathtaking-curvature-earth-high-altitude.html

How much first hand information do we need and how much do we, realistically, can get? Waste of time.

I’m 100% going back to my flat earther mate with this. I can see Mars from my house on a clear night through my kids telescope! It’s round!!
MolyHolyGuacamole · 28/01/2021 13:31

@Wagsandclaws

I don't think that Brittany Murphy died of natural causes, or her husband who died in exactly the same way a few months later.
I definitely thought it was mould in their apartment? What do you think happened?
