To ask what conspiracy theories you actually believe are true?

Following on from the thread where OP was looking for conspiracy theories for her kids to look at, I was wondering whether anyone actually believes any of the outlandish conspiracies.

We’ve all read about how people believe that Elvis didn’t die/Paul McCartney did die/the royals are all lizards/the earth is flat. But I’ve never encountered anyone who actually believes any of them, only people who talk about people who (apparently) believe in them.

So, what conspiracies do you actually believe and why?

What do people think about the Michael Jackson conspiracy?

A couple of years ago I watched a documentary that explained that past a certain temperature aluminium becomes explosive and as aeroplane bodies are mostly made of aluminium to keep them light and one of the planes ended up lodged on a high up floor of one of the towers it made sense that when it exploded the force of it brought the whole tower down.

I saw this too. Thought it was also interesting, then, that the tower which the planes didn't hit (WTC) collapsed in a very similar way, and wasn't included in the initial investigation....

JimmyCarrsParting · 28/01/2021 12:39

(WTC7, that is)

Yes the tower that just exploded for no apparent reason and wasn’t really discussed.

Which one?

This has been entertaining. I commend everyone for successfully aiding me in housework avoidance for so long today.

I think Marilyn Monroe was murdered.

Diana's death is interesting because in North America on the Sat eve (30th Aug 1997) the news on the TV was reporting that Diana had been injured but that Dodi had been killed (see CNN clips from that date reporting the incident) but in the UK we woke up on Sun 31st Aug to radios/TVs all reporting that she'd died in the car crash. So I don't know if the initial reports in North America were wrong or the latter UK reports. I guess we'll never know. But Diana didn't necessarily die in the actual crash.
We used to get the Observer on a Sunday morning. That day, it said on the front page that they had been a car accident, that Dodi and the driver were dead, Diana was injured and the bodyguard had minor injuries. It might even have been that Diana had minor injuries and the bodyguard was unhurt.

I assumed from that description that one side of the car had taken all the impact.

I felt embarrassed at putting the telly on to find out how Diana was, I wasn't sure it was important enough a story to be on telly. I was astonished to hear she had in fact died because initial reporting really hadn't prepared me.

For sheer batshittery I was agog at the QAnon one about how the Kennedy who went down in his plane with his wife and sister was going to return to save the day for Trump having faked his own death. Followed that until it damp squibbed into embarrassment all round....

That was the whole purpose of the thread, Spider THEY are watching you and there are reasons why it is in THEIR interests to stop you doing housework. We're actually all the same person in this thread Wink

This thread is batshit (I'm loving it!), but I think the rhesus negative = aliens/a different species is possibly the most batshit of all. That's just basic reproductive genetics FFS. The duplication of DNA during meiosis is not a perfect/foolproof process, genes get deleted, mutations can happen - the process is designed to provide genetic variation within the gametes (e.g. recombination and independent assortment). I genuinely don't understand what's so hard to grasp. It's part how evolution (eventually) occurs!

This is quite an interesting read (non-Wiki): www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2535884/

Had never heard of the Wayfair one - hope it’s not true though

Considering the alleged "victims" of the wayfair conspiracy have been found alive, safe and at their family homes (one's even posted on social media) I'd say it's safe to say it's not true.

I think a lot of the conspiracies with government/secret service involvement (especially the US) probably have an element truth to them.

Some actual real life and confirmed government projects come straight from the realms of conspiracy theory.

MK Ultra - mind control experiments with the government testing mind bending drugs on unsuspecting soldiers/government workers without their consent.

MK Niaomi - biological warfare projects that looked into how to store materials that could either incapacitate or kill a test subject and to develop devices for the diffusion of such materials.

The syphilis experiments - deliberately infecting soldiers/prostitutes/civilians/people with mental health issues and prisoners with syphilis (and other stds) to study their effects without their consent. This was done twice (Tuskegee and Guatemala).

The various funding projects of rebel/insurgency groups around the world and the illegal sale of arms to support them. Nicaraguan, Afghanistan, Colombia, Kosovo, Tibet etc.

Operation paperclip - pardoning and secretly bringing in over 1000 nazi scientists , engineers and medical personnel to work in the government.

Project sunshine - secretly stealing bodies and tissue of the atomic bomb victims to study the effects of radiation.

And that's just a few.

The Moon landings? Hmmm. Look into how many US astronauts died at a young age because of random and bizarre accidents. Of course they would love fast cars etc but as a group they would have to have been spectacularly unlucky... or maybe they weren't happy to keep quiet?

Oh FFS. What about the hundreds of others that would have to have been involved? Were they all killed too? By your logic, working at NASA in the 60s, you must have had the life expectancy of a gerbil!

You can FFS all you like. I'm just stating an actual fact - which I notice that you are not disagreeing with by the way.

Ok, I wasn't going to disagree about astronaut death rates, because I didn't know that much about it. I was arguing about the possibility of keeping things quiet. But now I've done some research, I'll argue now.

Yes, astronaut s have a higher likelihood of dying in an accident than the general public. But it's only 2.5 times higher. And this includes those that died in accidents such as Challenger, where several died at once. More importantly, the US and Russian astronaut deaths are not very different. So either the Russians were killing off their astronauts too, or there was nothing sinister going on.

@Arobase

It didn't really happen in the full glare of the world's press because it was 1997 and there wasn't so much 24 hr news. Family in North America heard she'd been injured (but was alive) whereas in the UK we heard she'd actually died in the crash. This is fact. I've managed to find a copy of CNN news from the early hours of the crash - it backs up that she was reported as injured (compared to Dodi) during the early reports in N America

So Diana didn't necessarily die in the crash and not many people know this. How or why and whose orders I've no idea!

I remember vividly waking up to see a headline in the Sunday Times saying Diana had been injured and Dodi had been killed. It was only when I turned on the radio that I found out she had died.

I don't think anyone thought she actually died in the crash, did they? It was well documented that the French ambulance crew worked on her at the scene and then took her to hospital, and indeed that that delay may have been a contributory factor. In fact the first line of the Wikipedia entry says she died in hospital.

In the first news report I watched they said she might have a broken arm, the reports of her dying came later. It wasn’t confirmed she’d died for ages. I had a chest infection and busted ribs at the time and couldn’t sleep. When I told my GPs when they got up they thought I was out of it on painkillers!

Yes where has Qanon gone? A few months ago there was massive movement about high profile celebs - Oprah, Tom Hanks, Ellen , Hillary Clinton et al all being devil worshiping child pedophiles and involved with pizza gate. Honestly there was so much. It was all supposed to be coming to an end and they were going to be revealed. Twitter was going mental and the posts on their Twitter page was awful.

One of the worst CT I read was that there was tunnels under ground where children were being bred to be sacrifices and that all the ventilators that DT had ordered were really to help these kids breath when they came back to the surface. It was really disturbing and obviously the people that were involved were really unwell

Get off this thread everybody and do something more productive which you won't regret later. I include myself in this!

Thanks for the imperious instruction, but I don't want to. Not everyone is furloughed. I'm stressed to the hilt with a huge workload from which 'productivity' requires I take frequent breaks to prevent my head exploding. And this thread is providing some much-needed light relief.

the80sweregreat · 28/01/2021 12:52

I love a conspiracy thread and one pops up nearly once a month on mumsnet.
I do believe that Aliens walk among us. I'm not sure how or why but it just wouldn't surprise me and would explain how we've come so far with technology in the last few decades.
Lots of people believe Lady Diane was murdered but I just think it was an unfortunate accident and why she didn't put her seatbelt on that day I'm not really sure.
The bbc covered up for Saville for years and allowing him to present shows aimed at young children was a real scandal. People knew , but didn't speak out , sadly.
I'm sure there are lots of things we are not allowed to know about!

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 28/01/2021 12:54

Weapons of mass destruction.

marielvanarklestinks I am not on furlough. I am working and I am writing a PhD thesis. It was a light hearted suggestion to myself that I should get off the thread. Not an order! I also said I have enjoyed reading and posting on it.

Ah yes @Hammonds, sounds alot like this.

Bizarre thing is I read a novel in the 80s or 90s with this exact plot which I can't recall the name of.

Pretty off the map!
