To ask what conspiracy theories you actually believe are true?

Following on from the thread where OP was looking for conspiracy theories for her kids to look at, I was wondering whether anyone actually believes any of the outlandish conspiracies.

We’ve all read about how people believe that Elvis didn’t die/Paul McCartney did die/the royals are all lizards/the earth is flat. But I’ve never encountered anyone who actually believes any of them, only people who talk about people who (apparently) believe in them.

So, what conspiracies do you actually believe and why?

The Joshua Molnar case is interesting because it’s not so much a conspiracy as plain old-fashioned corruption.

I, too, think there’s a pusher serial killer in Manchester.

MintyMabel · 28/01/2021 11:48

No plane debris, or entry points to the building caused by the wings of a plane.

Plenty of plane debris was found. Anyone looking for a cartoon like plane shaped hole in the side of a hugely reinforced concrete building being hit by a flimsy aluminium tube has a very poor grasp of basic physics.

PeggyArmstrong · 28/01/2021 11:49

@KrisAkabusi

The Moon landings? Hmmm. Look into how many US astronauts died at a young age because of random and bizarre accidents. Of course they would love fast cars etc but as a group they would have to have been spectacularly unlucky... or maybe they weren't happy to keep quiet?

Oh FFS. What about the hundreds of others that would have to have been involved? Were they all killed too? By your logic, working at NASA in the 60s, you must have had the life expectancy of a gerbil!

You can FFS all you like. I'm just stating an actual fact - which I notice that you are not disagreeing with by the way.
SunshineXX1 · 28/01/2021 11:49

I think many people are oblivious to the way masculine institutions work, and the extent to which they’re connected.
@JesusInTheCabbageVan I'm not totally sure what you mean, but the climate is cyclic, from ice ages to global warming, everything runs on cycles. Humans have no impact on this.
Ok then. Donald, is that you?

This is interesting, @MintyMabel. How come the flimsy aluminium tubes sliced straight through the steel of the two WTC towers?

@covetingthepreciousthings

Ooh great thread.

I spent some time looking into the Avril Lavigne conspiracy, and I thought that might have some truth in it Grin

because i have a ton of work to do today and am just stalling - what is the Avril Lavigne conspiracy?
medebourne · 28/01/2021 11:53

This is a really interesting study!

What does the conclusion mean though?

It is our conclusion that the collapse of WTC 7 was a global failure involving the nearsimultaneous failure of all columns in the building and not a progressive collapse involving the
sequential failure of columns throughout the building
.

What caused the simultaneous failure of the columns?

I don't think this study was intended to offer alternative explanations. It was just to scientifically evaluate the possibilities, including the official account (which was not backed by the data).
WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/01/2021 11:56

Can't say how I know but the theories about 9/11 and moon landing are just insulting to those very skilled people, to their country and to those who died in 9/11.

But I haven't heard of a single theory suggesting that the people didn't actually die - just as to who orchestrated it. It was without question perpetrated as a result of a grand conspiracy, but which 'side' were responsible for the conspiracy?

Supposing somebody murdered one of your loved ones and Person A was charged and found guilty of it; if new evidence came to light to strongly suggest that Person A might not have done it and/or that Person B might well have instead been responsible, would you find it disrespectful to consider that you might want to find out who actually killed them - or would you just think that, as long as we have somebody for it, it's unnecessary and upsetting to consider any perceived leads suggesting that they may indeed be innocent? Moreover, how would you feel if, instead, Person A was your relative instead of the person who had been murdered?

That said, I do think there is more to the JFK assassination. I don't think it was related to any political party though.

That makes no sense when juxtaposed with your other statement, though! Aren't you also guilty of insulting and upsetting JFK's family by doubting the official findings?!

This whole thread is an embarrassment to Mumsnet. Catch yourselves on , people
Really?

Who made you the Mumsnet hall moniter?

If you don't want to give your brain a workout why even post on this thread?

Saab9x · 28/01/2021 11:59

@NinaMimi

I think with Sandy Hook people just don’t want to believe they live in a world where that can happen. Though anyone with sense would understand that in a country with widespread gun use you’ll get the occasional nutcase who will kill innocent people.

But to them they get some comfort in wishing it away. The sick side effect is that it affects those families in such a deep way. Imagine your child dying and some people threatening you saying they never existed. It’s beyond cruelty. And I suppose the father who killed himself was just an actor too? Sick.

Do they get comfort in harassing the families too?
LemonSwan · 28/01/2021 12:00

I love the silly ones. They are so entertaining. Like the Avril Lavigne one. I dont believe them but in my boredom sometimes search them and have a good laugh.

The serious ones on the other hand are pretty distressing. I dont really believe the conspiracies but they do leave a little niggle. Its something about the imagery of 7/7 and 9/11 targeting iconic symbols of our culture. The NY skyline, the Red Bus, the London Underground. It all seemed a bit too well thought out like they were designed by a marketing agency.

I also remember the day of 7/7 because my family were all in London. A police man came on the news and was completely naive to what he was saying about how impressed he was that they were already briefed and assembled before hand for a test at the exact locations only for there to be an actual terrorist attack. Calling it good luck.

I struggle also to believe we have no CCTV of the terrorists on the underground.

A good few years after I went on the Mi5 recruitment and they were looking for photoshop specialists.

So its nots that I believe the conspiracies but there is a little niggle.

medebourne · 28/01/2021 12:02

We're not really giving our brains a workout though are we? We're frittering away our time staring at a keyboard being sucked into things which have no bearing on our lives.

In the meantime we're putting of fthings we should be doing (work, engaging with DCs) or even things we actually enjoy doing like speaking to friends, exercising or reading a book.

I include myself in this. Engaging in conspiracy theories is really not 'research' or expanding our knowledge it's a displacement activity.

sashh · 28/01/2021 12:02

So, I think it is reasonable to possibly think that, yes, there were moon landings but these were not crewed. People say it would have been impossible to fake as so many people involved but, really, how many would have been involved with the transmission of the pictures/sound? Not that many.

Quite a few and in different countries. As I said up thread, the signal from the moon went to Australia.

Tracking had to be done from various points because the earth rotates so Australia, the US and Spain tracked the Apollo ships.

Can anyone who thinks the moon landings were faked tell me was Apollo 13 faked too? Why?

LemonSwan · 28/01/2021 12:02

Thats the MI5 website not some recruitment day / event. Sorry wasnt clear.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/01/2021 12:04

Back to Savile, does nobody else think it possibly a little odd that an eccentric (and creepy) bachelor BBC DJ was not just a close friend of Charles, but was actually considered an adviser/counsellor to Charles and Diana on their many marital issues? How would their circles even have crossed in the first place.

Even more bizarre, Savile spent Christmas day with Margaret and Denis Thatcher at their home, every year for a decade or more.

It wasn't just a case of shaking hands at a massive charity event - they were very close friends.

KarensChoppyBob · 28/01/2021 12:04

but why has Ghislaine Maxwell not been silenced permanently yet?

One alleged 'suicide' is one thing, another convenient death of a witness? no way could they avoid suspicion after that.

Daftasabroom · 28/01/2021 12:06

@PeggyArmstrong all tall buildings are steel framed. Steel loses strength and stiffness as temperature increases. At 500C many steels only have 50% of their strength. WTC fire protection was not as rigorous at it would be today. This is the biggest single factor in the collapse of the buildings.

There's obviously lots of other elements but that's the night.

Boltonb · 28/01/2021 12:07

David Kelly’s death wasn’t suicide.

Diana’s death was plotted by Prince Phillip

Not convinced about the moon landings

Had never heard of the Wayfair one - hope it’s not true though

NewCatMummy · 28/01/2021 12:07

I can’t see why the recent royal pregnancies would need to be assisted conceptions but they clearly would have had every genetic test
and detailed scan known to make sure the babies were healthy- it’s ludicrous to suggest they didn’t know George was a boy. They probably knew his hair and eye colour!

Oooohbehave · 28/01/2021 12:09

I think Jill Dando was assassinated to shut her up because she knew too much about Jimmy Saville and possibly the others too.

Hammonds · 28/01/2021 12:09

@MistressoftheDarkSide

Well... that beats the Simpson episode of Trump becoming POTUS. Fantastic Grin
MistressoftheDarkSide · 28/01/2021 12:13

With 9/11 and 7/7 I did find it a bit odd they were conducting real time exercises around eerily similar scenarios when the real thing kicked off. Once is a coincidence but twice? Hmmmm

MistressoftheDarkSide · 28/01/2021 12:14

I love the time travelling Trump one though, glad it made you smile @Hammonds
