Inspired by the white bag thread, it just got me curious. I’m not a journo! Although, I suppose that’s what a journalist would say.. Grin

Have you / do you take drugs? What did you take and why did you?

I’ll be honest and go first, I occassinally use MDMA and I do use coke on nights. But I don’t have kids and I’d stop as soon as I was having them

Sorry, I was guilty of talking to you in an unpleasant manner. It's not fair of me to take my lousy day out on fellow mumsnetters, and I apologise for pushing you into irritated qualifying.[/quote]
Thank you.

Sorry you are having a bad day. Tomorrow is a new day and I hope it's a better one for you x

Yeah pretty much everything in my late teens to mid 20s.

The last thing I took was some kind of hallucinogenic, I thought it was speed. It was not. I was off my head for 24 hours. That was about 15 years ago.

I think the thing with drugs is you’re either the type to develop a problem or you’re not.
Same with drink, smoking, gambling etc.

I’ve never had an addictive side, I could take or leave it. Enjoyed coke on a night out but wouldn’t sit at home doing lines. It was social, part of the times.

I some times think now I’d love to have a joint. But I don’t smoke as wouldn’t dream of having it around my kids. So it probably won’t happen.

Maybe when me and DP retire, travel the world and find ourselves in a hippy commune or the Caribbean and decide sod it let’s get stoned.

@TeeBee

Nope never. I have a full and interesting life. I find drug takers a bit pathetic to be honest.
Hmm
BaubleBubble · 30/01/2021 22:16

No. I remember the first time I ever heard of the existence of drugs. A bereaved mother came to our primary school and spoke, after her daughter tragically died from an e-tab. It was very emotional and has stayed with me 30 years later.

As a (sheltered!) child and teenager I only ever heard about drugs in the context of people dying, so I never dreamt of trying it and I would still be terrified at the thought.

DwangelaForever · 30/01/2021 22:30

I sniffed a popper at a gay bar before lolol I don't even know why!!

I've never taken any drugs but I've been around people who take drugs recently and I can't cope with how normalised it is these days. I'm talking about coke in particular. I find it so vile.

Notimeforaname · 31/01/2021 00:00

Ahhh poppers Grin forgot about those

Karen138 · 11/02/2021 23:55

@prawntoastie

Weed - made me lazy Molly - was a happy feeling like bsif drunk but I couldn't sober up with food Coke - hate it... Make you sociable but you cannot stop your heart beating Estasy - same as molly

That's it, don't smoke or take drugs, I just like alcohol. I cannot stand not being control of my body

The reason Molly and ecstasy feel the same is because they are both the same drug - 3,4 methylenedioxymethamphetamine.
DustyMaiden · 12/02/2021 00:07

No never

SheeshazAZ09 · 12/02/2021 00:13

No never, and never smoked or drank either. Sounds as if I’ve had a boring life but actually it’s been very varied and often exciting. Just not interested in being out of control/off my head.

Yip, from 89-99, ended up with some pretty bad mental health issues that took quite a while to repair.
Fortunately for me, the brain is healed and abstinence means all is well with the world.
Sex on drugs popular at the time was quite an experience, some sessions lasted for days.Shock

1forAll74 · 18/12/2021 14:13

I have never done drugs, and can never see the need to take them at all. There is enough knowledge about, to see what drugs can do to your mind and body if all becomes an addiction. Serious druggies, then become other people's problems as well.

WeeWeeWeeeee · 18/12/2021 14:17

Never have. No interest. Never smoked or been ‘properly’ drunk either. I don’t feel I’ve missed out.

BirdyBirdyTweetTweet · 18/12/2021 15:56

No. And never ever have I.

Buddhabowl · 18/12/2021 16:08

Did a bit of marijuana as a teenager. At 23 I tried coke and mdma and did them regularly (coke fortnightly probably and mdma less often) for the next 7 years till I got pregnant. Also took pills at festivals. Haven't touched anything since. I think coke is a slippery slope and I've seen it ruin so many lives.

Boogaloony · 18/12/2021 16:18

I'm an ex cocaine addict but haven't touched it in years. Recently come to discover magic mushrooms and how amazing they can be for mental health issues. I've started a small cultivation for several strains and recently had my first proper Harvest. I'm only micro dosing but the difference in just a few weeks is per amazing tbh. I've pretty much knocked my seasonal affective disorder on the head and an awake never my alarm even goes off some mornings. My bipolar is more stable and I feel more connected and just kind of "at peace". Absolutely amazing that half a gram of a totally organic mushroom every 3-4 days can do that in just 3 weeks.

But it's a class A drug . I swing between feeling terrible for breaking the law by growing it and feeling delighted that this is the first thing that has ever helped me and it has absolutely zero side effects.

AD80 · 18/12/2021 17:48

I think I'm in the minority but never for me. I just didn't want to try any, not even once. I don't give into peer pressure easily. I haven't even tried smoking before and don't drink much these days. I have been called a goody two shoes before but I grew up witnessing so much shit to do with addiction.

I have been in situations where it could have been easy to be led astray too.

When I was 18 I had a boyfriend who was a coke head when drinking (relationship didn't last long) . He was never one to encourage me to do it himself but his friends who also did it were a bit pushy like 'go on, try it' 'you won't know until you've tried'. I just wasn't interested. I understand it's not that easy for others to say no when being pressurised but I've a very fierce person and you don't cross me when I say no 😅 I've been at a house party full of people who were sniffing coke and I was not giving in, ever!

I was gutted when my best friend met a boyfriend who got her into coke. Thankfully it was a passing phase for her but her boyfriend was an ass for encouraging her.

My Dp who I've been with for 10 years did experiment in his younger years when out drinking. He gave in easily to peer pressure. But he's never took drugs in the 10 years we've been together.

I grew up with a relative who was heavily reliant and addicted to strong pain killer meds and would dapple in illegal drugs too. It's not nice to see.

I've not been sheltered from it but I've never been tempted.

Also, grew up with people heavily dependent on alcohol. I did drink a little when younger but don't at all now!

toconclude · 18/12/2021 17:49

Never. I like my brain chemistry just the way it is, thanks.

scarpa · 18/12/2021 18:09

Yes.

Have smoked weed, but never really liked it.

Pills at occasional festivals/Warehouse Project over the years.

Coke semi-regularly (once every 2 months?) in my mid-20s on nights out, and less regularly these days (early 30s), maybe 2 times a year - usually work-related as it's very common in my industry.

Also no kids, wouldn't if I did (but not planning on any either).

FakingMemories · 18/12/2021 18:27

Only the legal ones: marijuana, alcohol, nicotine (once).

Husband is a former heroin addict who got hepatitis from a shared needle. It almost killed him. He was also addicted to meth and cocaine but clean now. He has permanent damage from his 25+ years of drug use and promotes awareness among young people about the dangers.

Spidey66 · 18/12/2021 18:31

Cannabis occasionally. I only did it socially e.g. at a party and there was some going round, or on trips to Amsterdam. Wouldn't go out searching for it, but would probably still join in if it was going round tbh.

Tried speed once (did enjoy it but not conedown) and E twice, which did sod all.

Spidey66 · 18/12/2021 18:33

Oh tried poppers once, liked it.

Tiramesu · 18/12/2021 18:34

Weed brownie. I had a slice, couldn't feel any difference, thought, 'mm, nice brownie', so had another slice and toddled off to bed. Woke up middle of the night raving for an ambulance, convinced my partner was trying to kill me (he was trying to console me), speaking in this weird flat monotone shout, crawling along the hallway, refusing to drag myself into the bathroom and spending the rest of the night consequently lying in a puddle of my own vomit on the floor. Horrendous psychotic and paralysing experience. I've never done drugs before and never would since, don't think I have the kind of brain that would have a happy experience
