Inspired by the white bag thread, it just got me curious. I’m not a journo! Although, I suppose that’s what a journalist would say.. Grin

Have you / do you take drugs? What did you take and why did you?

I’ll be honest and go first, I occassinally use MDMA and I do use coke on nights. But I don’t have kids and I’d stop as soon as I was having them

When I was younger I used to all the time, Im glad I've been experimental, I've had so much fun and don't regret it. I'm not going to lie I still do occasionally when I'm out. I love going to raves, it's my favourite thing to do! I've tried weed, mushrooms, truffles, ecstacy, mdma, ketamine, coke, 2CB etc.

So many people saying they have never done any drugs... But in real life it seems like everyone has done drugs or does do drugs? Why the big difference on mumsnet? If you go on a night out cocaine is everywhere or to a music event or festival it's hard to not get offered drugs? And what about being a teenager when drugs are everywhere?
I've never seen or been offered drugs. I'm 30 and had a pretty active social life before kids. I have no idea what anything looks like or where I would even begin to source them if I wanted.
mamaweebeastie · 27/01/2021 16:40

I'm my late teens & 20's I took E's, speed, coke, mushrooms and weed. I had the best time of my life and don't regret it. Iv been a daily weed smoker for 20 odd years but only have 1 or 2 joints a night since becoming a mum. When Dd is at her dads I do smoke more but use it as a reward system- tidy a room have a few tokes then onto the next task.

Alcoholism kills more people than all the drugs combined.

It's not just about mortality, it's about the broader socioeconomic impact related to drug use. Human trafficking/modern slavery related to county lines activity is one aspect but there's also the impact on society from theft, burglary, robbery, violence etc that causes misery to so many people.

scentedgeranium · 27/01/2021 16:48

@ComtesseDeSpair I was kind of joking about 'normal'. But the point about naivety stands. Don't know if you saw the (rather funny) thread about the accidental posting of a bag of powder through the wrong door, but there were many accusations of naivety and actually quite weird stealth boasts about how 'drugs never did me any harm/hey I was wild'. I read it and thought huh? Am I so very out of synch with society? I don't feel quite so out of synch now. And good for you for enjoying what you do and take. As you imply, it's horses for courses. I'm obviously more of a low-flying plodder Grin

Pinkmarsh · 27/01/2021 16:55

Nope never been tempted. Being a teen in the 90’s, everyone was taking E’s but it’s just not something that appealed.

Nonamesavail · 27/01/2021 16:55

Never

There's plenty of theft, burglary, robbery and violence where alcohol's concerned. A and Es at weekends are usually full of the results of the latter (in normal times). This has a massive impact on the NHS alone.

People steal booze and also the means to buy it when they're alcoholics without the money to buy it themselves.

iwishiwasapunk · 27/01/2021 17:42

Back in the day from about 18-20 I took basically anything going - coke, ecstasy, mdma, ketamine, speed, weed, moonshine, acid, triple c's. It was a fun but weird time.

Nowadays I take coke the odd occasion - when having a drink with friends. Have tried weed a few times over the last few years and it just makes me paranoid.

Don't regret my drug use, just thankful I was lucky and nothing went wrong, glad I had the experiences but glad it's all behind me now and certainly won't be telling my daughter if she ever asks.

'Mum have you ever taken drugs?' - hard no!

Bedforme · 27/01/2021 17:47

No

mistletoeandsigh · 27/01/2021 17:52

Cannabis as a teenager. And I tried coke later. I don't take any drugs now and haven't in about 15 years, I'm 40

I have done some drugs as a youngster but not too much. I had a couple of groups of friends who smoked weed so got it from them and had 2 friends who I did poppers with.

In the almost 20 years since I left university I have only known one friend who smokes a bit of weed now and have smoked it once or twice when we visit him. No one else I know does it. I spent a good few years going out every weekend in Nottingham in my 20s and we all just got drunk, no one was doing coke or anything else and we'd go to a late bar that opened until 3 or 4 instead of smoking weed afterwards.

It's just who you know. I was a massive geek in the 90s at school and none of my friends did drugs (or smoked or drank) and we wouldn't have a clue how to get hold of it.

IcyApril · 27/01/2021 18:08

When I was at university my house peer group all smoked cannabis a lot and occasionally did a few other things, maybe once or twice a year. I didn’t like cannabis, I did coke once and that was it.

About 8-10 years on (late 20s), I used MDMA at a festival. I loved it. I now understand why a lot of others there did it. The feeling it gave me was great.

I’ve never done them again. Not long after I had children so that was my experimentation period over.

IcyApril · 27/01/2021 18:10

I can honestly say that I don’t believe my school/sixth form had that many drug users. Equally I can say I was also very naive about its prevalence as well and I was often oblivious to it being in places it was.

Pedallleur · 27/01/2021 18:45

No. But then I don't drink or smoke. Drugs don't come with a refund or any quality control. You take them at your own risk. Can become an expensive or life threatening habit. But first taste is always free. Also they come with a package of misery behind them

Garlicinyoursoul · 27/01/2021 18:47

I don’t use them now, and never have before.
I’d like to possibly try weed to see how it’d work on me, the rest I’m not even remotely interested in.

Might be the case in your real life but it's not mine. I have a group of 8 friends. Only I and one other has ever done drugs and mine was just weed. (And being spiked) I also used to go out to nightclubs every single Wednesday (70's night, never to be missed!) Friday and Saturday from 16 to 22 and didn't ever get offered drugs. Maybe I was hanging out with the not so wrong crowd? Same at T in the park and smaller festivals I was dragged to by my best friend. Hell, I recall being thrown about a Mosh pit in a Manchester nightclub and not a single offer of drugs anywhere.
OnceIWasAnApe · 27/01/2021 18:51

Mushrooms healed me in so, so many ways. The most intense, self-reflective and spiritual experience I've ever had. I don't drink or smoke, no other drugs. But I'm quite evangelical about mushrooms.

Wouldratherbeanywhereelse · 27/01/2021 19:00

I’m surprised by the amount of people who’ve not tried any/many drugs too.
I’m from a nice area, suburbs, it was everywhere in the clubs, pubs, streets 🤷🏻‍♀️
The very very posh girls school nearby was the worst, in terms of lots of coke etc, they were wild and the less pricey parts there was still lots of weed and drink.

Onairjunkie · 27/01/2021 19:08

Literally anything going back in the day. Favourites were acid, weed and a bit of blow. Nothing now. I have responsibilities and wouldn’t want it to come out. Wouldn’t change it though. It was fun.

79andnotout · 27/01/2021 19:09

I think to some extent it depends what kind of music you were into. If you were heading out to a student 80s night, or an indie night, you're unlikely to be necking pills, just drinking lots of cheap drinks. If you're going out for some Psy-Trance, if you're not on some hallucinogens you're going to be having a very different experience to the rest of the crowd. All night techno rave? You'll need some ecstasy or just a good amount of stamina. I went to all of these, with different groups of friends, and medicated accordingly. Psytrance really is balls, though, I never understood it.

Distiller91 · 27/01/2021 19:13

Weed, MDMA, coke, etc during uni. I had an absolute ball to be fair but i appreciate i was lucky nothing went wrong and i could leave it alone after those mad years.

JFCO · 27/01/2021 19:31

Have taken ecstasy and smoked spliffs when younger, but nothing for about 15y. Wouldn't even take anything if offered now- you need to be with your lovely friends, good music, AND YOU NEED TO BE YOUNG AND FREE FROM ALL RESPONSIBILITIES.

Cokeycokecoke · 27/01/2021 19:45

NC.

I’m currently off my tits on coke.unfortunately I relapsed last year after 18 years clean.

Even more unfortunately I’ve found a dealer on line who posts it to me...

I’m late 40s.

potatopot · 27/01/2021 19:50

In my teens and twenties - ecstasy, weed, speed, coke, LSD. Then nothing for 20 years...weed and mushrooms have been helping with lockdown.
