Inspired by the white bag thread, it just got me curious. I’m not a journo! Although, I suppose that’s what a journalist would say.. Grin

Have you / do you take drugs? What did you take and why did you?

I’ll be honest and go first, I occassinally use MDMA and I do use coke on nights. But I don’t have kids and I’d stop as soon as I was having them

OP posts:
Bagelsandbrie · 28/01/2021 17:52

None. Ever. Never smoked either. But - I have a lot of alcoholism in my family (mum, dad and Gran) and when I worked in a pub as a late teen I probably drank enough to kill myself ten times over so I can’t really lecture anyone about anything. That carried on until I was about 25.

Crinklesmile · 28/01/2021 18:27

I love a smoke occasionally. Either dirt pot or green, probably a couple times a month if that

letsnotscaretheneighbours · 28/01/2021 20:32

Interesting what posters are saying about morphine because I was given it when diagnosed with meningitis for the pain and all I remember was thinking 'this is shit'. Did not touch the pain in the slightest. Can't tell you how disappointed I was 🤣 Mind at the time I had come to the conclusion I was going to die so maybe I just wasn't in the right place.

RootyT00t · 28/01/2021 22:36

@DrugUse56688

I’m not promoting it- people asked me questions, I answered, and I gave reasons why I use it. That’s not promotion, it’s just the truth.

I don’t see people going on about cocaine causing heart attacks or the dangers of ecstasy yet we’re all allowed to laugh about those drugs on here

Hmm

But they don't claim tba those drugs fix their anxiety like you did, that's what I meant
GeidiPrimes · 29/01/2021 00:09

RootyT00t why do you think there's been such an increase in people addicted to substances? You disagreed with the reason I gave and said you'd give your thoughts today. I'd be interested to hear them Smile

Silvergreen · 29/01/2021 01:18

A handful of times a year these days (pre-covid) - all good fun.

ChestnutStuffing · 29/01/2021 01:31

The answer = drug legalisation

That's tricky. For one thing legalisation does not mean people will buy from legal sellers. It can easily end up meaning that it just becomes that mush easier for illegal sellers.

The assumption being made is that the illegal trade depends on artificially high prices to be attractive to criminals, and once there is competition from legal sellers they will get out of the trade.

But criminals can often offer the same products more cheaply, and illegal trade can be camouflaged by legal trade, as we see for example with prostitution. There are plenty of legal drugs where there is a significant black market. You also may find that the criminals simply legitimise their businesses, but they still have the same basic mindset and ethics.

There are al kinds of questions around liability with more dangerous drugs.

I also wouldn't assume no safety issues are implied. Since weed was legalised in Canada, there has been a huge increase in overdoses, including children and pets.

I smoke heroin.
Never used a needle, never will.

Why do you feel the need to state this? There's no difference between heroin users that inject and those that don't.

Probably because it's seen as more socially acceptable

Why do you feel the need to contribute an ill-informed comment towards someone who knows something about it? There's a big difference!
MotherQueenXeno · 29/01/2021 13:40

Used to love drugs. Had an amazing time on them and never had a bad experience. Now I am older and have kids I realised what huge risks I took and how I was lucky nothing bad ever happened to me, I was never good with moderation and used to keep going and going.

I have done most of common ones with the exception of heroin and crack cocaine. My favourite combination was MDMA and ketamine.

Lily193 · 29/01/2021 14:05

FelicityMingington Why is it ill-informed?

Tinygem · 29/01/2021 14:10

No, never smoked either, not for me.

Except there is, isn’t there? Needle-use carries many different risks.

There really is! Even amongst addicts, smokers look down on IVDU. I swore to myself I would never inject...until I did. Then I told myself I'd never share needles... you get the picture. As a species we love sorting ourselves and others into classes and hierarchies.

christmasathomeagain · 29/01/2021 20:59

Never had, never would. I drink (and a lot by some standards) but don't smoke. I'm early 40's.

LizFlowers · 29/01/2021 23:47

Drinking a lot is just as bad except that it is legal of course. I've known very heavy drinkers who have said, "At least I've never touched drugs". Piffle. What is alcohol if not a drug?

Lots of people self medicate at times; I don't advocate it but recognise that if they are careful, it will help for a while. You don't have to become an addict if you pace yourself.

JoyIsCounterfeit · 30/01/2021 16:08

@lily193 there's a world of difference between injecting and smoking, far beyond 'social acceptance' (of which there is absolutely zero for heroin users).
Risk being the first, most obvious difference. Overdose, disease, both more likely with needles.
Appreciate comments of empathy, and want to underline to @druguse56688 I was supporting you, though my comments can get a bit long!

JoyIsCounterfeit · 30/01/2021 16:09

@christmasathomeagain so you take drugs. Legality does not render booze magically undruggy.

JoyIsCounterfeit · 30/01/2021 16:20

@GeidiPrimes my diferentiating was to clarify my own experience. Though I know exactly what you're saying, and experience it, I'm definitely not one to sneer, let alone micro-sneer. From my box to yours, stay healthy.

NonagonInfinityOpensTheDoor · 30/01/2021 16:36

I smoke weed. I don’t fund trafficking because I buy from a family friend who grows it himself. Tbh I find people who drink far more boring and sloppy than people who are high. And aggressive.

christmasathomeagain · 30/01/2021 16:44
@christmasathomeagain so you take drugs. Legality does not render booze magically undruggy.
Ok I will rephrase, that probably shows my age as 'drugs' to me are cannabis, coke, opiates etc and not alcohol although I included it as I recognise many drink it to maybe get similar feelings that other people take other form of 'drugs' to achieve.

I don't and never have taken illegal drugs. I don't and never have abused prescription drugs to gain a 'high'. I don't drink most drinks with caffeine in them. I don't smoke or vape and never have done. My 'drug' of choice is alcohol.

notanothertakeaway · 30/01/2021 16:51

I drink alcohol, but have never touched illicit drugs. Never been offered any, and would be too scared anyway

TeeBee · 30/01/2021 17:00

Nope never. I have a full and interesting life. I find drug takers a bit pathetic to be honest.

JoyIsCounterfeit · 30/01/2021 19:06

Sorry, I was guilty of talking to you in an unpleasant manner. It's not fair of me to take my lousy day out on fellow mumsnetters, and I apologise for pushing you into irritated qualifying.
