Butter-what's your favourite and how much is it?

Currently on KerryGold which is £1.90 and rarely on offer. I used to buy Tesco own label but since lockdown I haven't been shopping there. We go through a 250g every couple of days due to my dcs addiction to freshly baked bread toasted and buttered.
What's your favourite?
(I don't want to get into any discussion about butter v spreadable products just want to hear good butter recommendations really).

This butter from Sainsbury's. It is salty and has a beautiful creamy taste.

Lurpak lighter.

reluctantbrit · 25/01/2021 20:27

Depends. YeoValley for unsalted which we use for breakfast and baking.

President spreadable for anything savoury.

Kerrygold or the M&S spreadable are also nice. I prefer mine to be 100% butter/cream, not a mix of butter and oil, that's taste nasty.

LazyFace · 26/01/2021 07:21

@Lookingforwardto2021

I make butter using a food processor, whipping double cream till it turns into butter
A stick blender works too.
FloconDeNeige · 26/01/2021 07:34

Demi-sel Moulé Aux Cristaux de Sel de Guérande (Paysan Breton)

But I’m on the Franco-Swiss border so can just buy it in Carrefour.

Half-salted butter from Brittany is the best.

unchienandalusia · 26/01/2021 07:49

Can't stand lurpak. Any spreadable tastes of oil to me.

General everyday butter here is two valley salted. V salty abs delicious.

So I made my own butter yesterday from fresh double cream, seasoned with sea salt flakes....better than anything I can buy and cheaper. Used the residual buttermilk in pancakes and scones... why have I never done this before ? No going back for shop bought now :-) Thanks MN

Brilliant 👍🏼

I sometimes add finely diced rosemary, or lemon zest, or paprika or even crushed rose petals in summer. It is so nice to have different flavours of homemade butter

FlatteredRhubardFool · 26/01/2021 15:51

I'm going to make butter with the dc. My exH did it years ago. He had the shaking the jar for the required length of time down to a tee seeing as he's such a wanker. I'm putting salt flakes and double cream on my shopping list.

If you ever get the opportunity to try proper Channel Islands butter (Sark, Guernsey or Alderney), it is absolutely heaven. Yellower than an egg yolk and tastes amazing. It was about £2 four years ago. Damn. Now I want some.

Confrontayshunme · 26/01/2021 16:00

Also, IMHO, unsalted butter is solidified disappointment, and its lovers must be both boring and terrible in bed.

DialSquare · 26/01/2021 16:07

We use this. £2.10 in Waitrose. I love it.

Shirgar, a nice welsh salted butter

I thought that was a horse Grin

Agree that Brittany butter's the best,, especially this one: www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CHBF_enGB854GB854&sxsrf=ALeKk03sjQ9cy8AZkWgEX6EgBVx7jWD5aQ%3A1611676982957&ei=Nj0QYLT7OZGX8gLw_KboDg&q=bordier+butter+uk&oq=bordier&gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQARgCMggIABDJAxCRAjIECAAQQzIHCAAQFBCHAjIECAAQQzIECAAQQzIOCC4QsQMQgwEQxwEQrwEyAggAMgIIADICCAAyBAguEAo6BAgjECc6BAguEEM6BQgAEJECOgcILhCxAxBDOggIABCxAxCRAjoHCAAQsQMQQzoHCC4QsQMQCjoCCC46CAguEMcBEK8BOgQIABAKOgcIABCxAxAKUOUgWLszYNtRaABwAngAgAGDAYgBxAaSAQMxLjaYAQCgAQGqAQdnd3Mtd2l6wAEB&sclient=psy-ab

It's often out of stock though, so failing that it's Normandy's Beurre d'Isigny. Costco do it in 500g blocks, and I guarantee it'll convert all those currently using President

Ferrylights · 26/01/2021 16:35

No shaking implements needed unless you want a bicep work out...I used the whisk attachment on my Kitchen Aid and 5 minutes I had a beautiful pale cream butter. So incredibly easy I can't believe I've never done it before. Will definitely try some of those flavour ideas, thanks.

FossilisedFanny · 26/01/2021 19:34

I’m going to have a go at making butter tomorrow. I only have a hand whisk but I’m wondering if I can attach it to my electric drill .

GreenSlide · 26/01/2021 20:03

Ballyrashane, it's made by a local creamery. It's around £3 per lb.

Dimples13 · 28/01/2021 20:13

Lidl - salty butter imon warm bread

Dimples13 · 28/01/2021 20:13

On*

FlatteredRhubardFool · 30/01/2021 11:35

@FossilisedFanny how did it go? I've got a big tub of double cream in the freezer and a kitchen aid mixer so I'm thinking I might give it a go later on as we are almost out of butter.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 30/01/2021 11:36

@Ferrylights how did you make it? Shake or mix method?

OP posts:
FlatteredRhubardFool · 30/01/2021 11:37

Oh and how much salt?

FossilisedFanny · 30/01/2021 12:10

@FlatteredRhubardFool it was fun to make and the butter tastes great !

Ferrylights · 30/01/2021 21:48

@FlatteredRhubardFool. Whisked for about 6 mins on high in a stand mixer, separate off the buttermilk (use in baking etc) and add salt to taste ...it doesn't last quite as shop bought so enjoy whilst really fresh

AveEldon · 30/01/2021 21:59

I like Tesco Finest Salted Normandy Butter & Waitrose French Butter With Sea Salt Crystals - around £2 for 250g
President is also nice
