Butter-what's your favourite and how much is it?

Currently on KerryGold which is £1.90 and rarely on offer. I used to buy Tesco own label but since lockdown I haven't been shopping there. We go through a 250g every couple of days due to my dcs addiction to freshly baked bread toasted and buttered.
What's your favourite?
(I don't want to get into any discussion about butter v spreadable products just want to hear good butter recommendations really).

Well, that was good fun making the butter and it tastes great too! We made scones with both the butter and the buttermilk and dc are very happy about it all with dd saying she wants scones for breakfast because they are so delicious. I might experiment with salt and different creams like Jersey cream. I think it needed a little more salt but it was really smooth and creamy.

Having seen the price of double cream, I’m not sure that buying it to make butter is going to work out cheaper. Does it?

FossilisedFanny · 31/01/2021 19:26

We made this from 2 tubs of double cream

Waitrose duchy organic is good. Tend to buy organic butter whichever shop we go to.

Strangely I remember having really nice butter in Vietnam

Like I have had in France they very thinly slice it not spread it (it’s kept very cold) and put on fresh baguette for breakfast often drizzled with honey it was delicious (they have a few French food influences left over from when France ruled over some of Vietnam)

We like Graham's, which is a Scottish, family run brand. Alternatively, Lurpak. Both are between £1.65 - £1.80 at the moment.

@BlackForestCake 300ml of double cream at £1.20 in Waitrose will make 200g butter and 100ml buttermilk. A 250g packet butter is £1.60 for Waitrose essential and buttermilk is 26p per 100ml.

We have a brand of butter in NI called Dromona. It comes in the usual block, but is softer than other butters, so spreads pretty well, even in winter. Tastes good too. I don't know if it's available outside NI though, so probably not very helpful!

I've enjoyed reading all these suggestions, and I've tried the President Spreadable. I've found that it's not actually spreadable, though, at least not in my cold kitchen. I think I read that M&S make something similar, so I'll try that next time I'm in.

any really

apart from lurpak, I had it once back in the 1970s and it tasted very odd to me - never had it since

like president or supermarket own, but very rarely eat butter and try not to eat Marg
