Gosh - this actually is very close to home! Some of the nicest people in my town are also Trump supporters, and they are the most likely to plough your driveway, partly because they're the ones with trucks with ploughs on them, but also because they really are such a huge part of the community.

These last few years have resulted in so much division locally - our town council has really struggled. I hope we can move on.

I think maybe in the years BT (before trump) it wasn't so obvious what political stance ordinary people in one's town took, so it was possible to see the person first and the politics second or even not at all. Trump made a lot of [people be very loud in their support of or opposition to him, and it's hard to back down from what became essentially a confrontation.

Same with Brexit over here. Feelings were so high that it's hard not to remember them.

My hope is that after a few months and years it won't feel so raw. On either side.

I can't stand dogs either, so I can't think bad of Trump for not being a canine crazy. Although, fair play to Team Biden, then seemed to get a boost from that angle.

I think there's a balance with how long it would take and the effort/reward tradeoff.

They could spent a lot of effort and a lot of time to achieve exactly what half the effort and half the time would done. With the end result that's a lot more time to fill the press with positive Joe Biden stories.

Speaking of unity, and also of the Super Bowl, the one thing that does unite people across political lines in the US is sport. Last night as the team that DH and I have supported for decades through thick and thin (mainly thin) won the Super Bowl, he was exchanging texts and facebook posts with people across the political spectrum. It's fleeting, of course, but nice while it lasts.

Personally I would have just continued without comment, only giving Trump shit intel that I definitely wanted the baddies to have. After all, the only way Trump could know it's duff is from another illegal source inside.
