Dominic Cummings could have been the UKs version of Lee Harvey Oswald. If LHO had been tasked with making Kennedys government look like a bunch of twats.

I did keep waiting for a Jack Ruby to appear.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/01/2021 11:56

Weeelllll

Has Farage got Russian connections? Yes, that's known.

Has Farage had Russian backing? Yes, that's known.

Did he know? Possibly.

Did he care? Probably not.

Was he suborned? Probably not, because it was not necessary: his particular sort of behaviour was beneficial to Putin without any need for further prompting.

Do the Russians have anything on him in case of need? Of course they do, it's absolutely basic. If they haven't they will have plausible lies about him which will do just as well. (See "the pee-pee tapes".)

Now for Farage read Johnson. Or Cummings. Or any other person in a position not necessarily of power but to influence someone in power.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/01/2021 11:59

In fact Farages meteoric rise starts after the disintegration of the Stasi

I wish it had! meteors don't rise; they fall and burn up, and it would have been a very good thing indeed if Farage had done exactly that, decades ago.

DGRossetti · 30/01/2021 12:03

The real trick - the absolute golden standard - of inserting a sleeper is that the sleeper themselves hasn't a fucking clue. It makes them bombproof for lie-detector tests that the US authorities appear to have too much faith in. It also allows for that other classic trick of making it the last person you suspect. The number of Televangelist preachers that fall victim to their own vices shows that.

Donald Trump is almost the dictionary definition for that.

theintellectualist.com/2021/01/29/nyt-several-gop-members-of-congress-have-links-to-right-wing-extremist-groups/

According to The New York Times, at least five Republican members of Congress have “links to organizations and movements that played a role in the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol.”

The Times singled out Reps. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and Matt Gaetz (R-FL) as lawmakers with “deeper ties to extremist groups who pushed violent ideas and conspiracy theories and whose members were prominent among those who stormed the halls of Congress” in an attempt to overturn the election results.

I was quite deliberate in my use of the word soviet. Just because the USSR collapsed doesn't mean the ideology and hard work of those decades evaporated.

Fair point.
Putin just kept on using what he knew.

The problem with the word soviet is that it still takes back to communist Russia. And Putin's Russia isn't communist, albeit still a dictatorship in fact.

DGRossetti · 30/01/2021 13:33

And Putin's Russia isn't communist

Soviet Russia wasn't either ....

minou123 · 30/01/2021 13:55

There is a new video of Marjorie Taylor Greene explaining her ridiculous view of the Capitol riots.
However this is not the most shocking thing.
She is being interviewed by Katie Hopkins!

Sorry I cant link, but its trending on twitter.
Has Katie Hopkins moved to the U S?
Please god let her stay there

Wherrsmaclickypen · 30/01/2021 14:28
If there was ever a reminder that it is sometimes unbearable to listen to other views, however important to do so, that is it. So depressing.

metro.co.uk/2021/01/30/eu-accused-of-almost-trumpian-act-after-u-turn-on-vaccine-block-13991149/

I think its striking that a UK Conservative politician is using the name of a US Republican president as short hand for bad actor, only weeks after the end of his term.

Roussette · 30/01/2021 15:10

Biden and Johnson. Not a match made in heaven....

Just read the Vice link about the Proud Boys
love the idea that they call their summary justice sharia
SO LITTLE comprehension

Biden will do nothing to silence Marjorie Taylor Greene
because she is driving moderates towards him by the thousand

Also, if he (or his press secretary) respond to every mad thing she says, she sets the agenda.

Oh dear Cuomo! Caught our covering up deaths, openly states he doesn't care and mandated sending 6,000 cocid patients back to nursing homes.

Yet he has not resigned nor been told to step down. If this was a republican under Trump their would be mass outrage from the Democrats. Where are the Democrats denouncing this inexcusable situation.

DGRossetti · 30/01/2021 18:01

Which would be totally ignored. Is there a point ?

Thymeout · 30/01/2021 18:10

There have been three elections which surprised pundits/polls. The first was Corbyn becoming leader of the LP. Then Brexit, then Trump. All have benefited Putin.

I know the Miliband rule-change explains how Corbyn did it and accusing a Left-wing leader of ties with Russia is a cliche, but even so I would not be surprised if he and Abbott were recruited during their dream holiday biking round the DDR in their youth. So easy to imagine Jezza running over a chicken and landing them both in the local jail, easy pickings for the Stasi. They're daft enough to volunteer their services. And, rule-change or not, they had a v efficient election machine via social media, including, no doubt bots in Macedonia or wherever.

@DGRossetti - I'm doing the same. Watching the Trump Alternative White House in Florida with keen interest. The re-emergence of Bannon, the take-over of the Republican Party, the make-up of the freshmen intake - even the stationery. It's clunky at the moment, because they hoped to have a second term, but the foundations are there.

Shocking. Didn’t Obama make an EO saying franchises in Public places had to pay a living wage.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 30/01/2021 19:57

@DGRossetti

.
Although I agree with him on much of what he says, I wonder when Bernie last applied for a job in McDonalds. Our local branches are starting at $12.50 an hour and still struggling to hire anyone because there are so many jobs elsewhere paying similar.

DD gets $12 an hour to make salads and pizzas in a local cheapo pizza restaurant.

Minimum pay legislation in many states also pushes that figure up. In 23 states the minimum wage is above $9 per hour.

Lweji · 30/01/2021 20:40

It's been done to death, but there's always room for cake, right?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/01/2021 21:31

Chocolate cake!
