I can't seem to attach a link but I love the artist Ann Vastano. She paints beautiful pictures of The Highlands. I've only got prints and one tiny original so far but I plan on buying more when I get my big lottery win Grin

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 23/01/2021 08:50

I’ve had good luck getting original paintings from Ebay - some established artists who sell new there, some lucky second-hand finds.

My favourites here - “Winter Landscape, Penwith Cornwall” (Jeremy Sanders)

“City Showers” (James Brunt)

“Illuminated” (Darren Scott)

But my favourite famous picture is this less-well known Pre-Raphelite “The Lady of Shallott” which shows the moment the mirror cracked from side to side.

@Confrontayshunme and @CrotchBurn i love the pictures you posted - the Hide & Seek has such a beautiful ramshackle family life feel, and the lady walking in solitude is so evocative.

@fassnk

I love Ron Lawson's work, beautiful images of the islands around Scotland. They're expensive though!
Beat me to it! Saw some of his paintings in a gallery in Portree & immediately captivated - so stark but beautiful

Love Stan Milne's works - every one of them makes me smile!

Loved this since I was little Smile

Really enjoying this thread, thanks for starting it Op.

I love this Oz based artist I stumbled across on Instagram, Sally West. I just love the texture and most of her paintings are of the seaside which is my favourite place to be

I have this in my sitting room and I love it. I know nothing about art so can't explain it properly but it makes me happy. We have all sorts of prints round the house, there's not one style that prevails. Someone who knows about art and stuff would probably leave with their head spinning Grin

Phillipa what a special picture that chicken is. So sorry about your little girl, I lost my 1 year old boy suddenly myself. My favourite piece of art in our house is his handprints that he did for me Smile. My favourite painting I don't own is The Execution of Lady Jane Grey by Paul Delaroche, it's massive and demands your attention when you walk into the room. A very sad painting but beautifully done.
Oh I am so excited to see someone post this! There are too many favourite artworks to mention but I have loved this one since I was a child. Talk about a picture being worth a thousand words.

I second Leonid Afremod. His paintings are stunningly colourful.

Me too but closer to 15 years ago - he was my only friend in London 😍 I have a print of him too :)

I often used to pop into the National to kill time. I loved Whistlejacket too - it always felt as though he'd feel warm to the touch, he looks so real and alive.

The painting that really got me was this one though:

Whenever I see it, I can smell something that is between the humid, earthy dampness of the palm house at Kew and the earthy petrichor smell of rain on hot dry earth. It's a really powerful smell.

Concorde 1949 by Barnett Newman. In real life the colours are just mesmerising.

I love that too...remember my Dad taking me to the National when I was about 10 and seeing it then.

I can’t be bothered to go upstairs to take a photo, but I have a giraffe in a bath sculpture like this one by Carlos & Albert. Mine is about ten years old now and the bath is more rounded and upright than in this photo but otherwise virtually the same.

Placemarking for inspiration. So many links to explore.

Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose by John Singer Sargent. I saw it in the Tate Gallery as a child and still remember it. The lanterns look like they’re lit up.

Love this thread! I have a big print of The Meeting on the Turret Stairs by Frederic William Burton which is in the Dublin National Gallery. A watercolour with really bold colours. I think it is so sexual; forbidden love and the way he is smelling her, drinking her in. I love it!

This is a lenticular by JJ Adams and is a limited addition print, as you walk past it turns to black and white, the tattoos disappear and her eyes close. I love it we have 3 other pieces by JJ Adams but this is my favourite.

My DH has 3 JJ Adams pieces. All Star Wars related...

I have a few Georgia O'Keeffe posters I bought in the Museum in Santa Fe, very striking. I had to stop buying them because it costs me a fortune to get them framed!
There's also a signed Lowry print, a really ugly picture but probably worth a bit now.

AcornAutumn · 23/01/2021 20:58

Where do people buy classical art prints eg Waterhouse, Grimshaw?

Searching online is either bringing me weird stuff or expensive stuff.
