Phillipa what a special picture that chicken is. So sorry about your little girl, I lost my 1 year old boy suddenly myself. My favourite piece of art in our house is his handprints that he did for me Smile.
My favourite painting I don't own is The Execution of Lady Jane Grey by Paul Delaroche, it's massive and demands your attention when you walk into the room. A very sad painting but beautifully done.

I would love to have one of LS Lowry's works.

IcicleLight · 22/01/2021 20:12

@captainprincess it's by Rob Barnes - he has lots of lovely prints here: www.southwoldgallery.co.uk/prints

I spend far too much time on that site - it's my happy place!

FloydWasACat · 22/01/2021 20:15

Gah, switch the first two names around.

Puddycatfan · 22/01/2021 20:18

I have a couple of Rob Barnes and Kerry Buck pieces. I'm so glad they were mentioned on the first page!

My favourite Barnes is "Taking Flight" and I have two Buck favourites: "Moonstruck" and "Little Owl".

Puffalicious · 22/01/2021 20:21

I love Hokkusai. Japanese art is just so different and I like the way you can see how they developed anime and manga from their traditional style. I like they style of old railway posters too.

I'm not going to post it because I made it myself and have posted it up on facebook etc. but it's a photo of a church made to look like a watercolour painting. I had it printed on textured paper and then framed and I think it's lovely. It's on the side drawers in the living room.

I LOVE Andy Warhol...there are a lot of bananas in my house.

And some literary quote prints from Obvious State.

LittleRa · 22/01/2021 20:35

As for illustrations, as someone mentioned upthread, you absolutely cannot beat Shirley Hughes

Any of these.

I already have a very early work by this artist, doubt if I'll ever be able to afford another.

I have the postcard of that on our bedroom wall, DH thinks I'm mad!

I have a few signed, limited edition Sam Chadwick prints of various Yorkshire scenes and landscapes. Not particularly valuable but nice to have nevertheless. I quite like the reproduction railway posters that are often seen in art galleries. There is a painting called 'A Spring Morning' by George Clausen which used to hang in a pub near me. I've always liked it and I'll probably buy a print when I have a few more walls.

Thurlow · 22/01/2021 20:45

These are my favourite pieces in our house. The first is Cromer pier, we try and go every year. The second was an impulse buy by Paul Caulfied. I love the way it captures the mood of the light, though we can never decide if it's sunrise or sunset

I don't own it unfortunately, saw it in a gallery whilst on holiday, it's by John Paul Cooke.
There was a loose plan to buy it for my 40th, which is hurtling towards me, don't think that's going to happen now.

@ghostyslovesheets

I was just about to post the same. I love this Dali painting, saw it at the Prado in Madrid. I think it’s moved to another gallery now. Stunning.

WildRosie · 22/01/2021 20:53

David Barrow has painted many pictures of the Northern Soul club scene. I don't know if prints are available but the originals would be beyond my reach!

hilariousnamehere · 22/01/2021 20:55

I've just ordered one of these as a reward to myself for finishing my tax return and I'm totally in love already! Wish I could afford the original but prints make me happy - and mean I can have more art up, right?! www.waterhorseartistry.co.uk/product-page/moon-daughter-art-print

hilariousnamehere · 22/01/2021 20:56

My favourite original art in my home is a blackbird my lovely friend drew for me years ago. I don't have expensive tastes but what I love, I really love!

MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting · 22/01/2021 20:58

Oh no, I linked the wrong one Blush

Brilliant thread. I love Sarah Farooqi, she does lots of pictures and maps of Northumberland and the north east. This is one of my favourites:

I wish I had the confidence to buy original art. I can afford it, I don't know what's stopping me Blush
