Just curious really. Seen a lot of hate for the governments handling of various things but they did recently win by a landslide and I’m not sure if people truly believe the opposition could do better.

So if it was just red or blue and there were a vote today, who would you vote for?

I’d vote Labour.

YABU - Conservative
YANBU - Labour

@eaglejulesk

So I will spoil my ballot, because it is my duty to vote, but I have no-one to vote for.

I'm not in the UK so correct me if I'm wrong, but surely voting isn't compulsory? You can't say it is your duty to vote but because you have no-one to vote for you will spoil your ballot. That is not voting, and is pointless - you might as well stay at home.

I spoiled my paper in December 2019. Women died and suffered incredible pain and hardship for my right to vote so I honour them by always doing that. My vote was used as a protest and was just as meaningful here in bloody Tory heartland.

Ahhh yeah conservatives, the party for women.

Happily giving a home to MP Philip Davies.

He has wanted the word 'women' removed from 'women and equalities committee' and ''voted against equalities legislation, argued against equality targets in the workplace and once tabled a private member’s bill that would have repealed the Sex Discrimination Act 2002. Last year, he spoke at a conference organised by the Justice for Men and Boys party, which is known for presenting petty “whining feminist” certificates to women’s rights advocates, and promoting inflammatory, misogynistic articles on its website such as one entitled “13 reasons women lie about being raped”.

These and a few more examples such as his arguing for more women to be sent to prison here-www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/feb/02/is-philip-davies-fit-to-be-an-mp

ANd then there is Conservative MP Christopher Chope who has tried to prevent bills for laws against upskirting and female genital mutation, then lied about his reason for doing so when the plebs had the audicty to be disgusted by him.

Why does the Conservative party ('the party for women' according to some on here) have a place for these men with no complaint?

I'll say it again. The Conservative party arnt radical feminists when it comes to the trans issue, they just hate any minorities.

feelingverylazytoday · 22/01/2021 12:49

I'd probably vote conservative (for the first time ever).
Firstly because we have a Tory MP and tbh they do a pretty good job for this area. I can't imagine how a labour mp would improve anything.
Secondly I'm not going to vote for anyone who pushes any of that identity shite. I will only vote labour again if they drop that and the champagne socialists and wokebros.

It’s interesting to see how many people claim they would spoil their ballot. As an ex-Labour activist, I have been to plenty of counts and I can tell you that, in reality, the number of spoilt papers is always negligible. A tiny fraction of 1%.

In the real world, people are busy and very very few can be arsed to waste their time travelling to the polling station & queuIng in order to spoil their paper. Overwhelmingly, people who can’t bring themselves to vote for any of the candidates just don’t vote at all.

UrAWizHarry · 22/01/2021 12:51

If you care about women's rights, then WTF are you doing voting Conservative? Fucking hell.

feelingverylazytoday · 22/01/2021 12:53

@Empressofthemundane

Children were going hungry under Labour too.
Yes they were. A lot of people on mumsnet have rose tinted glasses on when it comes to the past.
AngeloMysterioso · 22/01/2021 12:55

Have never voted Conservative and probably never will, although annoyingly my local MP is tory and he's actually not too bad

ConcernedAuntie · 22/01/2021 13:02

As I heard someone say recently. It doesn't make any difference who you vote for, the 'Government' would still get in.

If there was an election tomorrow I would vote the same way as last time. That is, not at all. Nothing ever changes and I don't trust any of them with my precious hard won vote. Why would I give something precious to someone I don't trust.

Notnt · 22/01/2021 13:30

I'd love to vote SNP but live in England, so would vote Labour.
We have a Tory MP and judging from social media, thankfully a lot of people are saying they'll not be voting Tory again and they want rid of him after the next election (I've never voted Tory, never will).

I did it so did several of my friends. It probably doesn’t happen so much in marginals but somewhere like here, where they weigh the Tory votes, probably sees a lot of spoilt papers.

Can we have some evidence that “children went hungry under Labour” rather than an airy assertion we’re supposed to just accept?

Hi
Can anyone recommend some really good inspirational books that can give advice on how Young people can find real inspiration in the new world we are all living in.
So many self help books are focused on '10steps to wealth' advice , just regurgitated ideas, I am looking for something fresh, new and more down to earth
Many thanks

jcyclops · 22/01/2021 16:52

I live in a constituency that is such a safe labour seat that the party doesn't even bother campaigning as they know they will win. The other parties only make a token effort as they know they will lose. There is no incentive to vote for any party with the current system.

StormTreader · 28/01/2021 11:09

"If there was an election tomorrow I would vote the same way as last time. That is, not at all. Nothing ever changes and I don't trust any of them with my precious hard won vote."

A vote that isnt cast is the same as not having a vote. Voting is like busses - theres never going to be one going from exactly where you are straight to your front door, you have to go with whatever is closest to the direction you want.
