To be thrilled that it’s raining heavily so that I don’t need to go for another sodding walk?

I add the proviso that I don’t have young children and therefore won’t be missing the caged animal need to escape outdoors as I did when dc were little. I do have two neuro diverse teens but they are pretty independent.

I’m going to do some work and then lounge beatifically on the sofa later this afternoon and try and find something fun to watch on Netflix. I might have some chocolate (if teen dd hasn’t finished it [Hmm). No sodding walking - guilt free.

So YANBU to be glad for one day to not walk guilt-free

Or YABU because

YA SO NBU!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/01/2021 09:06

YANBU. I'm currently walking to work in it. I'm not going out for any more bloody walks in my free time. Sick of walks.

SmileyClare · 20/01/2021 09:09

I've cancelled my walk today too! It's somehow justified to lounge on the sofa re-watching Breaking Bad if it's hammering with rain.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell you there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing and you need to invest in an triple layered adult puddle suit or something.

midgebabe · 20/01/2021 09:10

Sodding or sodden?

Calmandmeasured1 · 20/01/2021 09:13

It isn't the law of even guidance that you have to go for a walk.

BrendasBlessed · 20/01/2021 09:13

Both @midgebabe Grin

LOL at ‘adult puddlesuit’ Grin

YANBU. I do have kids - 3yo and 6yo - and I am happy it's raining heavily so that I have a valid excuse not to go out on one of the same four walks that we've been doing for months. We're having an 'indoor day' which means I am going to rush through the 6yo's school work this morning so that I can catch up on the new season of 90 Day Fiancé while they are glued to their iPads this afternoon.

Consider it self care

QueenOfLabradors · 20/01/2021 09:19

Unfortunately I may describe myself as the Queen of Labradors, but actually they rule me... And don't care how horrible it is out there. So the adult version of a triple layer puddle suit is about to be donned. I do however have crumpets and butter and jam ready for later!

MorrisZapp · 20/01/2021 09:22

I'm sorry to hear you're struggling. Have you tried going for a walk?

Misspacorabanne · 20/01/2021 09:24

Same op! Grin

Flippyferloppy · 20/01/2021 09:25

YANBU - we are lucky to live near a large forest, but I am so utterly sick of "going walkies". It's become a chore

becca3210 · 20/01/2021 09:28

You are lucky. I will be going out with my spaniel soon. Eeeek!

thriftyhen · 20/01/2021 09:29

Dogs have been walked, horses and chickens fed. As long as you're dressed for it, it's fine. Being inside all day would make me feel slowed down and fuzzy!

shitinmyhandsandclap · 20/01/2021 09:29

I'm gutted it's pissing down, I've loved going for walks and it's totally helping my weight loss and toning up. I've got all the wet weather gear but it's hard to get motivated to go out when it's so cold and wet. But I too have a Labrador who won't take no for an answer so I'll get togged up and go at lunchtime

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/01/2021 09:30

It’s torrential. And I’ve got a toddler and am caged so we’re going out anyway as soon as it’s very slightly less torrential...

Please send luck.

WalkingOnStarshine · 20/01/2021 09:31

I have a toddler and LOVE when it's miserable outside so we can't go anywhere. Duvet on the sofa, snacks and films is how I deal with days like that, bliss.

StillMedusa · 20/01/2021 09:33

I've just bribed DS1 (adult but with autism) to walk the dog this morning Grin
I'll take her out later myself but just could NOT face another session of getting woolly soaked hair and covered in mud. I'm not at work today so am sitting in bed with a coffee listening to the howling gale!

(She's his dog too but I do most of the walks so I'm only being a BIT mean...)

merryhouse · 20/01/2021 09:33

YABU. Either you need to go for a walk, in which case you still need to go, or you don't, in which case you only go out when you want to.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/01/2021 09:34

Sodding and sodden, surely?

Unless it’s really tipping it down I do (usually) force myself out, wrapped up nice and warm, as everyone’s mother used to say. A newish waterproof coat with a really good hood that doesn’t blow off in the wind, has helped.
Part of my motivation is being able to slob on the sofa afterwards with cup of tea/book/Kindle/TV, and a clear conscience.

SillyOldMummy · 20/01/2021 09:39

Yabu because you can walk in the rain. You won't melt.

Blowingagale · 20/01/2021 09:41

I’ve been doing a walk each morning to substitute at least part of my commute. Stupidly tried this morning when it appeared to only be drizzling. Was a very short walk! Happy to be dry at home.

BrendasBlessed · 20/01/2021 09:46

Grin @MorrisZapp

Sending luck @AnneLovesGilbert Gin

I have. A thousand reasons I should want to get out. But I don't.
Decided the small ones can just trash the playroom and toys everywhere. I'm doing nothing bar some laundry. Then sort house once they're in bed tonight

Saz12 · 20/01/2021 09:51

I’m trying to restart running. So far I’m way behind my target due to number of times it’s been too icy (I saw), too cold too wet too dark and I’ve had various aches. As I’m a nearly middle-aged woman doing it because I want to, it doesn’t bother me at all.

Of course you CAN walk in the rain, but you dont HAVE to. You can have a free-pass whenever you want, so long as you’re approximating “most” days even the most picky of interfering people could surely imagine no grounds to lecture!

BogRollBOGOF · 20/01/2021 09:52

I've started DS (7) on C25k. The only place he can run safely at his own pace is on the local park, which is a mud-swamp and increasingly getting puddles/ running water on top of the mud. It's not just that heavy rain is unpleasant, it's that its rendering many public spaces unpleasant or unusable.
