To be thrilled that it’s raining heavily so that I don’t need to go for another sodding walk?

I add the proviso that I don’t have young children and therefore won’t be missing the caged animal need to escape outdoors as I did when dc were little. I do have two neuro diverse teens but they are pretty independent.

I’m going to do some work and then lounge beatifically on the sofa later this afternoon and try and find something fun to watch on Netflix. I might have some chocolate (if teen dd hasn’t finished it [Hmm). No sodding walking - guilt free.

So YANBU to be glad for one day to not walk guilt-free

Or YABU because

I have to walk everyday, even in normal times or I feel really sluggish and shit. But OP, you do realise that you don't need to go out for a walk even when the weather is good?

For those who are similar to me, I can fully recommend a long length drovers coat. Mine is Lighthouse brand and phenomenal. I walk in it, ride in it (what it was originally bought for) and it has never let me down. And because it is so long, I don't need to peel off any wet layers when I get home.

Backbee · 20/01/2021 09:53

YANBU, already got our walk out the way this morning with DS so can stay in the rest of the day and avoid the rain the rest of the day without 'the walk' hanging over us. :D

RestingPandaFace · 20/01/2021 09:54

Love the idea of an adult puddlesuit...but only if it has dinosaurs on 🦕

samanthawashington · 20/01/2021 09:57

Living in a flood hit area, YABU. No one is forcing you to go for a walk whatever the weather.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 20/01/2021 09:59

Have a lovely guilt free day 😀

We might try for a walk later, i am trying to get out daily as i need the exercise, but looking forward to a film afternoon if we dont make it out

QueenPawPaws · 20/01/2021 10:00

If anyone is avoiding the rain but wants to walk then youtube has walk videos which are v basic exercise ones (I did one after work yesterday)

PontiacFirebird · 20/01/2021 10:01

I like it when the weather's wild because I can go for long walks and not see another person. That's what I hate about lockdown walks- there are so many bloody people about!

PainterInPeril · 20/01/2021 10:01

@BrendasBlessed Wuss! Go on, go for a walk! It'll wake you up, and make you feel energised. Go on, I dare you! Grin

PontiacFirebird · 20/01/2021 10:02

Looking up drovers coat now...

actiongirl1978 · 20/01/2021 10:03

I have to walk too but have walked several times a day since we got DDog. So no cancelling walks here.

I'm quite jealous.

Am Confused at the idea of my children leaving the house for a walk. Do people bribe them? Mine don't leave the house for weeks at a time. (12 & 10). Still DS is an actual expert on all films made in the last 20 years Grin

Mindymomo · 20/01/2021 10:05

We have a border collie, so not walking is out of the question. My husband has already taken him early this morning. I will do a lunchtime walk, unless it’s absolutely pouring it down, but I’ve got wet nearly every day this week.

Glitterblue · 20/01/2021 10:05

I too am glad it's pouring and we can't go for a walk - DM questions me every single day about whether we have been for a walk and if we haven't, she then gives me a lecture on the benefits of fresh air and exercise - which I'm well aware of but sometimes it's nice just to stay in! They go for a walk every single day and always have - usually to the same place!

Feathersinthehead · 20/01/2021 10:08

I learnt to drive in my 30s, so I have banked hundreds, probably thousands of miles plodding along miserably in rain and shine lugging heavy bags.
Now I’m a fair-weather walker and feel no shame whatsoever. 🙂

Springersrock · 20/01/2021 10:08

YANBU

I don’t even want to hear about appropriate clothing and I know I won’t melt.

It’s cold, it’s windy as fuck and absolutely tipping down.

I’ve just dried out, removed the mud from myself and warmed up after sorting my horses this morning. I’ll have to go and deal with them again later so I’ll be fucked if I’m going out for a walk

SmileyClare · 20/01/2021 10:10

we can enjoy the rest of the day without "the walk" hanging over us Ha ha I know exactly what you mean. Now it's the winter The Walk is a bloody chore. We all know we'll feel better for it but still I'm having to force myself to do it.

Then I feel all smug when I get home. Silly really Grin

StrawberrySquash · 20/01/2021 10:13

I am a firm lover of walks and yet... twitter.com/paulanthjones/status/1351555106882392066?s=19

CasperGutman · 20/01/2021 10:16

YABU because you don't need rain as an excuse to stay in and watch Netflix instead of going for a walk.

VanillaAndOrange · 20/01/2021 10:16

YANBU but it just goes to show we're all different. I will be going for a walk today, rain or no rain, because it means a lot to me to get outside. (I would have liked to go for a run, but we also need some essential food supplies and it's easier to combine those with a walk than a run.)

If you don't want a walk, but would like to get some exercise, why not mix it up and do some yoga? Flexibility is just as important as stamina.

DenisetheMenace · 20/01/2021 10:17

Purely selfishly, I’m glad of rain. With CEV husband it’s too risky on nice days, with so many out and about. Howling wind or torrential rain are the only conditions I can go out in knowing it will be quiet 🙄

JustCallMeGriffin · 20/01/2021 10:17

I prefer walking in the rain because there's less people around so it means I don't have to go out at 6am for a peaceful wander but YANBU if you don't want to venture out...more space on the pavements for soggy walkers like me Grin

Hexago · 20/01/2021 10:18

I need the dose of daylight so will be out there for the usual walk today. Probably soon to get it over with though!

XingMing · 20/01/2021 10:18

You're not being unreasonable, but my dog still needs a walk, even today, more's the pity. Or I'd join you on the sofa!

SpiderGwen · 20/01/2021 10:24

Yanbu because trudging along muddy paths is grim.

I wish it would stop, though. My garden and drive are flooded, it’s absolutely horrendous.

nevernotstruggling · 20/01/2021 10:30

Yanbu. I refused the dog yesterday as well.

Garden is like a bog ffs.

GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom · 20/01/2021 10:31

Fucking WALKS. I'm starting to hate the word itself...

And to think that prior to all this, I enjoyed them so much that I have a load of outdoor gear and several books of walking routes in and around my area.

It's not just that I'm sick of them now, it's also that they remind me of this shitshow of a time.
