To tell you how much I love my period pants!

Been using them for a few months now and cant believe it took me this long! It's literally just you pull on your underwear and you're done. I don't even know why you'd bother faffing around with mooncups etc when this exists, let alone pads.

I will admit that if I have an event or something I would still use tampons just because I've been using those for so long I have confidence in them whereas I still need to get used to the underwear. But for day to day use I absolutely love these, they almost make me forget I have my period

Any other converts?

I’ve been using re-usable pads for about 18 months now and I love them! They are comfy and feel just like normal underwear. They are easier to change than period pants when out and about. I rinse them out well and pop them in with a normal wash.
The only time I don’t use them is if I’m staying at someone’s house or at a hotel because I can’t wash them easily.
I wish I’d tried them sooner Smile

OkOkWhatsNext · 17/01/2021 22:28

I have found them life changing too. Wanted to move away from tampons. I tried a moon cup (similar different brand anyway) but couldn’t wee properly with it in! I find I need to change them two or three times on the first day of my period, but after that one pair will last the whole day and change at night. Also v handy for the last few days when is v light but not quite finished. I love them and have now bought enough pairs to last me a full period so no need to use anything else. I wish I had had them as a teenager. So many embarrassing leaks with pads, when I didn’t have one to change, and they used to get all bunched up and leak. Pants fit much more closely so that’s not an issue and much more comfortable. Can’t believe it has taken so long for them to be invented tbh!
@CutToChase, or anyone else for that matter

Anyone used them with very very heavy flow, the type where you need a maternity pad and you still need to change the pad every hour?
Yes. Mine are very heavy (leaking through ultra tampon, pad, pants and jeans) and Iove ModiBodi pants.

I have 8 pairs of the heavy/overnight ones. And I change them every 1-2 hours on the first 3 days. So there IS a lot of washing. But I feel so much better as there is no more pain, and I don't have to manage disposables (I never got on with a noon cup). And on days 3-6 I literally forget I have my period.

Previously I'd leak often, the tampon would overflow and so would the pad. This hasnt happened with the pants.

I do use two ultra tampons overnight though for the first 3 nights. One when I go to bed and then I wake up as it's full and change to a new tampon but keep same pants until the morning. I've never leaked in the bed since using the pants.

FrangipaniBlue · 17/01/2021 22:37

@IHateCoronavirus

To those of you reporting better pain relief what do you think is relieving the normal level of pain?
TMI coming up but this is the science...... or so I'm told by a gynaecologist!!

Tampons are absorbent so don't just suck up blood but your normal vaginal mucus. Because things dry out it causes cramping and discomfort when you pull out the tampon.

A moon cup isn't absorbent so the blood flows into it but your normal vaginal mucus stays around it. Hence less cramping and pain when you remove it.

PoochiePlush · 17/01/2021 22:42

@Russellbrandshair

They’re ok for overnight use. But during the day? Gross. I have very very heavy periods and it really doesn’t feel fresh or pleasant sitting in your own blood all day in pants that get heavier and heavier like a nappy. They’re also very expensive and take ages to dry after washing.
This literally doesn't happen! Confused

If you feel that they're wet, then you need to change them. So just like tampons or pads, when they're "full" you have to change them.

I guess it's almost like using pads, except the material wicks the blood away. It's not like a nappy at all. I guess you haven't ever used them as I guess the inexperienced might imagine this is what they would feel like.

It's more like specialized running kit which wicks away the sweat. Running kit doesn't get heavier and heavier the more you sweat.... Hmm

AndAPartridgeInABearTree · 17/01/2021 22:45

I use Cheeky Wipes/Cheeky Pants.

So comfy and do exactly what I want them to do. I'm heavy the first 2 days so I change them every 3/4 hours for the first 2 days. Then down to every 6 hours or so. By day 5 it's morning, mid afternoon and bedtime so 8 hours each. I double up with tampons overnight on nights 1 and 2 as I'm heavy but it doesn't leak. I also use a tampon if I'm going out for longer than 2 hours on days 1 and 2 but after that I just bring a spare pair in their special wet/dry zip up bags. I'm a complete convert and it definitely makes having a period less stressful. I too can forget about it and in 25+ years I could never have said that.

CutToChase · 17/01/2021 22:46

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe
That's really weird and also doesn't make sense as I just checked and they ship to the isle of man and Jersey so why not mainland UK? 🤔 Send them an email!

I dont wash mine on a special wash, but on the lowest heat setting in a standard wash (20C)

But it does happen- it happens to me which is why I don’t wear them during the day. I don’t want to have to change my saturated underwear in the toilets at work only to then carry them around all day yuck!!!
Tampons are much nicer for me during the day

Russellbrandshair · 17/01/2021 22:50

Running kit doesn't get heavier and heavier the more you sweat..

Sweat isn’t at all like blood though- sweat evaporates over time. Blood does not 🙄

CausingChaos2 · 17/01/2021 23:11

Unless they become a lot more affordable I don’t see how they would be a viable option for me/ anyone with a normal - heavy flow. I want to freshen up and change my pad every 2-3 hours even if my flow is normal. Even if the pants can hold 12 hours I wouldn’t want to keep them on that long. Plus the hassle of taking off tights / trousers to change them.

Reusable sanitary pads seem like a much better idea. For the cost of one pair of period pants you can get a whole selection of pads to rotate. Easy to change too.

Glitterbubbles · 17/01/2021 23:15

I absolutely love mine too. Use a mixture of period pants and menstrual cup. On heavier days I use my cup and some period pants in case of leaks. Overnight I prefer to use period pants so I don't have to worry how long my cup is in for.
Don't think I'd ever go back to tampons!

Truthlikeness · 17/01/2021 23:25

I rinse in cold water and then put in my normal wash - 30 degrees and a small amount of eco fabric conditioner. Modibodi recommend 20 degrees. Doesn't seem to have done them any harm so far. Maybe they won't last as long, but that's a price I'm willing to pay for the convenience.

queenofSI · 17/01/2021 23:39

I just don’t see HOW they deal with big clots (and I mean BIG). Clots are more solid than blood obviously, how do they get absorbed into the fabric? I imagine them just sitting there on top of the fabric

Can only speak for myself but sitting on top (or worse, getting pushed to the side and slithering down my inner thigh when I walked Envy) was exactly what happened in my period pants.
VetiverAndLavender · 18/01/2021 00:03
@VetiverAndLavender have you tried honour your flow reusable pads? Their heavy and night ones are seriously large and absorbing, I mean the length of your forearm! I love them
No, but thank you for the suggestion! Sounds like they're worth a look!

Xiomara22 · 18/01/2021 00:04

Absolutely love mine. I use cheeky wipes brand. I used to do a very active job out in a site and long hours and even though I bleed heavily they’d last until I got home with no leaks or smell. Wouldn’t use any other method now!

QueenPawPaws · 18/01/2021 00:08

@VetiverAndLavender you want the extremely heavy flow or the night ones. Night are for more.. trickle heavy, extremely are more for gushing. My periods are the type that you panic if you sneeze and the slim mega from here I have never ever leaked with and they can do 4-6hrs

FlyNow · 18/01/2021 01:50

I have been using the modibodi ones for a few years and I love them. They are ideal for wearing if you think you may come on that day, light-medium flow days, at night, and as a back up to a tampon on heavy days. They are like the convenience of a pad (not having to insert it), but so much more comfortable and protective - not sweaty, and don't bunch up or move around.

I wish these had existed when I was a teenager. I don't know why I had so much trouble, I did change pads regularly, but it seemed like I always got leaks on my school uniform (Blush) or on my sheets at night.

Re what happens to clots etc, well they aren't magic, it's the same as wearing a pad.

FlyNow · 18/01/2021 01:55

As for the washing - it depends on your routine as to whether this is an issue. I have a family of four so I put a load on pretty much every day, and I wash in cold anyway and don't use fabric softener. So for me it's absolutely no trouble and no different.

grassisjeweled · 18/01/2021 02:05

Meh. I'm not convinced. Putting them in the washer, surely the blood soaks almost right up your bum, then you're left with a bloody print in your arse? Seems unhygienic

grassisjeweled · 18/01/2021 02:07

Having to prewash in cold water etc etc ugh, I just don't find pads that much of an inconvenience tbh.

Darklingthrush · 18/01/2021 07:16

Erm, no! Yes, it's a bit more work than just putting it in the bin but I think a lot of people hate the idea of throwing so much waste into landfill . I know I do.

coldwaterfeed · 18/01/2021 08:08

@Gwenhwyfar

That would be fine.
So you rinse in cold water and then hand wash in hot water with soap?

Yes, that’s right. I do tend to wash them straightaway though (I.e. in the morning), I think they would be harder to wash by hand if I left them fir a day or so, as you can’t soak them.

LizFlowers · 18/01/2021 13:53

Washing them out at night wouldn't have bothered me, I always used to wash my pants thoroughly by hand at night anyway, that was routine for me; I just wouldn't feel secure during a heavy flow and they do smell during the course of the day, at work for example. I was quite happy with tampons and pads, frequently changed - and now glad to have left all that behind.

PrivateParty · 18/01/2021 14:05

Has anyone got the design comfort brand ones? Think they're America. I'm about to order some as they have offer on at the moment..
