To tell you how much I love my period pants!

Been using them for a few months now and cant believe it took me this long! It's literally just you pull on your underwear and you're done. I don't even know why you'd bother faffing around with mooncups etc when this exists, let alone pads.

I will admit that if I have an event or something I would still use tampons just because I've been using those for so long I have confidence in them whereas I still need to get used to the underwear. But for day to day use I absolutely love these, they almost make me forget I have my period

Any other converts?

Do they not smell after 12 hours?

Ursulasunderstudy · 17/01/2021 19:15

I have some Thinx pairs and am not the biggest fan. I find you have to change them with every toilet trip because when you pull them back on, where they’re damp (and they are damp) it’s cold and really uncomfortable. I also have a very heavy flow and if I’ve flooded they can’t absorb very well so when you pull them down it frequently flicks blood everywhere.
Maybe if you have a light/medium flow they work better. I now use mine overnight with a tampon and pad to save my bedsheets!

MazDazzle · 17/01/2021 19:15

Nowmum I’ve exercised in mine.

I used to use a mooncup and thought it was great, but occasionally it would be a little uncomfortable and I used to be able to feel it. With period pants I forget I’m wearing them.

IHateCoronavirus · 17/01/2021 19:16

Hmm maybe not for the heaviest days then.

minimonkey11 · 17/01/2021 19:16

I use modi bodi too. Love them! Sainsburys also sell some in larger shops- they are ‘love luna’

MazDazzle · 17/01/2021 19:17

No more than a pad would Indecisive. I think they are made of naturally anti-bac fabric. I used reusable bamboo nappies with my kids and they didn’t smell.

Givemeabreak88 · 17/01/2021 19:17

Following, I’ve never used tampons or moon cups honestly they freak me out! And I hate pads, these sound good but I would worry if they leak??

Darklingthrush · 17/01/2021 19:18

What are dropshipping companies?

Givemeabreak88 · 17/01/2021 19:19

Just read the other comments, mine are really heavy so probably no good for me then, i will stick with pads I think

froggers1 · 17/01/2021 19:20

I use Wuka and I'm a size 18. I bloody love them. Life changing in fact. I'm perimenopausal and pretty heavy now but a pair lasts me half a day. And they are so much more comfortable than pads.

Helocariad · 17/01/2021 19:20

Another fan of modibodi period pants here. I have heavy flow so use them in combination with a mooncup. Works really well. I charge them mornings and evenings.

Darklingthrush · 17/01/2021 19:20

Just to add - I am perimenopausal and my cycle is very irregular so I often wear them anyway as I feel safer that I won't be caught out in the classroom!

An0n0n0n · 17/01/2021 19:21

I made my own and they are great. I usually use a reusable pad as well and tTmhat way i have extra protection and don't need to worry about carrying a spare. I can just take the pad off and wear the pants.

CatsForLife · 17/01/2021 19:22

I use ModiBodi too. In answer to the washing question, you rinse in cold water then put in the wash. I don’t think you’re suppose to use fabric softener with them. I love them.

CutToChase · 17/01/2021 19:23

They dont leak. At all. You can definitely wear them to work out in too.

They all come in different flow intensities, I can get away with two pairs per 24 hours when I use the heavy flow ones.

I think these would work great for women who have sensory issues too, for example I was introduced to them by a friend who is autistic and cant deal with things like tampons.

They DO smell if you leave them too long, just like a pad would. So I would recommend getting one pair, and testing how you get on - how long does it take before it stops absorbing as well. Maybe try it out on a Sunday or something.

Personally I wont be going back to other methods. I've literally not leaked once, whereas even with tampons I have "overflowed" before. I also feel like these give you WAY more warning than tampons in terms of leakage- never leaked, but can sense its filling up for several hours, so plenty of time to react.

In terms of washing: you rinse/wring them out under a tap, and then chuck them in the machine (low heat).

This thread has really inspired me to try some. Interesting about less cramping and pain - apparently most tampons contain chemicals eg. bleach to whiten cotton that could exacerbate pain and inflammation

minimonkey11 · 17/01/2021 19:25

You can buy different types according to your flow. I have 2 light to moderate and 2 heavy. Wear 2-3 pairs in a day and wash them on a quick cycle in the evening and dry them on a radiator overnight. My heavy days are pretty heavy but i can wear these for 3-4 hours easily.

Meredithgrey1 · 17/01/2021 19:25

@IHateCoronavirus

To those of you reporting better pain relief what do you think is relieving the normal level of pain?
I’ve read (and experienced this myself when I switched from tampons to reusable pads) that tampons can make cramps worse. I don’t know the mechanics of this though.
Soverytiredtoday · 17/01/2021 19:26

I use them when I’m expecting my period to come and as a back up for my moon cup which I find sometimes leaks a little when I’m at the beginning of my period. Love the fact that this combination means I don’t have to use any pads each month. I bought some for my daughter but she isn’t as convinced- had a bad experience of flooding through one night and lost confidence in them but I think she does wear them when she is anticipating her period coming and at the end of her period.

minimonkey11 · 17/01/2021 19:27

Actually probably longer than 4 hours!

Kljnmw3459 · 17/01/2021 19:27

I probably would have loved them before I started on the 3 year implant. Now my flow is really heavy, unpredictable and lasts for over a week. I use a tampon, pad and a reusable pad..... once I get rid of the implant I will give it a go!

BeardieWeirdie · 17/01/2021 19:27

For changing in the day at work/public loos, you can combine with a washable pad so you bleed onto the pad in the morning, remove at lunch and then just use the pants for the afternoon.

Hoppinggreen · 17/01/2021 19:27

Dd uses tampons but when she’s at school and can’t rely on being able to get to a toilet frequently she wears period pants as a back up. She complains they are a bit granny pants and show through her skirt, I tell her they wouldn’t if her skirt wasn’t so tight!!

TinCanCollector · 17/01/2021 19:28

I couldn’t wear the same pad from first thing in the morning till 4pm, no matter how light my period was, I’d feel pretty gross by 4pm, so there’s no way I’d want to do the same with a pair of period pants.

And the faff of being out and having to take your jeans and knickers off to change them.

No thanks.

Annoy · 17/01/2021 19:28

I use cheeky wipes pants. They also make reusable nappies. From what I can gather, the absorbent and waterproof materials used in the pants are the same as in their nappies.

Like OP I have moderate flour and change mine 3 times a day.

I also have an active job and lifestyle and find they don’t leak.

I have a mooncup for heavier days
