To tell you how much I love my period pants!

Been using them for a few months now and cant believe it took me this long! It's literally just you pull on your underwear and you're done. I don't even know why you'd bother faffing around with mooncups etc when this exists, let alone pads.

I will admit that if I have an event or something I would still use tampons just because I've been using those for so long I have confidence in them whereas I still need to get used to the underwear. But for day to day use I absolutely love these, they almost make me forget I have my period

Any other converts?

At work and then put them in a bag to take home? No thanks.

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/01/2021 01:14

I can't imagine anyone thinks its easy to take off shoes, trousers, pants and then put the soggy pants somewhere and do it all in reverse in a toilet cubicle in public.
I'll stick with my mooncup and reusable pads.

@5zeds

I can’t imagine anyone really thinks it’s hard work to change your pants??ShockConfused
When you're in a tiny cubicle at work or on a plane, where in normal times I spend many, many days a month then yeah, it's not very comfortable to strip down and get dressed again.
Neenan · 20/01/2021 06:40

I don’t have periods anymore but I wished I’d know about these in my peri menopause flooding days, I would have still worn a tampon but these would have saved me being tied to the house for fear of bleeding everywhere.

Change your pants at work and then put the soiled pants... where? In my desk drawer?
BertieBotts · 20/01/2021 08:52

Storing the pants isn't an issue for me, I've used reusable pads.

It's taking off trousers, shoes, maybe even leggings or tights if it's a cold day. Trousers I wear for work tend to be awful skinny fit things, because baggy doesn't look professional. Where do you put them while you're taking them off? On the toilet floor? What if it's a unisex toilet and blokes have been using it? Pee drips Envy what if it's a tiny cubicle and the leg of the trousers pokes out of the bottom? People would wonder what on earth you are doing!

I suppose it's not difficult but it's faffy and I hate changing clothes at the best of times. If I could live in pyjamas 100% of the time and have them magically self clean I definitely would! Maybe I'm weird, but at least I'm not alone judging by this thread!

5zeds · 20/01/2021 09:26

Modibodi sell a little wet bag like a pencil case that fits in a bag or pocket if you need to change out and about. They also sell pants with side fasteners presumably for quick changes when you’re wearing tights. I honestly don’t find it a problem but if you would then I guess they’re not for you. I think they’re comfy, low hassle and key for me very reliable.

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/01/2021 09:35

Oh god I wear skinny jeans a lot, they turn inside out when you take them off.
No way that would work in public.

bettydaviseyes1 · 20/01/2021 09:39

Best invention ever!! I keep exclaiming to my husband every month "period pants are the best, why have I only discovered them?!"

I would have used tampons but always apprehensive about TSS, the plastic and trying to covertly sneak them to the loos with you while in the office!

Between 8-6 I would have used 3 tampons whereas I use 1 pair of period pants for 12 hours!

It's not like a pad in that you feel the wetness, I dont know how they do it but its magic.

I bought two pairs at first but have since bought 3 more. The only thing is I'd like them to make a sealed storage bag because I rinse and keep them until I can wash all the pants at once (separate to other clothes, in a cold wash, no fabric softener) and by then they start to smell a bit.

I just use normal ones but these seem designed to deal with awkward changing situations.

People generally carry tampons in their handbags which they take into the loo at work, you don't have to sneak them! You don't get toxic shock if you change tampons frequently for goodness sakes.

You wear one pair for twelve hours? That will stink! Ask anyone who works with someone who uses period pants. I think you would need three pairs a day so buying only two or three pairs is pretty useless ; wash them thoroughly each night, not just rinse and then save for the washing machine. Ugh.

bettydaviseyes1 · 20/01/2021 10:49

@LizFlowers

My post has really disgusted you hasnt it? LOL

I'm telling my experience of period pants and tampons etc so I'm afraid you cant disagree. It's my experience so its FACT.

I know that changing tampons reduces chances of TSS but I'm still apprehensive. FACT.

No one carries their bag in my work, they put them in their hand/up their sleeve. FACT.

I dont stink but thank for your concern and the concern for my colleagues noses:)

bettydaviseyes1 · 20/01/2021 10:53

@LizFlowers

They're designed to be worn all day. See midi bodi website. Have you ever tried them yourself? You might be surprised!

Whatwouldscullydo · 20/01/2021 10:55

It doesn't have to be all.or nothing anyway.

Like changing into joggers or taking your bra off, some might just like to come home and take a break from.pads and tampons and these are perfect for that too.

I cant say I've ever smelt anyone. Unlike the pad aisle in tesco..

PandemicAtTheDisco · 20/01/2021 11:26

I've tried Luna pants and Cheeky pants. I have heavy periods and have problems with flooding. I was spending around £30 a month on disposable san pro and medication. I needed to wear the disposable sanitary pants at night and it was like wearing nappies.

The most absorbant pants from Love Luna (Sainsbury's) and Cheeky pants have been brilliant and I use washable pads (charcoal bamboo ones) as extra protection. I'm now saving a lot of money and helping the environment.

I used washable nappies for my baby and to be honest some people's reactions stunk. Babies are fairly disgusting with snotty noses, milk vomit and poo but they are from normal bodily functions, cat litter trays!; I don't see periods as anything different. The pants will stink if you don't rinse them out within 24 hours but they absorb the smell suprisingly well.

I've not leaked onto the bed sheets since I started using them. I've had one slight clothes leak but I flooded and I think the pants coped much better than pads would have done. I think they are the best invention for woman in years.

Mary8076 · 20/01/2021 11:32

I use period pants that have only a waterproof layer (not the absorbent one) with disposable maxi overnight pads. I've found these on amazon, cheaper than the absorbent ones and much better.

I've heavy flow and for me that is the best solution. I strongly prefer more protection and peace of mind rather than mini non-existent "cool" pads. I bought them also for my DDs and these are the best for them too. No worries about leakages at all, you can change the pad quickly as usual and you have all the advantages of the period pants. Then the waterproof layer cover all the way front to back, not just only in the middle as many absorbent period pants.

In my opinion every maximum 4 hours you should change the pad for healthy and practical reasons, occasionally 6 hours in difficult situations.

LizFlowers · 20/01/2021 11:49

That sounds very sensible, Mary.

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/01/2021 12:08

What are "cool" pads?Confused

queenofSI · 20/01/2021 14:54

are we still in the days of pretending women don’t have periods? Hmm

optimisticpessimist01 · 20/01/2021 15:04

@PandemicAtTheDisco

I have the exact same problem that my periods are so heavy I have to change tampon every 1-2 hours otherwise it leaks. Do you still wear other sanitary products as well as the pants or just the pants on their own? I've been really considering buying a few pairs, every time I get my period I spend the entire time paranoid and worried!

PandemicAtTheDisco · 20/01/2021 15:56

@optimisticpessimist01
I wear the maximum absorbency pants and maximum absorbency pads together on my heaviest days. I've found this to be enough when my flow is heaviest.

The less absorbent pants aren't as bulky and I use them on lighter days or on heavier days with pads but need to change them more frequently. The design I use are called 'Feeling Fearless' and they really do seem to give reassurance and make me feel more free to leave the house. They go up to size 24 and are £16 from Cheeky wipes. I don't like how they look at the sides but they are very comfy and work.

I would recommend trying a pair of maximum absorbency and would size down rather than up. My friend uses a low absorbency pair solely as a back up to her disposable pads.

bettydaviseyes1 · 20/01/2021 16:14

@queenofSI

Does it bother you that I conceal tampons in my hand? Not pretending women dont have periods, just prefer people not to see me with a tampon in my hand :)

I'm not embarrassed or ashamed, my bodily functions are no ones business but my own! Each to their own

Gooseygoosey12345 · 20/01/2021 17:31

I looked at these but they seem so expensive. Maybe I'm just tight Grin I think they're a brilliant idea though, along with the reusable pads. I may have to invest! Any advice for a newbie?

Whatwouldscullydo · 20/01/2021 17:50

Check out earthwise girls goosey

They do a "favourites bundle" with 2 or three different brands to try. I recommend honor your flow and TCS eco, but they are expensive so id go for a favourites bundle or tbe basic earthwise starter kit to see of you get on with with concept and then if you do, you can spend out on them. Honor your flow have a happy hour 8-9 on a Sunday evening.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 20/01/2021 18:29

@Whatwouldscullydo that's great! Thank you Grin
