To tell you how much I love my period pants!

Been using them for a few months now and cant believe it took me this long! It's literally just you pull on your underwear and you're done. I don't even know why you'd bother faffing around with mooncups etc when this exists, let alone pads.

I will admit that if I have an event or something I would still use tampons just because I've been using those for so long I have confidence in them whereas I still need to get used to the underwear. But for day to day use I absolutely love these, they almost make me forget I have my period

Any other converts?

I love mine too. Not used them for a heavy day but I use them for cup back up or the tail end.

I have modibodi and a couple of wuka pairs..love them both.

With regards to reduced pain, I used to feel realky itchy/crappy/sore with disposable pads and tampons. So didn't really notice the cramps. Now that's gone I do. But there's a specific kinda draggy pain I used to get with tampons that I don't get with a cup.

I unfortunately came to it all to late amd too old to reap the financial benefits.

But I'm so glad I switched out to these options. No longer do I dread my period. No longer longer to I get the itching/rash /cuts.

Nix2020 · 17/01/2021 20:34

I love mine. I use cheeky wipes. They hold more than a pad. I swear my periods have gotten shorter since using them. That's been almost 2 years I've had mine

I do a boot camp with mine and they are so comfortable. When I'm out the house I tend to use a reusable pad with them, gives more protection less hassle changing.

Catcrazy008 · 17/01/2021 20:35

I have never used period knickers or a moon cup. What are the pros and cons of each please? Do the knickers smell, like you can get with a pad? How do you wash? Do they need to be soaked or washed on their own?

Maryann1975 · 17/01/2021 20:36

I wasn’t sure about them, but when dd got her period she kept leaking overnight, so I bought her some of the cheeky wipe pants. She tried them with no pad and leaked, so wears them with a pad now as a back up and is fine with that.

I bought some at the end of last year and didn’t need to wear a pad at all. I changed them every 12 hours and They caught everything. I could notice a bit of a smell Towards the end of the 12 hours though, so if I was out and about, I might have worried about this, but as it was just me at home, I didn’t see too much of an issue. If I worked out of the home, I’d probably wear a pad in the morning, take it off at lunch time and then be confident in the pants.
When dd2 starts, I will be investing in some for her too. So much better than leaking all over the bed sheets.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/01/2021 20:46

I prefer reusable pads as back up during the day, so much easier to change.

JazzyGeoff · 17/01/2021 20:46

I haven't had a period since my ablation eight years ago, but prior to that, periods made my life miserable as fecking sin.

I just about managed with a mooncup and pads for the last few years, but pants like these would have been a godsend! I'm so glad they're available now.

newtb · 17/01/2021 20:53

No longer need them, but don't think they'd have worked for me. I have horrid memories of using super plus Lillets at the age of 14 and waking up at 4 in the morning needing to change having leaked. I was always terrified of looking at the sheets in case I'd stained them, my dm would have had a fit. From even before I was 14 I always passed huge clots and continued to do so, even when on the pill.

Goldieloxx · 17/01/2021 20:58

Yep love them, esp for sleeping in

LizFlowers · 17/01/2021 20:59

@Indecisive12

Do they not smell after 12 hours?
I don't know about 12 hours but people who work around those who use period pants say they really do smell.
Reastie · 17/01/2021 20:59

How do you wash them? The modi bodi site says rinse in cold water then cold wash in delicates bag, which sounds annoying as everything we wash is at 40 so I’d have to do a special wash

PoochiePlush · 17/01/2021 21:01

@IHateCoronavirus

Watching with interest. Since having DC I have to double up on super plus tampons and night time towels. Even then on day one and two, I’m changing every hour or so.
I am the same as you but I have also converted to period pants.

I have bought the "extra heavy/overnight" ones and use them during the day and change them every hour, but I never leak, which I often did with tampons plus pads. During the night, I use an ultra lillet (tampons for extra heavy flow) plus the pants. On days 4-6 I can use a pair and change every 6-8 hours like the OP.

Ita a game changer. I still have extremely heavy days on days 1-3) and there's no getting away from the fact. But it's much more manageable and on days 4-6 I literally forget I have my period.

Oysterbabe · 17/01/2021 21:03

I found that they do smell. It was one of the reasons I gave up on them, the other one being all the washing.

PoochiePlush · 17/01/2021 21:03

@IHateCoronavirus

To those of you reporting better pain relief what do you think is relieving the normal level of pain?
I have also had less pain and discomfort. Sorry for the TMI here but for me, on days 1-3 my periods are so heavy that I pass massive clots. And if these if these are blocked with a stopper (tampons or moon cup) then I get pain in my stomach.

Because the pants allow "free flow
" - i no longer have pain.

iMatter · 17/01/2021 21:04

I'd love to try these but I have period carnage every month.

Massive clots, huge rushes of blood, I have to change my super plus every 90 mins/2 hours and wear a pad too on my worst days.

doadeer · 17/01/2021 21:04

I love my modi body ones. I have 3 pairs. I used to have terrible periods but now really light on contraceptive injection. I have a mooncup too I'd use that if they were heavier.

You get different absorbencies, I just get the light ones but they have a whole range

5zeds · 17/01/2021 21:04

people who work around those who use period pants say they really do smell. how do they know they aren’t surrounded by people wearing them without smelling? Confused

I’m intensely lazy so I just shove all the dirty ones in my washing machine on a cold fifteen minute wash in the evening and then wash them with my usual washing when I do the next load. They are SO much more comfortable and less faff.

Probably wrong I wash them in the machine as normal.

There's no smell from mine, I'm very sensitive to smell. If there was I would obviously change more frequently.

OrangePlumGrape · 17/01/2021 21:07

I love them too, sleep in them, run in them, no hassle at all. I’m wfh at the moment and not sure if I’d wear them to work and probably wouldn’t on a night out either because they’re actual big pants and I usually prefer something smaller.

Whatwouldscullydo · 17/01/2021 21:09

I just stick mine in a wash bag and wash with no fabric softener ( vinegar instead) but i wash all my clothes at 30 so just shove them in.

I dont notice any smell. I find reusable products really don't smell like their disposable counterparts

PoochiePlush · 17/01/2021 21:10

I am exactly the same. I have 8 pairs of the heavy/overnight ones. And I change them every 1-2 hours on the first 3 days. So there IS a lot of washing. But I feel so much better as there is no more pain, and I don't have to manage disposables (I never got on with a noon cup). And on days 3-6 I literally forget I have my period.

I have never leaked as often the tampon would overflow and so would the pad. This hasnt happened with the pants.

I do use two tampons overnight for the first 3 nights. One when I go to bed and then I wake up as it's full and change to a new tampon but keep saying pants until the morning. I've never leaked in the bed since using the pants.

PlanDeRaccordement · 17/01/2021 21:12

I just don’t think it would feel very comfortable. I like my downstairs to have plenty of ventilation. And I think that period pants, being waterproof, would just make that whole area feel very humid and not fresh.

I call nonsense on that as well.

I don't like the thinx one I got, it makes me feel a bit hot and I did notice a smell (at the end of the day, only worn near the end of my period) but it's not a period smell. It's more like musty clothes that haven't been dried properly, I dry it on a heated rack so I doubt its not dried properly.

iMatter · 17/01/2021 21:12

Thank you @PoochiePlush - that's really helpful Smile

nbee84 · 17/01/2021 21:14

I work as a nanny and the oldest girl has special needs. She started her periods just over a year ago and we use the modi body teenage pants. We went for these as she would require support to use sanitary towels, she would not be able to change them herself. She can use the toilet independently though cannot wipe herself, so unless she has done a poo she won't let anyone wipe, just wees then pulls up her knickers. The period pants mean she can have a bit more privacy and dignity using the toilet.
If at home she would have a pair 1st thing and then changed at lunchtime - she wears pull ups to bed. If at school a pair 1st thing then changed at 3.30 when she gets home.
I have quite a heightened sense of smell and do find that there is a definite smell to them, stronger the longer they are on. So worse on school days. This may be down to the fact that she doesn't wipe.
We have some patterned ones as well as black - I'd definitely advise sticking to black as if you do happen to leak around the leg line they do stain.
You rinse them in cold water and can pop them in the machine on a cool wash with no fabric conditioner. Not my favourite job but a pair of rubber gloves and a washing up bowl designated for dealing with them. As someone mentioned getting them dry is easier in the winter when you can put them on the radiator as they don't advise tumble drying them.

IMissFrance · 17/01/2021 21:19

Yessss!

I treated myself after Christmas.

Only had one period since. But the overnight pair are an absolute game changer.
