To tell you how much I love my period pants!

Been using them for a few months now and cant believe it took me this long! It's literally just you pull on your underwear and you're done. I don't even know why you'd bother faffing around with mooncups etc when this exists, let alone pads.

I will admit that if I have an event or something I would still use tampons just because I've been using those for so long I have confidence in them whereas I still need to get used to the underwear. But for day to day use I absolutely love these, they almost make me forget I have my period

Any other converts?

The only thing is you have to buy a few pairs to keep on top of the washing/drying. I have 4 pairs but could do with another couple. It’s not so bad in winter when I can dry them on the radiator.

CutToChase · 17/01/2021 19:30

@Kljnmw3459
Yes I also love how they solve the "unpredictability" factor. I track my cycle but obviously you never know... So two days before the app says I'm due on I wear them.

It feels good in the sense of theres nothing "inside" me. And unlike pads, theres no rubbing up against your privates or "nappy like" feel. Without wanting to sound like a hippie...you just kind of let loose 🤷‍♀️

Another slightly hippieish thing: I get a strange satisfaction when I wring them out. Maybe the same thing happens with a mooncup (never tried these, too squeamish) but it's like its visible and you acknowledge it. I cant really explain!

@Ursulasunderstudy

I have some Thinx pairs and am not the biggest fan. I find you have to change them with every toilet trip because when you pull them back on, where they’re damp (and they are damp) it’s cold and really uncomfortable. I also have a very heavy flow and if I’ve flooded they can’t absorb very well so when you pull them down it frequently flicks blood everywhere. Maybe if you have a light/medium flow they work better. I now use mine overnight with a tampon and pad to save my bedsheets!
My Modibodi pants are definitely not damp, ever! Sounds like Thinx is not a good brand.
Calyx72 · 17/01/2021 19:31

I use mooncups (well other makes which are better for my shape inside than the actual mooncup was) and this year I bought period pants because they were half price. Wow! All brilliant. For wearing on their own when light or just spotting, to with the cup on normal or heavy days. I love love love them. Periods are now completely no stress.

Only have an occasional cramp on day 1 now. Used to have cramps for most of the period. Definitely changed when I switched from tampons to cups.

Ratbagratty · 17/01/2021 19:32

I use the pants and reusable pads from cheeky wipes, which I know isn't popular in here but they had a deal at the time! I gave really really heavy periods, they roughly last 3-5 days with the first 2 days. Before these I used to have to double pad and change every hour and I still leaked. With these I use a plant and a maternity style reusable pads and I don't have to change so often, maybe 4 good but trust me that's an improvement that I can actually go to work when I'm on now.

Top tips:

Rinse in cold water, if this feels a bit icky just find a waterproof tin and put them in to soak with child water until wash time.

Get the ones with the bamboo or darker liner, they just feel and appear much cleaner and fresher.

littlepeas · 17/01/2021 19:32

I also absolutely love mine and have almost entirely stopped using tampons (just occasionally under similar circumstances as described by the OP). My 11 year old dd has just started her period and I am so thrilled for her that she has these to use from day 1 - she can just wear them all day at school, so much easier than it was for me at the same age.

We use modibodi. They are unbelievable really, a bit of a breakthrough (can’t believe no one thought of it before).

Curioushorse · 17/01/2021 19:32

I agree they’re life changing. Honestly. They were hideously expensive to start off with, but I’ve now had them long enough that I’m saving money over what I’d have spent on pads and tampons.

AllTheChocolateNow · 17/01/2021 19:33

I’m thinking of getting these for teen DD to try. My flow is really heavy, so not sure They're for me.

I do really like the idea of not feeling a tampon inside or the nappy like chafing of a pad (I have to wear both at the same time and by day three of my period I can be really uncomfortable and a bit sore).

Madcats · 17/01/2021 19:33

DD(13) has the teen Modibodis.
I think she sometimes starts off with a pad in them if she knows she will have a heavier flow at school (as it is a faff removing tights to change pants in a school loo). She had a 5 pair pack and we also have some cheap Amazon period pants that definitely need tampons or pads as they are just a waterproof(?) lining in the gusset. I think I saw a brand that now fastens at the sides, but I'll investigate those when she has broadened out more.

It is a game changer (think we are about 18 months in washing once or twice a month).

They also do/did running shorts and leggings for those wondering about using them for sport.

HereBeFuckery · 17/01/2021 19:33

Just popping in to warn that I had three pairs of Love Luna (Sainsbury's brand) pants, all of which are now in the bin as the stitching came apart so the pad part was loose. Sainsbury's uninterested and claimed 'wear and tear' and cited the 'no returns on underwear' when I emailed. Bit of a false economy! Each pair was worn and washed twice (no fabric softener, rinsed in cold water and then gentle machine wash).

CutToChase · 17/01/2021 19:36

Since there ARE converts on here I have a question: do any of you have non black ones?

The brand I use does some gorgeous colours and patterns but I only have black. Do the non black ones stain? Obviously on the inside I'm guessing yes, but what about the outside?

OP posts:
NameChange84 · 17/01/2021 19:40

My cheeky wipes aren’t great at all.

I have an extremely heavy flow and couldn’t wear them without pads. I still leak through the sides and was finding I was getting “back flow” so instead of getting fully absorbed the bloody was running down the insides of my legs Sad. So embarrassing. Early on I ruined the sofa which never happened with pads. Also I can pass large clots (size of a 50p) and they just “sit there”.

I’d agree I’d feel disgusting leaving them on for 12 hours etc. Mine wouldn’t even hold up an hour but if I was lighter I’d still much prefer to change a pad and freshen up rather than sit in bloody underwear all day. Just cos you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there.

CutToChase · 17/01/2021 19:40

I think this is the sort of thing you have to rellt invest in and dont go cheap.

Agree with PP, I have four pairs and it's not enough. You probably want 6 pairs to not be thinking about laundry, but you can start with one pair just to try.

Oysterbabe · 17/01/2021 19:42

I bought 4 pairs of Modibody and I was fairly happy with them to start with but Tbh I got fed up of all the washing. I hand washed them at the end of each day and then stuck them in the machine at the end of my period. It's a lot of faffing. I found they did start to smell a bit after a while too. I switched to a mooncup and never looked back. In terms of effort involved they can't be compared. Giving a rubber a cup a quick wash is 1000% times easier than washing endless pairs of pants.

TDMN · 17/01/2021 19:42

Oh my god yes! I am also converted to Modibodi and honestly think the peoe who invented them deserve a medal.
To answer some questions:

  • They have different thickness/length gusset for different flows, but even the thickest isnt as thick or bulky as an overnight pad. The gusset is made up of different layers if you read their website, the standard underwear is in super soft material.
  • Nope, no smell unless you wanna try and make one pair go for 24hr.
  • No 'wet' feeling, it gets wicked away really well, however as a disclaimer i have never experienced flooding, i have a medium flow. The most i've ever done is when ive gone to the loo spotted a teeny bit of moisture and wiped it away with some TP.
I also find them hugely less messy than pads in general, like im not having to clean myself up when i go to the loo when with a pad i would.
NameChange84 · 17/01/2021 19:44

I shelled out just under £50 for 3 pairs. I don’t consider that especially cheap Confused.

Mmn654123 · 17/01/2021 19:47

@QuestionableMouse

I'm fat of arse and most don't come in my size.
I am also large of arse and modibodi do sizes that fit!
Mummysgonetobed · 17/01/2021 19:50

Yep I converted about 9 months ago and never looked back! Used to get thrush with every period using other san pro but the pants are amazing. In fact I ordered another couple of pairs today.
I’ve quite a heavy flow and change just once in the evening, I’ve never leaked. Amazing things. I’ve also convinced a couple of friends to change.

TDMN · 17/01/2021 19:52

Oh and on the notes of different brands - i did a LOT of research before buying my modibodis and people who've tried multiple brands generally report modibodi as the best, it seems like a 'you get what you pay for' scenario. Totally understand the comments upthread about people feeling they would feel a bit gross wearing them all day, its totally personal preference on that, but ive been genuinely shocked at how they just kind of make it... disappear.

IHateCoronavirus · 17/01/2021 19:54

How do they handle clots?

Calyx72 · 17/01/2021 19:56

I only bought black, box of 5. Got some fir my sister who also loves them.

Tidypidy · 17/01/2021 19:57

My dd and I converted to Cheeky wipes reusable pads and period pants about 6 months ago. She's a size 8, I'm an 18 and we both get on well with them. On my heaviest days I use a pad and the pants so have pad from waking to lunch, change it then often remove it at dinner time and just rely on the pants. Dd likes the sporty fit whereas I like the high waisted ones as they feel more secure. A big bonus for me is no irritation from scented pads. Also far fewer cramps which I used to have with tampons. We bought several pairs each as they had a deal, then another set a couple of months later so now have about 8 pairs each. No presoaking or rinsing just straight in the machine. Don't use fabric conditioner!

formerbabe · 17/01/2021 19:58

@NameChange84

My periods currently cost me less than £1 a month...so I can't see how this would be any cheaper even long term.
TheUndoingProject · 17/01/2021 19:59

I’m not a huge fan. Changing them is such a faff. Obviously it’s less of an issue if you’re working at home, but stripping off in a public loo and having to carry soaked knickers around in a little plastic bag in my handbag felt inconvenient.

I used modibodi and found they felt more wet than disposable pads do. You do also need many pairs to get through one period, so the up front cost is really high.

firstimemamma · 17/01/2021 20:00

Yanbu I love mine too!
