Dad had a heart attack on Friday night, heart was not beating on and off for 2 and a half hours :( he had surgery but brain damage is bad and meds are no longer keeping him alive. Because of covid and having 3 kids I wasn't sure I'd be able to get to see him. I'm now on my way hoping I make it in time, we're weren't allowed in the hospital until we had the call. I just wish I'd come earlier but I don't drive and knew I'd be frozen just waiting outside. Also was told it could be hours days or weeks. I'm so angry at myself and just hope I make it in time. He was only 66 and healthy. Hand hold please lovely mumneters this train really isn't moving fast enough Blush

Thinking of you...

A nurse told me that often people "choose" to die alone, waiting for their family who have been by their bedside to leave before quietly slipping away. My dad did this

This happened with my mum.. My sister, brother and I took turns sitting at her side virtually 24/7 when she seemed strong we took an evening off and as I was driving up on the morning she passed away without any of us by her side. Likewise I was told not to rush up to see my dad and whilst I was driving up he passed away.. Sadly I knew it because my sister phoned to ask how far away I was..

Such a young age to pass away... Hugs xx

Hope you make it @africanantelope and get to see your Dad - I never got to see my Dad before he slipped into a coma. And Mum was also in a coma before they turned off life support although we had seen her previously in the hospital.
xx

I hope you made, for your sake 💐 Either way, your Dad knows how you feel about him xxx

My Dad died of a sudden massive heart attack when he was 65, and seemingly fit & healthy too it's such a shock.
Take care of yourself xx💐

This was told to me too by my mother's lovely GP who visited her in hospital towards the end, when I had been there all hours that I could. She took me aside and said I was not to worry if, when I pop out briefly to go to the loo or get a cup of coffee, etc. I found when I got back that she had slipped away. That did not happen, but apparently it often does - some people for whatever reason find it easier to go when loved ones are not present.

Hoping you and your Dad are alright OP and that his passing is peaceful. Sending you both loving thoughts. Flowers

Thinking of you and hoping that you get there in time.

If you don't then please don't be hard on yourself.

I’m a nurse and seen it loads. Even down to the relative sitting there for hours and nipping out of the room for a wee.

Just try to get there safely OP Flowers

caringcarer · 17/01/2021 19:03

Phone a taxi ahead so you jump off train and into taxi Hope you make it in time. Hearing is the last sense to go so even if he seems out of it he may still hear your voice. Tell him what you need to.
