Neighbour won’t give me my parcel

Cheeseboardandmincepies · 13/01/2021 11:25

I ordered some things from a friend who accidentally sent my parcel to the wrong address (she put 1 in front of my actual number).
I know the neighbour has it as it’s been signed for on Hermes, I’ve knocked and knocked and I know they’re in but they won’t answer the door to me so I can’t get my parcel.
I can’t ask the seller as they have personal things going on and a very poorly DC so it’s not fair to put this on them. Anyone know where I stand please other than mailing them an envelope full of glitter? It was a lot of money and I’m very pissed off!

@EmmaWithTheGreatHair could it be called Herpes? Just a small step away from Hermes?

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 14/01/2021 14:43

@Bookworming absolutely Grin

I think that probably comes under "theft by finding". So if they make it impossible for you to get your property back, you'll have to go to the police.

CrimsonCattery · 14/01/2021 14:52

It is theft. Due to your name on the package and knowing they didn't order it (and wrong postcode?) they are aware the package isn't theirs.

Police if they continue to ignore you. I would also be knocking on the window and saying I could see them.

starfishmummy · 14/01/2021 14:53

More like - Hermes attempted delivery of a parcel to their address with someone else’s name on, which they accepted and signed for and now won’t answer the door to OP. They could have declined the parcel, it’s easily done.

At the moment, where I live, Hermes are playing dump the parcel, ring the bell and run away. They delivered here this week and the delivery person wasn't even hovering on the pavement. No opportunity to decline if it had been wrong

StargazerAli · 14/01/2021 14:58

I'd write this one off now I think. I bet whatever you ordered is now unpacked an being used/eaten/drank/worn. You can either get angry and send a note or even contact a solicitor, but is it really worth it? They know you're aware they have it but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I'd be furious and, determined by how friendly you are with them (not much by the sound of it?), I'd have to let them know, but it's up to you how far to take it.

Norwayreally · 14/01/2021 15:01

If you see them popping out of the house then corner them and ask for the parcel.

Staffy1 · 14/01/2021 15:28

Any update OP? Did you hear back after dropping the note in?

MissMarpleDarling · 14/01/2021 15:39

Surely the seller will have to refund you, you said you gave your right address and they put it wrong on the parcel.

OP refuses to contact the Seller (her friend no less) as she is stressed....

I'd be asking for my money back fir the Seller putting the wrong door number in the address 🙄

Cheeseboardandmincepies · 14/01/2021 16:23

Wasn’t expecting this many replies. I got the parcel after being asked to show my drivers licence and a form of address even though they came to my house to drop said parcel off. Was very bizarre but I did get it.

Sorry to dissapoint that I didn’t do a Phil Collins outside their house. 😂

Hurrah! This thread had become very long and some of the suggestions were bizarre.

Glad you’ve got it now.

And no need for the Police or threats on social media etc etc....just a bit of communication. Fantastic.

SaltyTootsieToes · 14/01/2021 16:29

Great news that you received your package.

IntermittentParps · 14/01/2021 16:32

Yay OP!
But boo about Sorry to dissapoint that I didn’t do a Phil Collins outside their house.

SquirtleSquad · 14/01/2021 16:37

They asked for proof that you lived at the address where they dropped it off to?! Assuming you were inside the house and not hiding in the bushes outside that's hilarious Grin

Yay what a fab result. I wonder why they suddenly decided to come over to deliver it and yet ignored you when you came to theres.

I'm very sad to read there was no Phil Collins rendition. Grin

Bookworming · 14/01/2021 16:50

Excellent result!

Yes, but the point is that the address on the parcel was wrong, so any random neighbour could have asked for the parcel when it wasn't theirs.

So they needed to see ID to make sure the name matched, and then proof of address to make sure it matched the name on the ID (it could be a common name, but even if not, it's harder to fake two pieces of evidence than one).

Hawkins001 · 14/01/2021 17:13

What about wearing a orange hi Vis so it looks like your a delivery person and hope they answer

Katsuwonus · 14/01/2021 17:23

Call the police.

Leedsfan247 · 14/01/2021 17:25

Wouldn’t trust anything Hermes say in my experience

UpShutTheFuck · 14/01/2021 17:25

@Katsuwonus

Call the police.
Why?

She has her parcel.

Lotsofwishes · 14/01/2021 17:26

My father is disabled and although through a window he may look physical ‘well’, he isn’t. He would wave and smile at you but he would not answer the door.

To all those that replied - Please please please stop encouraging people to just stand and continue banging... if someone did this to my father he would become extremely upset that he couldn’t get there to answer is and it could cause him to fit.
I know this is not the case in all situations but please be mindful!
