Neighbour won’t give me my parcel

Cheeseboardandmincepies · 13/01/2021 11:25

I ordered some things from a friend who accidentally sent my parcel to the wrong address (she put 1 in front of my actual number).
I know the neighbour has it as it’s been signed for on Hermes, I’ve knocked and knocked and I know they’re in but they won’t answer the door to me so I can’t get my parcel.
I can’t ask the seller as they have personal things going on and a very poorly DC so it’s not fair to put this on them. Anyone know where I stand please other than mailing them an envelope full of glitter? It was a lot of money and I’m very pissed off!

I am absolutely flabbergasted that the put on a hi-vis jacket and rock up with another cardboard box and pretend to be a delivery driver didn't get more attention. Best suggestion on this thread by Miles. Hilarious

Pixxie7 · 13/01/2021 18:52

If it was delivered to the right address they might not realise the situation so yes a note through the door seems reasonable however not sure where you stand legally.

Pinkyandthebrainz · 13/01/2021 18:59

I'd harass them. Ignorant prices.

Pinkyandthebrainz · 13/01/2021 18:59

Pricks*

Penistoe · 13/01/2021 19:16

Do you know anyone who could make a fake parcel and pretend to be a delivery driver, as soon as they answer the door pounce.

sadcatdiary · 13/01/2021 19:47

@Bookworming

Perform a 15 minute Phil Collins drum solo on their window, that should sort 'em right out.

In full gorilla costume or not?

At least OP would be fully masked up under those circumstances.
AnneElliott · 13/01/2021 19:47

I would make this a police matter. It is clearly theft. I'd make that clear in the note and then yes report it as a theft.

Hankunamatata · 13/01/2021 19:51

Keep trying but the onus is on the seller. They put wrong address on the parcel.

Crayfishforyou · 13/01/2021 19:52

Glitter bomb

sparticuscaticus · 13/01/2021 20:02

You paid for goods
You can show your receipt
It was addressed to your name

The seller has legal liability here so you need to contact them

But also, I'd be getting CAB advice as potentially as the neighbours took in parcel not addressed to them and won't return it, it may be a police 101 issue or a small claims court if they did sign for it. (Meh Hermes fake signature all the time - loads of times I've had "delivered to resident Spartacus" with a squiggle pretending to be mine (pre Covid) notifications when I've been at work and certainly didnt take delivery and didn't sign! They are shitty really. Hope you photo's the note you dropped through.

sparticuscaticus · 13/01/2021 20:04

Because if neighbours kept a parcel paid for by you addressed in your name even if a mistake, then it is theft, as you've tried to explain

But you MUST contact seller

MrsRagnarLothbrok · 13/01/2021 21:56

please do this

Agreed

JazzyGeoff · 13/01/2021 22:08

I hope you manage to get your parcel but I will admit I'm reserving a tiny bit of hope that it's a genuine error on behalf of your neighbours.

I once opened the door to someone who was searching for a Yodel (I think) delivery- the scanned picture on the website looked to be my door. Of course I knew that I hadn't signed or accepted any parcels, but I concurred that it did indeed look like my house. Knowing that couriers sometimes left deliveries in a box at the back of my house, we went and had a look. Lo and behold, one parcel sitting there.

StoneofDestiny · 13/01/2021 22:13

Wow - what's your normal relationship with these neighbours?

Lostinthemail · 14/01/2021 07:01

@StoneofDestiny

Wow - what's your normal relationship with these neighbours?
I presume there isn’t- do you have a good relationship with the people that live on your number +100? I have absolutely no clue who lives there. I don’t even consider them neighbours to be honest, just people living in the same street.
IntermittentParps · 14/01/2021 09:28

If I received a box full of randomness, addressed to my house but a name I hadn’t heard of, it would go in the bin. I don’t have enough spare time to start playing detective about why I’ve been sent unsolicited nonsense.
Christ, I'm glad some of you aren't my neighbour! How unpleasant. I wouldn't dream of binning something in this scenario. And the neighbour doesn't need to 'start playing detective' Hmm; they just need to answer the fucking door, at which point the OP will do their detecting job for them by saying, 'Sorry to disturb you but a parcel for me was sent here by mistake.'

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 14/01/2021 09:30

Your contract is with the seller so they need to rectify it. The seller is the one who has the contract with Hermes to deliver so they need to contact them.

They cannot be "that" unable if they managed to wrap it up, sort a delivery and then post it can they?

PrankedByLife · 14/01/2021 10:45

My question wasn't to the OP it was to the iPad lady - she will know as I replied to her post

PrankedByLife · 14/01/2021 10:47

17:57fucknuckle
Did you get a refund?

wowfudge · 14/01/2021 10:49

@RickiTarr

“Signed for” during the pandemic means “photographed on the doorstep”.
"Handed to resident" means dumped anywhere on the property with no attempt to knock on the door or ring the bell.
fucknuckle · 14/01/2021 12:52

@PrankedByLife no, because the parcel had been delivered and signed for. short of calling my neighbour a liar to her face (and i have to live next door to her so can do without the fallout from that) i was a bit stumped.

it was a pet product, she has a new pet. i just had to write it off. what could i do, realistically, that wouldn’t cause unpleasantness? i am a wuss, i know, but i don’t do confrontation.

GlobeUs · 14/01/2021 12:58

Handed to resident here means we've put it in the dustbin which is on the kerb waiting for collection 5 minutes before the refuse truck comes...

YesMeLady · 14/01/2021 13:02

Can the person who sent it drop them a note saying it was sent by mistake, it's their fault it went to the wrong address.

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 14/01/2021 13:40

I also think that the poster (sorry can’t remember who) who suggested OP dons a high vis vest and takes a parcel to the door, should be getting more attention! On the high vis vest the OP should stencil the name of her delivery company, what could this be? Deliverytocheekytwats.com, on the box the address should read:-

Mr & Mrs Cheeky Twat
1 Where the fuck Avenue
Is My
Parcel
TW12 4AT

Grin Sorry
